Miker,
That must be nice having a coach..I have devised, developed, experimented and pursued my own plans for years.. I am apporaching all the Ironman training with the marathon mentality methods,,Lots of back to back swim bike run workouts combined with long ones in each....I am basicily training for a marathon as my goal along with strong swimming and cycling before the run...I can better predict my efforts in the swim and bike this way leading up to the run thus enabling me to run well.
I'll be looking for ya in Florida.

Universal Sports has video footage of Ironman Florida.  I can't access it here at work so I can't tell you how much footage is available. Check it out at.....

Kurt,
If you don't have access to a pool and ideally to a coach, what you are doing in the Totalgym is great! Keeping those muscles active and working out in horizontal position. Just keep in mind that swimming is the more technical of all three disciplines. Some compare swimming to golf or tennis, where technique is paramount. Good technique will make you more efficient in the water and help you preserve energy, particularly on a long event like an IM.
I can't wait also to jump back in open water!!!
Good luck on your training, keep it up!
I'll be doing my first tri race of the season in SC, Parris Island sprint triathlon. It's a fun event, great way to kick start the tri season.

kandk - 2011-02-19 9:06 AM Boxer,
I do all my swim training on a Totalgym for now until the water is warm enough in a lake nearby here in the midlands of SC...Amazing results on the machine..You can really zone in on your technique and endurance.  Practice the breathing as well..The only thing I don't do is move my legs like I would in the water

OK, probably a silly question.  I've only raced in HIM and shorter so it may be different.  But, if you go to 8:22 into the IMFL video listed above,  it looks like half the field is cutting inside the turn buoy.  Looks like they are turning left after going out from shore.  Heck many of them are cutting the next buoy too.

Is this an optical illusion or the normal course of events in a full Ironman?  Just curious.

I watched the video but not specifically looking for this.

Rule and key at IMFL is to hit the far two turn buoys on the outside/right side. You can swim either side of the other buoys on the straight aways.

My Feb totals are really bleak except for the run.
Bike:46m  - 12.2 Mi
Run:33h 48m 12s  - 197.12 Mi
Swim:30m  - 2600 Yd

I have really been focusing on the run because of doing my first marathon in MArch. I was really stoked to finish my second half marathon on Sun and get a PR! I busted my fastest time by 8 min(was a training run) and my only other half mary by +20 min!!Cant wait to get this marathon training done and get back to the bike and pool more reg.

I am 19 days away from my spring marathon so that was my focus as well as challenging myself to swimming 5 days a week which actually turned into 3-4...but I am glad I got back into that...now if I could just get my bike legs back....

Bike:4h 25m  - 23 Mi (I don't count miles when in spin class)
Run:18h 06m 43s  - 119.61 Mi
Swim:7h 24m 16s  - 19900 Yd

My totals aren't great, but they are better than January's. I guess I am concerned about starting the year off too hard and being burned out when it's getting closer to IMFL.
Each month I am building up until I start my 20 week plan in June.
February's totals:
Bike:6h 39m 31s  - 95.72 Mi
Run:5h 46m 21s  - 24.48 Mi
Swim:4h 15m 30s  - 10200 Yd

Another focus is weight loss. I am down 11 lbs. in my quest to lose 25 lbs.

Here are my Feb totals

I know how we can both get our bike time up -- you start from the Valley and I start in Austin, and we meet for Mexican food in South San Antonio! :-) Hope things get better soon!

You know that entertaining unofficial motivation station about mile out from T2/finish with the women who dress up in various costumes, flash folks, have whips and such? One of the women at the tri camp I attended this week is part of the that group. They are a big tri team from Memphis who one member own a house on the run course.

She will be back this year. She is strong triathlete who is super fun.
