Good luck Trevor!

I have no races or a bucket list. I would like to run without pain again someday. That is it.

Yesterday was tough. I found out that a close fraternity brother committed suicide two days ago. I went to school and graduated with him. He was a very positive and outgoing guy. Apparently he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a bicycling accident about a decade ago and was subject to mood swings ever since. I never saw him during the depths so this comes as quite a shock. I will miss him.

Hug your family today, you never know what tomorrow will bring.

I am really sorry for your loss.  It is those types of things that remind me how lucky we are to have good health.  And even though you are working through an injury, you still have good health, a great family and a bunch of MG'ers who want to see you succeed.

What she ^^^^ said ^^^^.  My thoughts are with you, Doug.  So sorry

My race bucket list is pretty short right now, just Boston and the brewery to brewery (http://www.harpoonb2b.com/), but I think it's bc I haven't heard of all the cool races yet. Linda's Tahoe race sounds awesome.

Doug- so sorry to hear about your friend. Tragic. I remind myself the days are short every time my kids ask me to do something I don't want to do.

Roni, Tony and Sam- glad you guys are enjoying yourselves. Love HI!

Trevor!!! Have a great race! Please remind us of your #. I don't have John's mad searching skills.

On the personal front, been on Cape Cod for a week of family time. Got to see my sister who lives in CA and her family. Then my mother landed in the hospital (gallstones and gall bladder removal). Chaotic to say the least. I think I need a vacation from my vacation.

Doug, very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.  Your thoughts are spot on: "Hug your family today, you never know what tomorrow will bring."

Trevor: good luck out there.  Looks like you are going to have a nice cool start, but a hot afternoon.

No racing for me......   Trevor-  Rock it!  We will all be with you in spirit (and waiting for you to finish to bust you on your transistion times!)   REPRESENT!!!  Suzy-  good luck with the big swim this weekend.  Hope I didn't miss anybody!

My Racing Bucket list-  I still need to get that full IM off the list.  Thinking 2014.  We will see how bike racing continues to treat me.  I would also love to do Escape from Alcatraz.  I don't know why, but that race has just peaked my interest for a long time.

Oh, and I actually RAN this morning!  Yup, really, I went for a run!  Ok, Kyla, that must mean its time for you to get that bike at least back to "inside" status!!!

Hee hee hee -- you gave me a panic there when you said you ran. Oh dear!!! My riding buddies and I have reconnected on email after our summer hiatus, and we are hatching plans. There may be some green in my logs after Labor Day (don't want to rush things, you know)!! Hope my arse can take it, ha ha! GREAT JOB, Dino!!!

When is the best time to do things?
Who are the most important ones? What is the right thing to do?

Sorry about your friend Doug, very sad. Suicide is the cruelest thing for the family and friends. Life's so precious and it's terrible that someone can get so desperate that they kill themselves.
The front page story here this week was about a local chef who had a program on national TV and 2 local catering businesses. Last year his house caught fire and his wife and 3 young daughters were killed. This happened on Boxing Day and they think a candle set fire to the Christmas decorations. The dad escaped but suffered burns to most of his body and was in an induced coma until just recently. Unbelievably sad.

On a brighter note, I'm still crap at cycling! I went out for a 2 hour ride this morning and just couldn't get into it so turned round and headed back to town. I haven't aborted a workout for a very long time.

I've had a cold this week and didn't sleep enough last night but I think it was just a mental thing. I get a bit fed up heading off on a ride knowing how much I suck!

On the way back I got caught up with the Brisbane Tri Squad who were up this weekend doing some training and all of a sudden I felt strong and managed to push harder and I started enjoying the ride. I think I'll have to join the tri club but their training doesn't really fit in with my schedule.

Very sorry to hear about your friend, Doug. And I like what you say about "tomorrow." I've had a few reminders this month to not go to the grave with life unused - not to say I should be spending each day doing crazy things like jumping out of airplanes, but just to enjoy each day and take advantage of its opportunities.

I had a minor scare yesterday - I was riding to work (I bike commute) and I got stung by something. I have a serious bee sting allergy (throat closes) and I couldn't tell what stung me, I could just see it's stinger. I pulled out the stinger and looked through my bag for the epi-pen, but I must have forgotten to transfer it back in that bag bc it wasn't in there. I just decided to ride to the firehouse (about 4 blocks) and get treated by the EMTs. I'm fine now, I have a big welt, rash and the lymph nodes in my neck are all swollen, but I'm fine. Of course, my first thought was "I hope this doesn't ruin my race on Sunday!" haha, priorities!

That is scary.  I am glad you're ok!  I have a friend who has been going through bee-shots for the last two years.  He has one year left and then supposedly he is bee-free.  He does carry an epi wherever he goes!  Good luck on Sunday!

Hawaii peeps--love the photo!!  We need to get another MG meet up in the works.

Trevor-knock yourself silly all the way to the finish line.

I had my last longer run today on a beautiful trail in the Northwoods.  Paul and I are heading home tonight.  Fingers crossed weather holds for my long swim tomorrow.  It doesn't look promising.

glad you're ok.  last sunday  i was the second rider to come up on a guy who was down.  he got stung by a bee and was in bad shape.  amazingly, the first rider to him was a physician.  i think we were were both there within a minute or so of it happening.  doc stayed on the hook with 911.  i did what i could to comfort the guy.  seemed like forever for ambulance to get there but in reality it was less than 5 minutes.   i saw the dude had a credit card and phone so i new his name.  i don't think he could figure out how i knew him while i was telling him he looked good and to hang in there.  i saw he had on wedding ring so i asked doc's wife to scroll through it and see if she could determine who his wife was.  once the paramedics were there and he was stable and we knew were they were taking him i asked her to make the call.  it was one of those spur of the moment things but i remember thinking if i was on the other end of the line i think it would be more comforting to hear a female voice.paramedics did something to him and he started looking better.  nothing else i could do so i split.

anyways... bee stings... damn!
