No race for me this week.  I have a sprint du (2mi-15mi-2mi) in about three weeks.  First tri is St Patty's in mid March - not sure I will get in another before LS (Hawaii is out for me...) - maybe if there is an olympic around close by- I'll have to check Tri-Find....

Anyway on the training front:  Did a 1000TT today - 18:54 - that is an improvement since Dec 6 of 2:10!  Pace was comfortably below 2:00/100 at 1:53.  Consistency in the pool and drills are paying off!

Andy that is Stellar!!! I'm going to get on your toes at LS!

You might want to rethink that, I have a history of bad OW navigation....  apparently I am continually drawn into some giant swirling vortex tha pulls me to the right

Gotcha...Maybe you and John can practice on Saturday. You know, just to make sure that you are comfortable getting a 'big guy' to strip you.

I downloaded my training plan for my May 8 HIM.  Amazing how having a plan in front of you gives you a little added motivation.  My plan was to wait till after my trip to seriously get on my HIM training.  After looking at my plan, I am already about 3 weeks late starting it.

I actually took a plan from tri-newbies.com which was an 18 week program.  So, I guess the moral of the story is when you look at the work that needs to be done in black and white, it can put a sense of urgency on the situation.

Thanks Barry -but I'm cool with the Courtyard 5 miles up the road.  It's cheaper.

With all this stripper talk I'd like to pool the MG's preference:   I'm going to volunteer for IMCA this summer and I'm wondering what would be the best type of duty.  I'd prefer something with either the swim or the bike so I'm not out there all night when I have to get up early to register.    There is a group of us (maybe I can talk Steve and Ryan into the group as well) so that could make for a fun bike aide station.  I was also thinking of wetsuit stripper.  What would you guys like to do?  Suzy you worked a bike aide station correct?

bike catcher, chute, or helping people out of the water.  i understand, maybe wrong, that strippers get a lot of pi$$ on them.

also i think KathyG had a thread on this.  i just searched but didn't find it.  and when did article search show up/  nice addition.

I volunteered this year at a 70.3 and was a run marshall...Wasn't alot of fun. Standing around for along time pointing people in a direction. I know a guy who was a catcher at the finish line this year at IMCA and said it was really a neat experience. I believe it's done in shifts so you aren't necessarily out there all day/night....

f.y.i....one of the girls michelle teaches with has a place right in penticton. We were at a function with them on the weekend, and we got talking. Shes knows I 'do those things.' She invited us out there this year to stay and watch. Not sure if they are going to be there or not, but I'm going to definitely remind michelle to remind her about it through the rest of the school year so she doesn't forget that we're going to stay there. If they arent going to be there..maybe a SWBKRUN party!!!

Did my swim workout this morning and worked on flip turns for the first time during the cool down.  Have some work to do, but I did get over the fear of water up my nose and of looking weird working on them while others are swimming around me, including a water aerobics class in the next two lanes.

One lesson learned is that a flip turn is not a full somersault....I kept flipping and coming up facing the wrong direction. Hand/arm position seem to be key, keeping them down my side as I start the turn.  I didn't bump my head on the bottom this time around, but I am sure that will happen at some point.....

Anyway, a minor milestone, but a milestone for sure. Smile

Hi Tracy,

The last time Birdy and I went up there to sign up for 08, we both volunteered at the 9:00-midnight finish line, and we had a blast. Every single athlete you catch is your new best friend: you'll get invited to grab some drinks afterward, take pictures with the family, enjoy pizza together while they recover and recount their entire race to you, etc. There was one interesting guy who just wanted a soft spot to lie down and close his eyes. We chatted with him to make sure he was coherent, and he seemed okay, just tired... but then after ten minutes or so, *click*, like a light switch, his eyes rolled back and it was off to the medical tent for him.

So yes, we're heading up to volunteer and sign up, but we haven't worked out all the details yet.

Hey Tracy--I did 6 hours on the run course and loved it.  It was hard work because we had athletes coming and going, but it was a blast.  Next time I volunteer I would go for catching....late in the evening.  Personally I would avoid stripping like the plague.  Two of my friends did it and were full of so much water, seaweed and pee smell it was gross.  They walked into a party we were attending and immediately hit the showers.

Off to the airporto....

No racing for me.  I'll be stuck inside on a two hour trainer tomorrow while Trina's ice blows my way.   Just need to figure out what movie I want to download.

Good Luck on the adventure race! I've always wanted to do one but I can barely find my way out of a paperbag.    Good Luck!

fwiw, i've done both.

Carry them the same as you do with your wet suit. We had strippers at the Muskoka HIM last Sept. They just rip the suit off and give it back to you.

Suzy, are you being a slacker?  Put a few drinks in your hand and you forget all about us.  ;-)

No racing plans for me this weekend - just a bunch of indoor trainer rides since it is going to be butt a$s cold here.  Thanks Trevor for sending your freakin' frigid Canadian air our way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey now, thats Rob's air not mine. Mine is over Steve and Roni!!!

I was trying to get sent home for brining the cold air into Toronto. I was more than willing to take it back to Guelph with me. Boss didn't buy it.

At least WE are not full of hot air.

Glenn-- I don't know how you are doing your turns but you might try pushing off the wall on your back after the flip...(swim in freestyle come off the wall doing backstroke). You might already be doing this..if not give it a try.  Once you have that down it is easy to learn to rotate onto your stomach afte you leave the wall.

fwiw, i've done both.

Up here(at least the ones i did this year), we had to pull the suit down to our waist(ish)....So really irrelevant what we did with goggles on head or in hand. But I imagine if it was a full strip, I'd keep the goggles on the head, let them pull the suit off, and then run to T1 with the suit and goggles in hand.

yeah for the fastest time i think you always want to do this.  but again, does goggles and cap in hand hamper this.   i know it sounds stupid right now sitting at a desk, but afer a nice 1.2 mile swim and adrenaline ramped up,  things are different.  lots of time to be wasted here.

you mean after 1.9 km swim? Tongue out I don't know how far the run/walk is from the bay to T1 is... but I imagine I'll get out of the water and thank Andy for his toes, high five him, pull up the goggles to run to the strippers, Undo the zipper and see what I can do before getting to the strippers. If I can't pull the zipper/sleeves off, then I'll let the strippers have their way with me, keeping the goggles on the head.

an aside....Am I the only immature one that giggles to himself when he types about 'strippers having their way with me?'

Not at all, I giggle every time we talk about strippers...

I guess I dont' put that much thought into it, get out of water, blindly reach back and try to find the string and pull zipper down, pull wetsuit down to waist and when I get to strippers flop down on my back and hold my feet up.

Also make sure I pick one of the big guys, make eye contact or point at him so he knows I need him to pull the suit off.

OK  We're still talking about triathlons here right ( giggle giggle)

OK I pulled the trigger and signed up for four races this morning. An almost Olympic June 8, an Olympic June 20 a long sprint in July and a sprint in Sept. I'm going to have to find something for Aug. now.  There doesn't seemd to be a whole lot of Olympic races around this part of the country.
