Meet at 13.1miles at 6pm Ish. JMoney - 2012-07-16 3:55 PM The battery life will last the bike and half the run. And that's all you'll need. You won't need or want to see your pace the back-end of the marathon dtoce - 2012-07-16 3:28 PM Jason I'm sure others will chime in, but I'd turn it on when you finish the bike and get your run bag. IM is all about the run pace and trying to not slow down. Yes, it'll take time for the satellites to lock onto it, but you can use that first mile to your advantage-it's downhill and you want to be going much slower than you will want to, don't even worry about what your pace is-keep it slow. Whatever my run pace is that first mile, I'll personally want to be slower. EN videos talk about your IM marathon pace being equal to your average usual long run pace. The goal for the first 5 miles of the run at LP should be that+30secs. So if you are running 9:30 miles on average for your LR in training (LR=16+ miles), then your pace should be 10 min miles. +30 seconds is 'trying to keep yourself slow' kind of slow. SUPER-easy. The race doesn't start until mile 18 of the run, according to them. My plan is to make it to mile 20 before I even consider going faster than 'easy' pace, because everything is going to get awfully hard on that second run loop. And I need enough energy to find 'roadkill'. GL
Yeah I agree with everything you said, my problem has been that ever since I got the Tri bike (March of this year), my legs feel so good off the bike that when I run I think I'm running slow but when I look down at my garmin I see I'm doing 7 min/miles. I know there is no way on this planet I can keep that pace, (I'm shooting for around 10 min/miles). I constantly watch the garmin when I first get off the bike to force myself to go slower. Most times the garmin picks up pretty quick but other times I've seen it take 5-10 minutes. At that rate I'll be done with my first mile already, and then I'll be dying at at mile 7. Im shooting for a 10:30 pace so I'll have time for a beer. I think we'll shuffle past the Lake Placid Brew Pub at the beginning of mirror lake drive twice...perfect place to stop and take in some carbs. Dream Chaser, Tank Boy, and some of the others will be done by then and can meet us there : ) |

At this point I hope I'll be out there suffering through a potentially warm marathon! According to my latest doctors appointment...absolutely nothing has changed. Kinda bummed, but at this point am doing my best to rest it the best I can and will definitely start the race. I figured my options are do what I can to heal before LP, attempt to finish and call that a season, or take time off now and hope I'm healed for Vegas. Since there's not guarantee it would be any more healed for Vegas, and the fact that I don't want to go into that race after losing tons of fitness trying to heal, I'm going to attempt Lake Placid. If I have to pack my boot and walk the marathon, then so be it...just kinda worried about how sweaty that would get if its warm out! So I guess I'll be the one that shows up to the swim on Friday morning with a giant boot on my leg.
What's your race #? I'm headed for a very long sunday and expect to have a long marathon. I will keep my eyes open for you. If you need comic relief hang with me and we can limp along together. I'm 2067. Dude, no worries on the long day. You will have plenty of company. Enjoy the journey! |

Nice and quiet right now. Be there tomorrow Bobby. Can't believe it's here. What a journey including the Quassy pre ride and race. It was freezing cold when we started this seven months ago. So many winter rides in the dark with blinking lights and cold gear. Best wishes for everyone. Travel safely. Can't wait to meet everyone Friday morning. Want to see cornick and chat. That happened to me one time when I was sitting at a bar. My neighbor called me and told me to rush home because a huge tree fell on my house. There was nothing I could do, so I had another drink then I came home to half my neighborhood in my front yard. Luckily I have a friend that is a lumberjack and they came out with cranes and lots of trucks the next day to move it. Sighhhh! For a moment I forgot about the swim!
Oh, by the way... if someone drops dead in front of me or falls over in the race during the run I know they are not allowed to accept help from the spectators, but if I decided to help them get up and hobble to the finish line or vice versa (if it was me) I was wandering if this was allowed. I thought I read another athlete can assist with out being DQ'd. Is this correct? Edited by SEADOCHA 2012-07-17 10:28 AM |

Chrissy got a spare tube in Kona from another racer a couple of years ago when she flatted. It is allowed. You can't get it from anyone else though. I forget who it was but a while back someone was winning an IM (I think Germany) and was handed a stein down the finish chute and he chugged it and was DQ'd. |
