Triple for today.

Started with a morning swim in Lake Michigan.  Put on my wetsuit, waded in to put on cap and goggles.  Man was it cold.  Then HB was speaking in that nasty voice and said "HB don't give a sH*%# if it's cold"  and I proceeded to swim for 30 minutes.  I was not as cold as I thought I was going to be.  My core was toasty warm and once everything else went numb I was good to go.  My husband was waiting for me on the beach when I finished.  He had that look on his face that said "man my wife is a bad a$$"  Went to the state park to check the water temp.  It was 59 degrees.  Yipee- I can do this,  I will be wearing my neoprene cap for sure and will probably get booties if they are allowed.  I will also make sure I have socks for the bike ride until my feet thaw out.  I usually go sockless.

Bike and run went well.  Huge confidence boost today.

Great to see you all battling the elements and gaining confidence as we go in. DONT FORGET that a conservative plan is wiser than an aggressive plan based on the recent training results. Patience is a virtue, slow and steady wins the race, aint no reason to rush...You go a helluva lot faster running than you do walking because your biked to aggressively.

Yeah but it looks a lot cooler when you are blowing by people on the first loop of the bike course Wink

Any buying Banquet tickets ahead of time or can we still get them on site? For some reason after spending close to $10,000 on this trip, race and vacation to follow the thought of giving active.com a few bucks chaps my a$$. Yell

Well, even with my wife being out of town and me having the three rugrats to herd, I was able to do a nice and easy 5 mile run, and spent 2 quality hours on the trainer late tonight.  For not knowing how hard I would hit it this week, it's shaping up to be a good one.  40 miles running so far (probably do another 8 tomorrow) and 200 on the bike.   I'm looking forward to a nice rest.

Just finished another late night computrainer ride on the course, doing 1 loop. Not sure what I will do with myself in a couple of weeks when I go to ride on the trainer. Have been riding this course exclusively for 9 months. Will I miss it? Undecided

Last ride (with a short run after) before the race this AM.  Then a massage (Honey Badge DOES care about this) and dropping off the bike at the LBS for Tribike transport this afternoon.  2 weeks without my baby?  What am I going to cuddle up with at night?

sportyj - 2011-06-11 4:10 PM Water temp updates? I don't really care, just curious.I've heard the road surface at CDA is awesome. I'm a sucker for smooth pavement. Truth in that? Is there a BT get together planned?

I think I've decided to play the "it's better if I don't know" for the water temps.

As for meetups, we're doing BT swims at 8AM on Thurs/Fri.  Some folks are riding and running, but I forgot the times.

I suggest we meet up for the dinner on Friday. But don't know of a location that works...any suggestions from race vets?

I have to drop mine off today too.  I am doing my two hour ride next weekend on my mountain bike.  Should be fun!!

How much swimming will most of you do over the next two weeks?  Same as every week?  More this week, then less the following week?

My swimming will be a little more this week.  Hopefully most of the workouts will be OWS.  Next week will be a little challenging for swimming; we're driving to Cd'A and leaving on Sunday to be able to do some site seeing on the way.

Hopefully 4 days in the pool this week...nothing more than 2000 yards each time though....really just to keep the shoulders/back loose. Hopefully it will keep me from going crazy. Not sure about next week....our road trip starts on Wednesday.Oh, I did go into the shop and changed my 404/808 combo to an 808/1080 set. I figure....go big or go home.

So, the good news is the lake is literally warming up everyday:

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?cb_00010=on&format=html&period=15&site_no=12417610

If we raced today, at start time we would've been looking at 55.4 degrees, give it two more weeks and I'm pulling for at least 60 degrees...it's gone up that amount over the past 2 weeks, so there is cause for believing that to be possible!

Oooooh, getting so close!  Just throwing this out there: I did a good bit of super cold OWS this spring and found that the booties were really annoying.  The neoprene cap was an absolute must but the booties seemed to fill with water and I wound up taking them off and throwing them on the beach.  They were the correct size, so not sure what was going on.

That's how I feel about the hills on the bike course.  Denial is a strategy, right?

I'm hoping to get in the full distance in open water after work twice this week, then scale it back to three 2000-2500m workouts before the race, whenever I can fit them in, plus the short BT swim next Friday - this is about the same volume as the last month. I swam the full distance+ non-stop Saturday morning and was happy with how it went, so now I just want to maintain conditioning and feel it a few more time mentally.

On the topic of race numbers, I only hope I don't get something obnoxious like I almost did in my very first tri - '665' at a sprint last Father's day. That was too close for comfort, so I'll just take a nice anonymous number that I can put on the growing stack when I get home.

After putting in a little extra volume over the past two weeks, I'm now going full-on taper per my plan the rest of the way. I feel my swim and bike are where I'd hoped to get them to, but all I know about the run is that it is going to hurt... a lot. That's what I get for PR'ing a training run to make up for running a little slower in a HIM than I wanted to. Next time, I'll know better.

Stay healthy, in two weeks we'll almost all be running... hard to believe after 6+ of training for this thing.

I have a mix of ocean and pool swims scheduled. The ocean swims are mostly about staying acclimated to rough cold water. It can and does get pretty wind at times in CdA. The pool swims are all short fast intervals meant to crank up the intensity. At the race site, I will hope to do a lap on Friday and something less on Saturday all @ IM pace.

Training is done and I survived. Not sure about this Tapir thing you keep referring to. When I look it up, it mentions somethin about a short herbivore with a longish snout but for the life of me, I have no idea what it has to do with training
