Well I got a few coming up.

Sept 15 - Sunshine Coast 70.3

Dec 1 - Challenge Phuket 70.3 (after two day training camp with Macca)

Feb 9 - Challenge Melbourne 70.3

March 24 - Melbourne IM

I'm a little petrified.

Yikes!

I know you are all dying for an update on my flight from hell, so -looks like some good news. A/c is fixed and we've been told we can get going... Once we get some fuel which will take about 40 minutes. So, the end may be in sight or at least the beginning of the end. You can all rest easily now

hey all! So just when I figured I would have tons of time to post and whatnot (thank you to no school!), Things just get too busy everywhere else! We (hubs and I) are now (hopefully) getting the home refinanced so that we may SAVE money (foreign concept here!),  and I am trying to get stuff cleaned out and organized--we have too much JUNK. Training-wise, I have been on track, even getting my Jogo done! I would be lying if I said it was easy though. At work, I have faced the most stress, thanks in part to my unhelpful coworker (Overpaid, yet too 'good' to do the minimal job--I get to deal with the consequences...), but also, as of next week, I start training/shadowing for supervisory duties...yes, manatee friends, they are putting ME in charge of the WHOLE ZOO (occasionally...) its kind of a weird feeling--but it will definitely look good on the resume. I am having great success with the Caiman and Monitor Lizard training--the Monitor is actually getting to the point where she will let me hold her! We plan on videotaping a training session, and when that happens I will post it here. On the downside, my salamander minions have turned up with Chytrid fungus infections--for those not familiar, this fungus is responsible for the extinction AND endangerment of many of the world's frog species--apparently tiger salamanders are carriers...We have to totally change up our routine/care of the animals in the house to make sure it doesn't spread and kill our frogs.

In any case, Here's some pics, just for fun...

my college grad pic (for those who didn't see it on Facebook.)

This is my running/OCR group at a local mud run (I am directly behind the sign); we're a little odd, but we have a great time.

Brought Fi to Santa Fe today so that I could Jogo with her and look at some new scenery. Well the route I chose was great with lots of shoulder room headed out but was treacherous with little-to-no shoulder room, and lotsa traffic, on the way back. Anyway, we survived and I got my Jogo done but missed my training planned time by 6 minutes. We'll make it up tomorrow when we are on our home turf.

Tomorrow is my second of 5 (so far) unpaid furlough days (thank you congress) so I'll have all day to ride but I think I'll get it done before it's 90* out. Cool

Ugh - I've got a couple of friends here that have been told that they'll be furloughed one day every other week until the end of the summer.

I don't even want to begin with how jealous I am of your 90* weather - we'll be lucky if it hits 70* today.  (confession - I still have no idea what temps mean in Fahrenheit - I had to do the conversion from Celsius)

"Cooler by the Lake"? It's upper 70's out in the suburbs, or ~25. I'll be going for a run fairly soon, hoping for at least some clouds.

Haha!  Thanks for doing the conversion for me, now I know what you're talking about!  I guess that's the case, at least that's what the weather people always seem to say.  Enjoy your run and I hope you find those clouds you're looking for, from my vantage point in d/t Chi-town... there aren't any to hide under.

(second confession:  I also have trouble with miles... the only way I can figure them out is using 5km ~ 3miles, 10km ~ 6miles... I know, I know it's 1.609km per mile - but that's just too hard for my brain)

Both the run and Masters swim went easier than I thought with decent pacing for each, so very nice day.

That's kind of what I do at times for distances, but the other way. 5/8 is rather close, but most can better handle 2/3 then a little under. Haven't had as much incentive to convert to metric outside of classes years ago. Wink

JoGo is done for the day. It wasn't quick, but it is done. I am looking at a long work day today, than a group ride with another different group tomorrow. The "Motley Crew" as my friend Sue described them. I'm going to probably ride with the slower group as a test.  Depending on how that goes, I may jump up to the faster group in the next few weeks. This is the group that has members that do stuff like ride from Prudhomme Bay Alaska to Edmonton Alberta then follow that the next year by starting in Edmonton and riding to Key West in an unsupported ride.  Most are recent retirees with time, money, and resources to ride often and well. These guys and gals can flat out ride and it will be a test for me to keep up. I'm looking forward to it.

I leave you this Friday with this nugget from Alan Loy McGinnis: "Focus on your potential instead of your limitations."

Have an outstanding weekend everyone, race well if you are racing, heal if you are hurting, travel safely if you are traveling, train smartly if you are training, and above all else, find the joy in your life.

GO MANATEE RACERS!!!

That would include me. Not "racing"--participating in the Bali Marathon in the half as a training run.

Tired beyond belief today. Friend is in good hands with other friends and they'll do whatever is necessary to get her the help she needs.

9pm. I'm in bed and ready to sleep.

Yanti-- I hope you've been able to catch up on your sleep.  You were doing the work of a good, true friend.  Hugs to you.  And thanks for letting me join your group.

Hi All-

I have been chatting with a few of you via PM and inspire, so when Dan suggested that a mentoring group might be helpful, I knew who I wanted my peeps to be, and Yanti was kind enough to let me in:) Yay!

I've been a runner for over 20 years, but this is my first tri season.  I have a sprint and oly done, next two races will be HIMs four weeks apart (July and August), then a couple more olys and a fall marathon to wrap up the year.

Good luck to all of you who are racing this weekend:)

Welcome! Yanti is really spicing things up with some fresh faces, and I think the rest of us Manatees are better for it!  That is an ambitious first tri season - how did you get ready for the swim and bike?  I'm in my second season and the bike is coming along, but the swim is a bit lacking (I supposed getting in the water and swimming would help a bit, bah) but I'm still nervous to do my first Oly in Aug.  Were you previously a swimmer? How long have you been in tri training mode?

I love that quote.  It really hits home.  I'm trying to work towards transitioning out of law into non-profit work, and all I think of is how much experience I don't have in that area (even though I know I have transferable skills!!), beating myself down that I'll never find a job and get out of law practice.  I focus on limitations at work too.  Jeez, and training, come to think of it.  What a negative nelly!  So thanks, Chris!! And have a happy Father's Day!

I'm going to type that out in pretty colors, tape it to my monitor, and change my attitude!

Welcome! I hope that you are doing well. How goes the training and such? 20 years of running explains the speediness I saw in your logs. Good luck with your HIM's and with all you have planned for the year. Pretty ambitious schedule.

BTW, I need a name for you. Like a real name.  Otherwise it is hard to put you in the list. Thanks!
