How is everyone's training going. I hate this time of year just working out and not on any particular plan yet. I have been pretty religious with the workouts for a couple weeks now so I know I am getting excited. Just can't wait for my plan to start.

I am not at the Galt house as I like to be away from all the hype. . .

The training is going well. . . as well as February can go I guess.

My training is going well.  I've missed a workout or two here and there.

First race of the year is this weekend.  I'm curious to see what kind of improvement I'll have.  I have a year of training in my legs and I'm 15 pounds lighterthis year.

Training has suddenly gotten a lot better.  Took 9 weeks off run/bike to let an injury heal.  Started riding again this week.

After 9 weeks of nothing but swimming, even riding the trainer in my basement feels like fun!

I've got the pre-plan start blahs. Which is probably ok. I want to be rested so come March 1st I'm ready to hit it hard steady. I think I'm going to try a mile in the pool for time today.

I'm staying at the Days Inn near 4th street live! Close to the finish so I can shower and maybe make it back down to the finish line to catch other finish.

My training just got off into the ditch. I've injurred somethng in my back/shoulder/neck. Went to an ortho doc but he was not able to determine the source of the pain. Said it might be a disk in my neck...causeing a pain in my tricep and rotator cuff.

So as of today, I'm on the bench; injurred resere. No running, no swimming...not sure if I can bike as I don't want to stress my back/neck by going aero...I guess the trainer would be ok but I hate the trainer.

Well anyway, this is why we need to stay trained up so if something like this does happen and we have to take some time off we can do so.

Right now my focus is on building an aerobic base and staying healthy! On Monday, I start 8 weeks of “winter maintenance” which includes strength and core training. I have also started taking yoga which should help with flexibility.  May 4th is when the real fun starts. That will give me 17 weeks of intense training before the race allowing me to peak at the precise time.Laughing

My "training" right now is in my Winter Build phase where I build my base workouts as the winter comes to a close in preparation for the first of my tri/race build phases:

Right now...swimming is two shorter focused swims per week (1.5K ea) and one long Masters swim (4K)

Biking is two indoor Computrainer sessions per week with another on the weekend (or an outside ride if possible)...nothing long, just staying in touch with my bike.

Running is three runs a week...one short (2-3 miles-dreadmill), one a technique/speedwork run (2-3 miles with strides or sprint intervals), one longish run (right now @ 6+ building to 8+ by mid-March)

Everything else is lifting twice a week, core twice a week, and trying to eat right.....

All told: we'll see??

that looks like a great base build phase. I need to follow something like that off season. Trying the half ironman first prepairing for that in mid May , then switching to the ironman plan after that. it leaves about 14 wks
I hope that works. This will be my first so..........

Please your recovery weeks are like 1,000+ min.

I'm really thinking of giving you a few bucks so after you cross the finish line, eat, get a massage, shower, nap, watch some tv, take another nap, eat again, read a book, paint your toenails, take a 6 mile recovery run, you can grab me a bacon cheeseburger from hooters since I should  be crossing the line right about then

Can I place a burger order too? The post-race food looked less than desirable last year... all I wanted was a cheese burger!

LOL!! Gary & Maura - both of you are doing great with your training.  I have a feeling we may be finishing close to the same time.  We can put our food order in my my hubby who will be there cheering us on again.  :-)

Max Longree, 2008 winner had a HUGE cheeseburger from the Hard Rock Cafe waiting for him at the finish. It was served on a pristine white plate by an attractive HRC waitress. I'd like one of those.
