I remember seeing a post on one forum or another about someone who working on their nutrition plan for a sprint race.  Am I missing something.  I thought all I had to worry about was making sure my water bottles were full...  Does anyone else do gu's or electrolyte replacement drinks, etc for sprints (300-800m swim, 15 mi bike, 5k)?

I am not an expert (I have only done two sprints) so factor my experience in ... but on the sprints all I have done is gatorade on the bike and hit the aide station on the run.  I was fine.
By the way, I have yet to master the gel......I just haven't found one I can keep down.

I finally got my computer back last night, it has been in the shop for the last week.
I can now attach my pics (I say pics because without my husband and kids I would not be doing what I love to do today - triathlons)

For nutrition during a sprint, I may take 1 gu as I near the middle / end of the bike.  You prolly wont burn out your glucose storage in an hour-ish tri.  So a single gel pack and water as you feel you need it should do you fine.

I have a pre-race/taper question:

This coming Sunday (1 week) I have my first du this year. It's 5k 30k 5k.  I'm prepared, but how do you think I should structure my workouts for this week.  I work Tues/Thur and will prolly hit the treadmill on those days.

I'm no pro at planning, but this past week was pretty much an easy week of training.  I missed 3 days and had an easy ride yesterday.  I've done a couple of bricks recently.  I'm not nervous, but I do want to maximize my potential for the race.  Any suggestions for training this week?

Nothing you do this week will make you any fitter than you are today.  If it were me, I would focus on doing one short run-bike-run as if it were a race.  Lay out all your stuff, do a 1-2m run warm-up and then do something like a 1m/8m/.5m at race pace.  The rest of the stuff you do should be short and ez and throw in some swims and extra stretching if you are going crazy.

Just my two cents.

I agree with Suzy. Take it easy this week . Just do light workouts and practice the transition. DOn't go too long on the treadmill, I would say no more than a couple of miles on Thursday.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the great inspires and well wishes.  I had a great time.  I could have run faster but I think I have a stress fracture in my foot so I'm glad I didn't push it.  The water was cold. The race organizers said 62 but I don't think so.  However, it was a beautiful sunny day and it warmed up off the bike quickly.  There was some serious hardware out there.  Being so early in April I think most of the people there were using this as a warm-up race for the season. I mean seriously, who uses a full disc wheel for an olympic with a hilly bike course?  (well, except Tony Wink)  I'll post a full race report and pictures later this week when the race organizers post them.

Linda, beautiful pictures.  You look like Dara Torres!!

Jeremy,  I agee with most people on the taper week. Use any workouts this week to work through the nerves and stay loose.  Nice and easy.

Trevor,  awesome job on the 10K!  I am very proud of you.  Doesn't a race atmosphere get you extra pumped?!?!  I love it!

Suzy, I am sending you tons of good vibes for a fantastic BOSTON MARATHON!!  You are da woman!!!

Tracy - A stress fracture? I just read your log.  Is there a pinpoint spot that hurts when you touch it much more than anywhere else? did you try the jump test? I sure hope it is nothing more than an irritated tendon, but I agree it sounds like you need to get it looked at asap.

Unfortunately, I am not basking in anything more than the afterglow of a small chocolate shake (race ritual).  Feet are up on the sofa.  The marathon coincides with Patriot's Day which is tomorrow. If all goes according to plan, I will be done around this time tomorrow.  The gun goes off at 10:30am and it will be a while for me to get across the line.

Trevor--really nice job today.  What made you so much faster than in training?  bottle it!

First off, sorry I can't read. I noticed I had the date wrong on the race. Sorry. But still wishing you a happy afterglow
Yes there is a specific spot that hurts.  It started out the length of my 5th metatarsal ached, basically the length of the outside of my foot on the underside.  But I thought it was just from landing on a rock or something.  The pain started last week a day after my 11 mile run.  It was achy for 2 days and then went away.  I hadn't run on it between then and yesterday's race during which it started hurting during at mile 2 - a lot worse.  Now when I examine it I can pin point one exact area that hurts the most and it hurts even to stand on it. Not severe pain, but a pain that shouldn't be there.  Has anyone ever had a stress fracture?  Am I diagnosing this correct?

My first run in a week to test my bumb knee.  10 miler went well and feel I am back on track.  6 weeks to RnR San Diego!!

Tracy - Could be a bone bruise.  They hurt like heck, take forever to heel, doctor can never find anything.  It is hard to find a doctor that won't just tell you to stop running and if it is a stress fracture, a lot of times it won't show on an X-ray.  If you have a good sports doc, that would be my first stop.  If not, maybe ice, Motrin and soft trail running to see if it improves.  Injuries suck.

Trevor - I love the race atmosphere, brings out that inner "let's kick some a$$" voice!!  Congrats!

Suzy - Good Luck!!!  I will be watching Boston too tomorrow - exciting stuff.

Great Job everyone on your races.  Always nice to see people do PB and see the grit of people doing a last minute tri on a stress fracture..  Very impressive.

Tracy did you do anything special before and at the start of the race to adjust to the cold water?

Just got back from a visit to my hometown Cleveland, Oh.  Pretty relaxing weekend, didn't do to much in terms of training but did get in a run yesterday.  My wife and I also went to go see the Cavs kick the Piston's a$$..  It's great to see a game at your team's arena..   We went to Boston Garden around a month ago to see the Cavs vs Celtics game and it was great but much harder to enjoy when everyone is screaming at you vs with you!

LOL, busy weekend for me, didn't get much forum time in, I'll make up for it today and post a lotLaughing

Congrats Tracy, but make sure you get your foot checked out ASAP.

I doubt you will read this before the race Suzy but good luck.  I am recording it on my DVR this morning so I will be looking for you in the crowd.  (It's on Universal sports if anyone is interested at 9:30am EST)

Spent all day Saturday sherpa'ing for my wife doing her Olympic.  The water was 60 but didn't feel too bad when I walked around.  Probably helped that it was 80+ degrees outside.

This Sunday have my first Tri of the year, 300M pool swim, 18Mi bike, 2 mi run, I plan on seeing how close I can push myself to the puke point, and yes tracy I will have my aero helmet, power tap and disc wheel for that race, if you can't go fast might as well look fast...

The weekend after that we are going up to NJ for my first Time-Trial and the weekend after that we are going to Richmond to do the Capital to Capital Century,  busy few weeks.
