Veteran 261 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread JoshKaptur - 2007-07-26 8:56 PM Josh 1.0 and 2.0 both bikeless now! My rear wheel literally fell apart on a ride tonight... I very nearly ate it BADLY! Had to carry my bike a little over a mile back to the house (barefoot) as the wheel was completely destroyed (wouldn't spin at all even with brakes released)... thank goodness it happened early on. From what I can tell, a small piece of the rim came out, caught on a brake pad... instantly locked my wheel and ripped my rim apart causing a LOUD sidewall blowout and several spokes to break loose. Able to come to a FAST skidding stop and unclip without incident. After assessing the damage (hey, now I can buy new wheels, and there doesn't appear to be derailler damage which I was worried about), I rode a buck forty-five on the stationary watching the tour... 1:45 on the stationary sucks no matter what's on TV. If that had happened up front I'm quite sure I would have done a major endo! Dang other Josh, that totally blows.. sorry to hear it ruined your rear wheel. However, I'm no longer bikeless. Well, to be specific, as of next Thursday I pick up my new beauty.. 2007 Sprint CAAD 9 Optimo 4 Frame: Aluminum Fork: Cannondale Slice Ultra Handlebar: Cannondale C3 w/Proflie T2 Alloy Clip-on Stem: Cannondale C4 Seatpost: Cannondale C2 Carbon Wrapped Saddle: Selle San Marco Ponza Shifters: Shimano 105 Front Derailleur: Shimano 105 Rear Derailleur: Shimano 105 Brakes: Cannondale C2 Cassette: Shimano 105 Chain: Shimano 105 Cranks: TruVativ Elita 2.2 Wheelset: Shimano WH-R550 Tires: Maxxis Fuse (newbike.jpg) Attachments ---------------- newbike.jpg (70KB - 23 downloads) |

Veteran 261 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread I know that most of what I'm seeing is just good natured trash talking, but I really hope that some of you are taking the time to remember when YOU were total newbies. For example, my first time riding a bike as an adult was only 6 months ago. Since then, I have continually increased my pace and distance, and am learning more daily about how to be more efficient on a bike. Heck, until 2 months ago I didn't even know what cadence really was. That being said, in next year's challenge I'll care about my miles versus yours, etc and so on. Josh |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread 1. BIENVENUE A PARIS Mark!!! Super, super, super work. Bearing a bouncing baby Barloboy, no less! How's the wife feeling? 2. Josh 1.0 ... tsk tsk, this is NOT the way to try to become like 2.0! I'm so sorry about the bike, but am very grateful you are safe and sound (if awfully bored on a stationary). You need some good fortune! I am opening tonight's fortune cookie for you ... here it is: "It takes a lot of time to achieve instant success." Odd fortune, but can't think of anyone who exemplifies that more than you, savage trainin' man! 3. Josh 2.0--I am chartreuse with envy over the bike. But ... after doggedly "doing time" on a hamster spinner, you deserve each millimeter of that gorgeous creation ... and every other wonderful thing that comes to you, for you shower all those around you with the selfsame blessings. AND TO ALL THE NAYSAYERS WHO JUST COULDN'T WORK THEIR TUSHIES HARD ENOUGH TO GET TO PARIS FIRST ... Nanny nanny boo boo. (insert Bronx cheer) |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Nobody thinks Robbie Hunter will win Stage 18 of the Tour tomorrow. I think they're wrong. I'm calling it right now--Hunter wins Stage 18 of the Tour de France. Yes, Boonen and Zabel (in that order) will be close behind for the same-time finish, but Hunter's hungry and his wheel will touch finish first. How's that for a pre-spoiler? |

Sandbaggers .... (Let's talk mileage here as well ........ I do believe I'll be well into the 500+ mile range when I'm done ......) Again, some of us have these things called lives. I just simply don't have the time to ride 500 miles in a week. This is my first tri and I'm not going to give up my life for it quite yet. That's a bit ridiculous. I think everyone here is putting out a great effort. |

I know it's supposed to be in good fun, but I DO get an elitist vibe around this place from a lot of people. I've been riding some sort of bike since I was a kid, but I only adopted the road bike a few months ago and you have to be honest, that it is VERY different. And it's hard. And it's challenging to do 40 miles in a few hours if you've never ridden like that before. Like any sport, we ALL start out as beginners, and I think a lot of people forget this. I've noticed this a lot with some of the cyclists I know. So maybe, next year I'll be a total a$$hole, but for now, I'm pretty danged proud of what I have accomplished so far. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread YEAH, We met our goals, had some insane bike wrecks...Did things we never thought we could achieve. That's what this crazy sport is all about, NOT boasting about who's got more miles on the saddle or what the PR's are in any of the splits. Yes, I want to impove on the various disciplines of this sport but what I really want to do is push MYSELF to new limits because ultimately the clock ticking is a race against MY times. The other people in the race serve as an incentive to "keep up with" or "can I take them?" as well as a surce of encouragement telling me to keep going when I want to quit. I know this is a challenge thread, but words of encouragement go a whole lot farther than insults/put downs. What this TEAM did was encourage each other to keep going in the face of a lot of obstacles. J |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread WELCOME TO PARIS CHRISSY!!!!! (You probably won't get to read this 'til next week, but enjoy your trip!) I love the smack talk. I love the guys 'n' gals who smack talk. I am honored that they are smack talking us because, get it, we are on the radar and movin' fast!!! It's love, I tell ya. The poor little dears ... they just haven't any other way of showing their affection . Me, personally ... I always just rest in the simple fact that I am a superior being, and smile beatifically for all. P.S. edit--Rick 'n' John ... chamoix. We get our chamoix in wads. This is, after all, Le Tour.

I must say regarding smack talk that without a doubt we started it, so I think it is only fair that we are getting it back and that they are going for the jugular. It's not elitist... they'd be encouraging us if I hadn't poo-ed in their pool and flicked them all off on page one. TriAya - can you confirm for me that I need one more ride to meet my goal. Just want to make sure we are on the same page number-wise. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread did a brick this morning, haven't done one in a while. wasn't pretty, my back hurt going into the run and I cut it short with walking breaks mixed in. my daughter went out with me to OW swim practice. She wore out after about 150-200 yards so I swam her back to shore and went back out. Basically went to get used to getting in/out of the wetsuit (anticipate COLD water in Ithaca next weekend) Can anyone say future triathlete with me? |
