(I hope...) The weather here has been super yuck! We were supposed to have a partial sunny weekend last weekend and it ended up raining! Rain all this week and it has been pouring ARRRGGHHH - just checked weather.com - rain forecast until NEXT FRIDAY 6/13 - EVERY DAY!!!!! where is my straight jacket... I guess the spinner and treadmill will continue to be my friend for a couple more weeks! PS - sorry for whining so much
I hear your fine state has rain pretty much every day. Egads. How do you stand it. I think I would rather take these 50-60 degree late spring days than rain every day. Buck up, you will get outside again sometime |

This year has been REALLY HARD for me. we usually get a "teaser" of a sunny week in May, then June comes and "June Gloom" sets in - It's usually raining on July 4th. BUT we have spectacular summers!! I'm convinced we think they're the best because we're so thankful for any tiny ray of sun by the time July rolls around! Well - glad I have a pool to go to and the gym! That's how it was here in May. Every weekend it stormed. I was going crazy by the end of it. Hope you don't go too crazy. |

Never formerly. I try to send you an inspire every day now that we are teammates. I am a Mom of three and two great dogs. My hubby and I started triing last summer and fell in love with it. He has challenged himself to an oly and a him this summer working his way up to a full IMAZ in November. I had set a goal for a half mary in May, which I completed and am contemplating a full mary in Sept. BUT, hubby gets right of workouts since he had his goal set first and both of us training crazy hours would seriously put a damper on the kiddos. Family first. |

Mom to 2 girls (known as Elder & Younger Monkey) with a fit husband (named Sugar Daddy). He doesn't tri but he is an avid lifter. Usually he gets the morning (before work) slot, unless I get up at an ungodly hour to run before he goes to the gym. My schedule is more flexible (I'm a college prof), so I get the "whenever I get around to it" slot...which today will happen shortly. On weekends, if we both want to do something, we use the childcare at the gym - although in the summer, I hate going to the gym (except to swim). I'm trying to get Elder Monkey interested in sports - she did her first running race (0.5 miles) in May. I'm hoping that down the line, family first will mean that we're all active. |

Love the monkey handle. Cute. We entered the boys into the kids tri at our very first. They loved it. My oldest (now 8) was disappointed he didn't get to swim the swim portion. The water was to shallow so most of the kids just walked. He ran a half mile at school a couple of weeks ago in 3:30. WOW! He is jazzed to do the Tri again this summer. My 7 year old loves all things sports so he is excited too. The two year old is just a little too small. Next year though |

Master 1567 Kauai, Hawaii | Subject: RE: Kamikaze Geckos Since I have a minute to pad I will introduce myself as well. Mom of twin almost 4 yr old boys, you would have never guessed that by my screen name, which at the time that I made it I thought twins were still a novelty, not anymore they are everywhere! Started triing back in my late 20's but moved from NH to Florida and realized I was 30 and needed to get pregnant! Trained for that for the next 6yrs and moved to my present location and got pregnant! I then needed to loose the weight and get back in shape so I started training for a race, I had fertility issues and high intensity exercise ended up not being a good thing for me to conceive. Now I try to train in between all the mommy duties, work occasionally, and trading time with Hubby who is a surfer. All you mom's who work and have kids and train I have the utmost respect for you! I work on call as a nurse so I make my own schedule which is usually only one night a week.

Veteran 290 Texas | Subject: RE: Kamikaze Geckos Very cool that some of you have your kids tri'ing. I think my daughter would really like it. I should sign her up for a local kids fun run and see how she does. She can't swim yet, even though we've been in 4 sessions of lessons and a couple on and off when she was younger. We'll keep trying. She LOVEs the water though. My story - 46 yo working, single mom (already mentioned my 2 kids - 16 & 5) - former competitive swimmer WAY BACK! making swimming the "easiest" for me, except I'm really nervous about OWSing. This tri thing started when I entered a fitness challenge at work in late fall. I knew I'd need a goal to shoot for after it was over so on a whim - kind of - signed up for a sprint triathlon. I'd thought about trying to do one on and off over the years. Turns out I signed up for a hard one - so then I signed up for two more easier ones Makes total sense right? They are late season, one each in Aug, Sept, Oct. I'm incredibly slow in running as in couldn't pass Jr. Hi PE and I'm slow in biking. The good news is I've totally improved in both since I started training in Feb - so that is super awesome! Excited to be in this group - Yeah! PS - No more whining from me unless I'm complaining about my sore muscles from all the training I'm doing Edited by chikopiakomak 2008-06-04 6:11 PM |

The older one rides long bike rides with me and just earned a trophy for running 36 miles. She is doing her first tri this summer. I started running to get into shape for the police academy and became addicted to running. This last fall, a friend said I should tri with her. Well trained hard and was ready, but broke my leg 4 weeks before my race. Through some BT friends and a doc telling me I would not run again - race, I am again training for a race. I do not like swimming...at all...I love to run, but that is limited. Weight lifting is right up there for greatest things to do when I want to choke people, Running is a stress break! Hubby.....is not active...at all. Thats bout it. |

I started running a few years ago as a stress reliever and injured my foot. Took up biking to keep moving without the stress on the foot. I never fell in love with the bike there...BUT I had a friend at work who did a local tri and it got me thinking about one again (I had dismissed the idea as crazy several years before). Started working with a swim coach who has taken me from a step above dog paddle to a decent (albeit slow) stroke. I was hooked with my first tri last June and have done 3 in all. I recently started to love my bike, still prefer running and love swimming --though OWS is still one of those HTFU events for me Jen has me talked into an OWS 1 mile river swim event in a couple weeks to get my head removed from my keester on that one My A race this year is my first oly in September so I'm working hard at following a real training plan this year. |

I lived in Blacksburg (Virginia Tech) for the majority of my childhood (with side trips to Madison, Oxford England, Boston). I went to school at Ohio University. I took a job in Hartford CT. The company made me an offer I could not refuse---which was to move out of CT. I transfered to Northern California and have been there ever since. I was on the fast track to diabetes (my grandfather got his leg amputated)--I ballooned up to 212--but was probably heavier as I avoided scales. About four years ago I started to swim at my kid's masters program. Three years ago I started to run on April 15th. I started to think about TRIs and began to train for one that summer. I dropped down to 183--but am now at 187, which is more comfortable for me. I am married (my wife does tris too) and have five kids. |
