SSMinnow - 2009-06-23 9:46 AM People, as you might remember hearing, Tony has a new running coach.  Lowell probably has him out doing 20 hill repeats or a track test!  Either that or he might actually be working!

Barry--nearly passed out on my run today too.  It is 85F RF here in WI and we don't do well with humidity.  A lousy 8m run and I lost 1.6lbs.  Good for the waistline, but really lousy for performance.  Hope you hydrated well.  Once I got home, I slammed my 8oz of chocolate/white milk, followed by 3G of Glutamine and a 16oz of water. Think I am as good as new!

Suzy

I always hear you and others talk about chocolate milk as a recovery drink.  Does the chocolate help, or just make it taste good?  And 85 degrees?  You don't really sweat at 85 do you?

Tony is onthe left side on the Orange line probably at East Falls Church or closer in. Takoma is shown on the Red line to the top (or 12 o'clock if you look at it like a clock). that is what I was refering to. Thanks for posting the metro map.

BTW the map is an abstract to help people get around but if you saw them on a geographically accurate map the lines go all over the place.

Doug

i posted more for Trevors (and anyone else) benefit in order to provide some spatial context as it was apparent he is not  familiar w/ the general layout or the cardinality schema you posted.

being a geographer and all, i prefer simple visualization. but thats just me  i know just a little bit about infrastructure modeling too.  Wink

and yes...i've hoisted a beer or 500 in DC.  thanks!

LOL, yep actually working this morning, meetings from 9am - 3pm today.  Like Doug said I live by the orange line, right near the Rosslyn stop.

Pretty scary stuff.  though I rode the metro last night after it happened and everything was working fine throughout the system other than the one line where the accident happened.  Might have been on the ABC news last night, I went to a meeting downtown and walked right by George Washington Hospital and there were cameras everywhere.

Oh and am signing up tomorrow I think Suzy, just haven't had a chance yet but looking forward to it.

You can easily do white skim milk too. I do half skim and half fat free chocolate because it tastes to much better than straight white milk.  I used to eat fruit and yogurt when I got home, but Steve said liquids are absorbed better for faster recovery.  Milk apparently has the right ratio of carbs to protein.    Another tip was taking Amino Acids, the building blocks to protein. Glutamine is one of them.  You can easily down Amino Vital and water as well.  It's all the little stuff that gives you the edge.

I knew as soon as I said 85F all you southerners would be on me like a cheap suit.  You didn't disappoint.  Just remember those of us in the north melt above 75F, right Canadian friends?

Agreed... If it was anything above 75F, we would be advised to stay inside. WinkOur pasty white skin would burn in less than 5 minutes!!  Funny on my tri on the weekend, it was one of the warmest days we've had this year so far (23ish C ,so close to 80F)...People were all saying how hot it was for the run, etc, etc.
I was telling my wife we should leave the kids at home and hit Lonestar in April...problem is I'd be training through the winter and then hit Texas and I'd collapse coming off the bike from the heat!

Well, the entire network is down at work and all I have is the internet. Keep me entertained folks!

Suzy - k ft means 1000 feet.  But remember the race is already in the mountains.  And yes that big climb in the middle is a doozy.  Last year I actually walked it b/c I didn't trust I would be able to unclip fast enough when I fell over in my attempts to ride up it.  Even walking it took me 10 minutes. It is amazingly hard to push a bike up a steep hill in bike shoes.  We'll see how cocky I am this year if I attempt to ride that hill or not.

Chet - sweet bike. Glad I am not riding against you at B2B.  I'll send you a PM once we get the beach house arranged. We are looking at one that is within walking distance to T1 and T2.  Welcome!

Stan - you should report him.  If there are designated bike lanes with their own lights even there is no excuse for that type of behavior.  Cool move though.

I too drink Cholocate milk.  For really heavy workouts I'll do milk with chololate whey protein powder instead.  Gotta love CM!

And I take total offense to derogatory comments against Trekkies!  For several years my password was Seven of Nine.  Now we'll see how many of you are Trekkies and know what that password means. Wink  Hint, she is very hot!!!!

BTW, the house guests have succeeded in loosing my Garmin and hijacking the computer.  This bonding thing is way overrated and  I would like my house back please!  NOW!!!  Or at least a check to replace the Forerunner 305!  The lesson I learned from that is I am too dependant on my Garmin.  I feel like I can't go running without it!

One more thought.  I was telling the hubby about Lonestar last night, more of an explaination of why we can't do it, and he looked at me with an odd expression and said, "I don't know. Sounds kind of fun."  So don't rule us out.

sprint, OLY and/or HIM.  you can do them all if you want.  sprint and OLY are saturday and HIM sunday.   i was thinking OLY saturday and HIM relay Sunday.  There is talk here on BT (Texas forum) about people doing them all though.

for relay, hope the rule isn't slowest and fastest together because then you are stuck w/ me.

Do it!  that is great.

I want to follow Linda's plan and do Gulf Coast 1/2  in prep for IMFL (similiar /same course right Linda) so that's why I'm thinking relay at Lone Star... but that could change.

I need to figure out how to get over the salt water thing, but I would be up for the Sprint or Oly and then be some part of a HIM relay, preferably the bike or run.  WHen do we need to get serious about things? Trevor,  you and your wife should come.   I think we both can survive the heat.  We can practice by turning our heat up to 90F and then run on a TM for a couple of hours.

The email from Magali is very cool! I'm not surprised she was appreciative of the picture though. That is a FANTASTIC pic of her!

Tracy- Closet Trekkie here! Funny story: I was collecting the seasons of the original Star Trek when they came out at Costco. The cashier mentioned something about it, and I said. "yeah, I've been getting them because my kids really like them". The truth is I LOVE them and forced my kids to watch them (they learned to like them too though) Well, I guess I've come out of the closet

Hang in there with the family. Hope they find their own place soon!

Chet- Awesome bike! Looks fast!!!!

Lonestar... Sounds fun!!! Not sure if I can commit though
