Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official ThreadIronman Racine 70.3 course water temperature today on July 10 was 65 degrees. I did a swim today trying to follow the course by swimming out from the very north end of the beach about 100 yards and then cut right down the beach. I have a sleveless suit, and the people that I swam with had sleeved 2XU suits. I got in with courage and it was freaking cold ![Surprised Surprised](../jscripts/tiny_mce3.3rc1/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-surprised.gif) on the feet. I then dove in under the water and what a shock to the system. Cold and very clear water and today it was super flat at 6:30 AM. I was surprised at the depth for most of the swim as I could stand up in most spots and even for a short time my hands could scrape the bottom (I'm not that big ) After about 5 minutes, my arms without the sleeves felt strangely warm, and then the swim was not too bad. I spent the time concentrating on breathing on both sides. Why? Because it seems to help with that dizzy feeling swimming in cold water and when you get out you dont look like some drunk crawling out to find your bike. You have to cross the beach about 150 yards to the transition area so it would be good to think about if you will run, walk, run slow when you celebrate getting out of the ice cooler. We rode slow at 17-18 about 30 miles of the course heading north and then to the end west. We got back at 9:30 and it was 79 degrees. Figure at someone that finishes the ride at 11, the temp was at 83 today. A forecast for a nice hot run for us northerners. Mark Bib 635 wave 3 |
