Man just watching that made my heart rate jump like no other. I felt like I was actually swimming for a second. |

I'd much rather rather in lower temperatures anyway - 73 sounds perfect. It has been rather cool the last couple of nights over in LP. Having said this, it is suppose to warm up again over the next few days. No worries...the water is going to be beautiful. |

Does anyone else have this and do you like it? This is something else to raise my anxiety about now! Don't sweat the small stuff. You won't be looking at your watch for anything but total time on a long day like this. It's nice to look at all that stuff afterwards, but during the race take in the amazing scenery and the amazing crowds/volunteers. Enjoy the day, especially your first. I can certainly understand wanting splits on the run as it gets really really really hard to do math after about hour 10! |

Stay safe on your training and just glide to 7/22!! It will seem like forever but it will be here before you know it. And if you're bored just go pack for the 238438th time. SO awesome that you will be there!! We should put together a list of our Names/Bib #'s for you (or anyone else that may want it). Anyone know the best way to do that? |

I have had the 910 for about 6 months now, you will love it, I used it at Eagleman and it tracked my swim while on my wrist, way better than 305 and the battery lasts over 18 hours. It's much smaller on your wrist, so u hardly know its there, I still use my old, old, hr strap because I have no luck with the "new" soft strap. Get all your data fields set and play around ith it before the race and you will be fine! |

I have it too and love it !! I did have a problem with my first one though. After about 6 weeks, it wouldnt power up at all but Garmin customer service replaced it within the week with a brand new unit (with all the HR equipment and USB stick to boot!) |

Ok, if today were race day, we'd be wearing wetsuits. If the water gets to 76 ish, do they automatically make it optional? (if you wear, you don't get AG points or KQ but you can wear and still be in the race). At what temp do they say absolutely no wetsuits? If it is no wetsuit, what is everyone wearing? Speed/skin suit over tri shorts and tri top (for us girls), just shorts and top, one piece tri suit, true swim suit (think Speedo jammers or one piece for the gals)? |

I think the absolute cut-off where no one is allowed to wear westuits is 86 degrees. If Mirror Lake gets that hot it means fire and brimstone, armededdon-type stuff is about to happen so no wetsuit will be the least of our worries. I'm thinking of wearing an 'invisible De Soto Water Rover' wetstuit. |

Veteran 283 Va Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread For my no wetsuit races, I wear a TYR Torque speed suit. Not that it makes me faster, but my tri top w it's pockets would slow me down, so I use speed suit over tri top and shorts for a smoother swim. I don't think LP will be a no wetsuit swim, the question will be if they do like last year where you have 2 timing mats, one for no wetsuit KQ and AG types and one for wetsuits and no chance to AG or KQ and we all started at the same time or go like IMTX and have wetsuits start 10 minutes after no wetsuits. If they did that I would have a tough decision, don't think wetsuit saves me 10 minutes, but it saves energy that I will need later in the day. Unfortunatly WTC will not tell us anything until last minute, so just have a plan A and plan B and let the chips fall, it will not make that big a difference in the long run anyway. I did IMKY for my first IM and not wetsuits was not that big a deal, |

If no wetsuit (which I may choose not to wear one anyway), I will be wearing my tri shorts and tri top (no speed suit over top) and just keep that on for the bike. Then, full change in T2 for the run. |

I did IMKY for my first IM and not wetsuits was not that big a deal, My best case scenario here. I really don't like to wear a wetsuit and some of my best OW times have been without a wetsuit; I'm a decent swimmer, and would LOVE the headstart to be away from the swim crowd. Then, everyone can (and will!) pass me on the bike...LOL. |

That would likely make me join the non-wetsuit wave. |

Member 75 Huntley, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Speaking of speed suits; ideally, I would have one if the swim were "wetsuit optional" however, I don't!! Probably a little too late to get one, but what brand of speed suit do people where? Aquasphere seem to be the cheapest if I were to make a last minute purchase... If I had the money, I'd probably get blue seventy. Is it reasonable to do the full swim in in tri shorts and a top without a speed suit?? |

Veteran 283 Va Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I have TYR, last year at LP when KQ could not wear wetsuits, there was a run on the B-70"s at the expo, cheaper to get online prior to going there and at least a chance to try out before race. I can't say it makes me any faster, just to go over tri top and reduce drag. The complaint from last year was that the wetsuit wearers, clobbered the non wetsuit wearers because of the extra buoyancy the wetsuits provide. |

I can't say it makes me any faster, just to go over tri top and reduce drag. The complaint from last year was that the wetsuit wearers, clobbered the non wetsuit wearers because of the extra buoyancy the wetsuits provide. That is the rub...not wearing a wetsuit when the majority are in a mass start is a significant disadvantage. First as you mention, when you get that washing machine going on the first leg it is more comforting to be in a wetsuit no doubt. When you get hit or accidentally swallow a mouthful of water your panic factor is less in a wetsuit. Secondly you are swimming with a different level of swimmer than you are used to. That goes for all levels of swimmers not just the fasties. You will be with a group of swimmers who in a pool would be around 10 s per 100m slower. Just a whole different vibe. I am realistically not a Kona candidate so I will be wearing one unless it is prohibited. Just my 2 cents! |
