Fachmie, I've found the Manatees!!

Deep breath... Yanti told me the passwords are Pop Tarts (I had already figured that one out) and DOOOOO EEEEEET.  I tried to bribe her with pop tarts (well, the virtual kind which I'm pretty sure just ended up with her swearing at me for NOT sending actual ones), but I was told that I was already a Manatee and to just come by and introduce myself as I've been lurking for quite some time, but just too shy to actually say anything.

So... hi!

Name:   blueyedbikergirl / Monica

Story:  I've been pretty athletic all my life from a very young age (my mom still likes to bring up my days in Tiny Tot Tumbling) - national/olympic level rhythmic gymnast, won provincials with my basketball team, then won provincials with my beach volleyball parter before pretty much giving it all up and being quite sedentary... and gained a lot of weight in that process.  I've broken my back twice, had my right knee reconstructed twice, and gone through a 10 year battle with cancer that left me with no reproductive parts since 2007, though thankfully all of my checkups since then have been clear *knocks on compressed particle board with a lovely wood-like veneer finish*  I went through a fairly nasty breakup with my then husband in 2009 and somehow decided to get active again - and even though I didn't have a bike and I hadn't been in the water to actually SWIM in years, I signed up for a triathlon.  It kicked.my.azz.  But I was absolutely hooked.  It's also the time that I found BT, and started chatting to a few folks on here.  Fast forward to June 2010 and I flew to Chicago to meet some BTers... one of whom ended up making quite the impression on me - so much so that I moved to the UK in February 2011 to be with him.  He got transferred back to Chicago in May of 2012, and so I followed in June... we got married last July, did IMAZ together in November last year, then went to Vegas to have a proper ceremony with friends, family, and a fat Elvis.

Family Status: Married!  No kids, no pets... heck, it's sometimes a miracle that we're still alive.

Current Training: Following the Be Iron Fit plan and in week... something.  I'll have to check on that.

This Year's Races:  Lake in the Hills, Pleasant Prairie, AG Nationals, maybe Rev3 Cedar Point HIM, B2B full distance

Body Composition:  My body still works, no matter how it's composed - I'm gonna try to keep it that way.

That's about all... Pop Tarts!!

Welcome, Monica. I am glad you knew the password!

Hi Felicia - thank you for the welcome!

The first password was pretty darned easy to figure out.  I just wasn't sure if the second one was going to be something about using the phonetic alphabet to make fat pug, or something about getting my Jogo done or something a tad more obscure.

Welcome Monica! I'm so impressed with your learning all the manatee-speak - you are soooo IN!  And you seem thoroughly nuts, so, glad to have ya!

Btw, I'm Brie - the "Ariel" in my user name is because I love the Little Mermaid.  "Lil B" is because I'm little and my name begins with B (one of my best friends, Brittany, is "Big B" - it had to do with a genetic experiment in junior year AP Bio - and she's taller than me.  We're weirdos.  And our rabbits got married - walked down the aisle, something old/something new, the works - so that it would be proper for them to make a baby together. So yeah, weirdos.)

I woulda posted here but was also in a chat room on another forum I'm on that was more apropos at the exact moment ... anyway there's a friend of mine that's in a terrible place (I've been there, I know many of you have) and really wanted to end it all. I so wish we had emergency services in Indonesia and of course she's in JAKARTA and I'm here in Bali.

I think we got through the worst of it. She'll be calling me back in half an hour (or I'll call her) and if there's no answer I will send someone to her house.

Running through my mind who to send now, just in case need be.

Believe me, I'm doing the best I can and if I were REALLY REALLY worried I'd have already sent someone to literally kidnap her and go toss her in a hospital in restraints. Last resort but it's a possibility. I just don't want to do that to her and I don't think at this point it's necessary.

Also, she really does want to live or she wouldn't have spent all that time talking to me. She'd just have done herself in. We'll figure something out tomorrow. In the meanwhile I'm giving her very simple things to do--make tea, drink it, breathe, read a paragraph out loud from a spiritual book I gave her--and then call me.

Once the sun comes up, it's another day. Also she has two boys that she'll be busy getting off to school.

As for me, this seriously necessitates another Pop Tart.

If anyone has any brilliant (or even sometimes the most incredibly stupid ones are) suggestions I'm all ears. She also has the URL of a 24-hour chat room that she can go to, just to get help, support, pass the time, whatever. I understand. I've been there and I know every minute can be agony.

Wow, that sounds like something you should share - it's not easy to be the supporter in that situation, either. what a great friend you are.  It's the hard times that show you who you can really count on.  I know you already know that.

Oh geez Yanti - I'm so sorry your friend is going through this.

Do you have a mutual friend in Jakarta that can stay with her (and report to you)?

I know the best thing for me was staying with someone who basically took it upon themselves to make sure that I was still around.  She took me in, fed me, made sure I got to work, made sure I went outside and realized how beautiful the world is, and most importantly, made sure I knew that someone loved me and wanted me around.

Keeping her (and, as always, you) in my thoughts.

Dude steps away from the thread for a while and look what happens. Smile

Monica, welcome. It looks as though you are fitting in nicely already.

Yanti - I am keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. Still. I truly hope that your time in Bali is somewhat relaxing.

Janyne, thanks for the heads up! I'll add to the list.

Erin - Is that the Over 18 pool in that picture????? Where was the 3D glasses pic taken?

Hi Brie!  My best friend Lianimal/Sweets/Evil Twin (Liane IRL) and I have also been dubbed weirdos by many.  Within my circle of motorcycle friends we're also known as Angel 2 and Angel 3... there is also an Angel 1 (Di, who is one of the most amazing people I have ever met), Charlie and Bosley to add to the mix.  We've never had a rabbit wedding, but I swore if I ever had a rabbit I'd name him Stu...

Currently, I'm stuffing my face with anything beginning with "p." Unfortunately, I think I shall have to put off my breakfast piglet (hm ... also starts with P) but I'm pretty sure he'll still hang in there for a lunch postponement. Too. Tired.

P.S. Piglet delivery also begins with P. Hm.

Oh, your lovely-Yanti-ness, or is it Yanti-lovely-ness... well either way... I, thank God, have never been in a place that dark. If I were, I would pray for an angel-friend like you to guide me through. You are such a giving, caring person, and I'm sure she senses the love and it will give her something to lean on.

I have had so many angel friends--some are Manatees --and what I believe were actual angels be there for me in my life. Things like this are a true privilege, and I'm not saying that in a oh-humble-me way (I'm not humble. At all.) What can be greater than firing up and holding a light for someone who can't do it themselves right at the moment?

It's cooler than carrying the Olympic torch.

Speaking of which, I might kick a gold-medal Olympian out of one of the other forums I mod. This is a wonderful person I am sure, but clearly joined for the sole purpose of getting "Likes" for a Facebook fan page. Sorry. Not what the forum is for.

Brought Fi to Santa Fe today so that I could Jogo with her and look at some new scenery. Well the route I chose was great with lots of shoulder room headed out but was treacherous with little-to-no shoulder room, and lotsa traffic, on the way back. Anyway, we survived and I got my Jogo done but missed my training planned time by 6 minutes. We'll make it up tomorrow when we are on our home turf.

Tomorrow is my second of 5 (so far) unpaid furlough days (thank you congress) so I'll have all day to ride but I think I'll get it done before it's 90* out. Cool

I feel your furlough pain.  We've had state mandated furloughs here in NC.  It's not like they took the work away, just gave use less time and less money to do it in!

Ugh - I've got a couple of friends here that have been told that they'll be furloughed one day every other week until the end of the summer.

I don't even want to begin with how jealous I am of your 90* weather - we'll be lucky if it hits 70* today.  (confession - I still have no idea what temps mean in Fahrenheit - I had to do the conversion from Celsius)

No no, you are here for me to kick down to you what Sheila kicks down to me so you can roll hate back up and make me feel all warm and fuzzy as I call you a fartingalientusked prettyuglyginger.

Welcome, Monica!! That IS quite the bio, and huge congrats to you on kicking cancer's can!  I'm digging your sense of humor already, and let me add that anytime a foxtrotalbatrosstiger pumpernickelultragibbon gets tossed in the mix I can't help but laugh, I'm so thankful for Yanti starting that awesome craziness!

Hi Melanie! Or do you prefer Mel?  Or is there a nickname that Yanti has given you that I should abide by?

HA!  When I wrote the email to Yanti asking if it would be okay to introduce myself, I think I wrote something to the effect of "after reading the posts, I know I'm just as off my rocker as everyone else - so I think I'll fit in quite well!"

I don't think I have a Yanti nickname, so either Melanie or Mel will work, or whatever you want to call me.  I am a person of many nicknames, both the giver of and recipient of!

Why does my cat like eating pistachio shells? Why do I waste my money on cat food?

Yanti - wishing the very best for your friend and hoping she finds some light (in addition to what you provide) in the darkness.

Okay, I go to sleep now. My friend's been faithfully calling me back on the hour and she knows some simple things to do before she has to make her kids breakfast and get them off to school in a few hours. Also she knows she can call me back anytime and I'll wake up if the phone rings and answer it.

Pity about the piglet. I'm sure he would have bought me a very nice breakfast. Maybe I'll still go, and then crash at a friend's or my sister's and have a nap afterward.

I remember a long time ago during a similar episode someone told me that people I didn't even know were praying for me and wishing me well. That touched me deeply. I will pass it on.

Cool

"Cooler by the Lake"? It's upper 70's out in the suburbs, or ~25. I'll be going for a run fairly soon, hoping for at least some clouds.
