OK MG,

I am ready to pull the trigger on a bike frame and am a little nervous...don't want to screw up.  I am looking at the Planet x Exocet, which is their new frame.

http://www.planet-x-usa.com/c81/Pics-Pics--VIDEOS.aspx

My game plan is to get the frame and order the components on ebay and see if I can save some money, and I have a bud that has experience and tools to put it together.  The frame will be about 1100 dollars.

Do any of you have any thoughts or concerns that I may be overlooking?

Did you get a chance to see if it fit you right?  I think we're about the same size so should be good, but not sure how much the geometry has changed between the stealth and exocet.  I would check Slowtwitch before E-bay, prices are better in the forums normally.

What are you thinking about for wheels?  If you want to get nicer wheels those will be your biggest expense.

Good stuff that isn't expensive, all these parts you should be able to get for under $100.00 each, some much less.

Vision basebar and aerobars
Vision FSA cranks & BB or maybe you can find a good deal on a 7800 compact.
DA 7800 TT shifters
DA 7800 FD and RD, if you have a hard time finding the FD used just pick one up online new from Probikekit, ~35.00
Any Cassette
Seat?  Do you have one from previous bike?
Pedals? are you going to use them from previous bike?
Cables and housing

When you start looking at components let me know if you need help finding something.  You can obviously spend as much money as you want on each of those items, but you can usually find them used at a significant discount.

Thanks Tony

I have a message in to customer service to see how the frame geometries compare to see if there are different characteristics.

Good idea for looking on slowtwitch...I haven't done that.  I will probably use some pedals and a seat that I have and I am definitely going to shop hard on some of the components.  Some cosmetics aren't going to bother me, as I would like to cut back on the aesthetics for possibly some wheels.

Can you send me a message regarding your take on braze on deraileur or clamp on and any thoughts you may have regarding . I am understanding that shimano and sram interchange with each other...looking mostly at ultegra.  My though is to spend a little more money on the crank and rear deraileur if I need to.

In case you didn't know it already,

CHRIS LIETO IS THE MAN!

In case you missed this, check out this article in USA Today.  What a gutsy performance in the IMWC.

I like Lieto too and I wish he would win the WC one day, but the old addage still applies....there is no such thing as an awesome bike split and a suckola run.

True, but he had a great run last year and just got caught by a better runner in Crowie.

If you have some, let me know what you want for them...I can pick them up on my next trip to the ATL.  I was actually in atl yesterday and thought about us getting together sometime, but it was a pushed trip, since i did not want to stay overnight.
