http://www.handsfreemama.com/2012/04/16/six-words-you-should-say-today/ That is awesome. Isn't it amazing how showing a little bit of love and praise in a simply way can have such a strong impact on someone else? |

So just when I figured I would have tons of time to post and whatnot (thank you to no school!), Things just get too busy everywhere else! We (hubs and I) are now (hopefully) getting the home refinanced so that we may SAVE money (foreign concept here!), and I am trying to get stuff cleaned out and organized--we have too much JUNK. Training-wise, I have been on track, even getting my Jogo done! I would be lying if I said it was easy though. At work, I have faced the most stress, thanks in part to my unhelpful coworker (Overpaid, yet too 'good' to do the minimal job--I get to deal with the consequences...), but also, as of next week, I start training/shadowing for supervisory duties...yes, manatee friends, they are putting ME in charge of the WHOLE ZOO (occasionally...) its kind of a weird feeling--but it will definitely look good on the resume. I am having great success with the Caiman and Monitor Lizard training--the Monitor is actually getting to the point where she will let me hold her! We plan on videotaping a training session, and when that happens I will post it here. On the downside, my salamander minions have turned up with Chytrid fungus infections--for those not familiar, this fungus is responsible for the extinction AND endangerment of many of the world's frog species--apparently tiger salamanders are carriers...We have to totally change up our routine/care of the animals in the house to make sure it doesn't spread and kill our frogs. In any case, Here's some pics, just for fun...
This is my running/OCR group at a local mud run (I am directly behind the sign); we're a little odd, but we have a great time.
? Haha Way to "slow down". Great pic of your runners. Makes me wish I lived closer to groups around here. |

I don't think I have a Yanti nickname, so either Melanie or Mel will work, or whatever you want to call me. I am a person of many nicknames, both the giver of and recipient of! Sounds good to me! I think the worst nickname that someone *tried* to give me was Spumoni... I nixed that one RIGHT away. To almost everyone I'm usually just Mon. Apparently my friends aren't very creative. I sense a tactical error. Yanti may latch onto that! |

Well the route I chose was great with lots of shoulder room headed out but was treacherous with little-to-no shoulder room, and lotsa traffic, on the way back. Anyway, we survived and I got my Jogo done but missed my training planned time by 6 minutes. We'll make it up tomorrow when we are on our home turf. Tomorrow is my second of 5 (so far) unpaid furlough days (thank you congress) so I'll have all day to ride but I think I'll get it done before it's 90* out. Ugh - I've got a couple of friends here that have been told that they'll be furloughed one day every other week until the end of the summer. I don't even want to begin with how jealous I am of your 90* weather - we'll be lucky if it hits 70* today. (confession - I still have no idea what temps mean in Fahrenheit - I had to do the conversion from Celsius) "Cooler by the Lake"? It's upper 70's out in the suburbs, or ~25. I'll be going for a run fairly soon, hoping for at least some clouds. Haha! Thanks for doing the conversion for me, now I know what you're talking about! I guess that's the case, at least that's what the weather people always seem to say. Enjoy your run and I hope you find those clouds you're looking for, from my vantage point in d/t Chi-town... there aren't any to hide under. (second confession: I also have trouble with miles... the only way I can figure them out is using 5km ~ 3miles, 10km ~ 6miles... I know, I know it's 1.609km per mile - but that's just too hard for my brain) I KNEW I liked you. I can't do the conversions without help and it seems that about half this group is not in the US. I like to think that I have other more pressing matters on my mind (although I know that may not be true either.) You do realize that I really did submit the conversion pop up idea to Ron last week? Maybe it's not such as crazy idea after all! |

I made it to New York and onto the plane to Paris. Then we sat on the Tarmac for 2 hrs because the a/c is broken. They dithered over what to do before saying we have to go back to the gate. And now we've been trying to find an open gate for at least a half hour. So, I have no idea when I will be able to leave this hot, hot, hot, miserable plane. We should be 2.5 hrs into the 6 hour flight. Instead we are in no man's land with no idea what will happen next. I am not amused. I am, however, hungry. I'm sure that you are in France by now but that sucks! I hope that they got you off the plane pronto and fed the hungry triathlete! |

http://www.handsfreemama.com/2012/04/16/six-words-you-should-say-today/ Love this! At the same time it makes me a little sad - my parents weren't able to see me for the majority of my competitions. When I got to the point where I really wasn't too half bad, almost all of my competitions were in other places in the world - though if they hadn't gotten me into sports in the first place, I certainly wouldn't have gotten to do 1/2 the things I got to do. Thankfully my parents get to go see my little niece and nephew at their sporting events now and watch them grow and improve - and of course the little ones love showing off for grandma and grandpa. |

Hi All- I have been chatting with a few of you via PM and inspire, so when Dan suggested that a mentoring group might be helpful, I knew who I wanted my peeps to be, and Yanti was kind enough to let me in:) Yay! I've been a runner for over 20 years, but this is my first tri season. I have a sprint and oly done, next two races will be HIMs four weeks apart (July and August), then a couple more olys and a fall marathon to wrap up the year. Good luck to all of you who are racing this weekend:) Piles of Plentiful Pop Tarts! xo, Switch Welcome! Yanti is really spicing things up with some fresh faces, and I think the rest of us Manatees are better for it! That is an ambitious first tri season - how did you get ready for the swim and bike? I'm in my second season and the bike is coming along, but the swim is a bit lacking (I supposed getting in the water and swimming would help a bit, bah) but I'm still nervous to do my first Oly in Aug. Were you previously a swimmer? How long have you been in tri training mode? Hey Ariel-- nice to meet you. Thanks for the warm welcome :) I started training for tris at the end of last summer--my youngest turned two, and I was ready for some "me" time. I did some commuting all summer (and my commute is 32 miles each way), so I guess regular biking since last June and regularish swimming since last August, though I would go loooong periods without getting into the pool because I sucked--like totally-gassed-after-50yds sucked. I knew that had to change (the swim isn't going to go away huh?), so I did a swim focus in March and April and it was one of the best things I think I've done as far as tri training. I am already looking forward to doing another swim focus next winter, and I have the tickle of a long distance OWS race in the back of my head. Someday. Maybe. I'm doing a bike focus now, as that seems like my weakest link, and I think that will help my run off the bike too. I kind of like the "focus" approach when training. I feel like I can kinda hold steady in the other two, and make good progress in one, but I don't feel able to make good progress in two disciplines at once. I don't know if that makes sense, but it's about all my little brain can handle:) Good luck training for your Oly. I liked it a lot more than the Sprint. It was longer, yes, but it wasn't red-red lining the whole way, which I'm just not built for. I'll leave that to the 116lb 15 year olds:) |

Sorry Manatees - I can't do any inspiring until I get to my home computer... and I may not be all that coherent by the time I get there as it's national burbon day (helllooooooo Makers Mark!), but I'll try to write something. Wait, what? IE8 is still on the issue list???? Yep, I noticed it either yesterday or the day before (all the days this week are starting to blend together) that I can't access inspires in any way. Any time I try to see them I get a little pop up box saying "this tab has been recovered". There's already a thread about it in the bugs, and Ron knows about it. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon! I think he was somewhat surprised at how much Inspires get used. Lol! I bet that was quite the surprise if he didn't know how extensively it's used - but for me, it's also one of the best things about BT in my opinion. |

Rio Rancho, NM

my college grad pic (for those who didn't see it on Facebook.)
Supervisor? That's awesome! They must've seen that you have a special bond with your zoo friends...being a Manatee and all.
