Good evening (morning) all!

We're in San Antonio this evening. I have my Retul bike fitting tomorrow morning. Smile Then hubby and I head up to Austin for the rest of the week while the kids stay here with Grandpa John. Woohoo!!

I got my jogo in this evening. For a while today, I thought I was going to have to log my "nap." Embarassed

I hope to be busy in Austin this week riding, doing a little running, going to museums, shopping, and maybe taking in a movie or two that my husband would rather not suffer through. ("Great Gatsby," I hear you calling my name, if only you are still playing somewhere.)

Have fun in Austin and San Antonio!

Good day everyone. I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, and the Father's Day and the racing, for those that it applies to. I had to update my avi to be the best father I know, with my two girls from nearly 20 years ago.

Yanti, your new additions look as though they'll fit right in.

Felicia, I hope you enjoy the fitting, the week of kid free time, Austin, and whatever napping you may do.

My words for the week come from Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."

Good morning everyone!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend - for the pod papas - I hope you got spoiled, for the racers - I hope you crossed the finish line with a smile on your face, those on the injured list - I hope you are healing!

For everyone else - you were in my thoughts and I hope you are well!

Why does it not surprise me at all that Yanti's funny farm suddenly has two furry new additions?

Chris-- Not only had I did I have you in my brain as"Dan" but I also assumed Englewood was California.  When I saw your run down already this morning and it was 6:30 Central Time, i thought "Daaaaaaayuuuuum, someone gets it done early."

I'm going to try to keep my head outta my azz and not mess your stuff up any more.  Btw, the youtube link I gave you is totally SFW.  I'll give fair warning when it's not :)

Morning Manatees!!!!

I'm off to a great start for the week. I got my tukus out of bed at O-dark-hundred this morning and was rewarded with an empty pool! There is something soothing about having the whole pool to yourself. Then I topped off my swim with a nice 20 minute run.

I guess having a (forced) 3-day weekend was nice. I got all my domestic chores done Friday and Saturday and had Sunday to spend with DH, DS1 and my niece and her DH!

Hi manatees, and welcome Switch/Elesa, who will be known as Switch to me as well.  Sorry I've been a bit AWOL lately, but my life is a bit crazy in many different ways and from many different directions.  Boy, a lot happens in the pod when one falls something like 10 pages behind, and I hate not being able to comment on so much that could/should/would be commented on.  Please accept my humble apologies.

My craziness in a nutshell: a personal issue which has been going on since autumn will be reaching the pinnacle soon and will make my life extra challenging and stressful for a while but after 'the pinnacle' passes, things will improve a fair amount (sorry, a bit too personal to share in a public forum - very few of my closest friends even know).  It's been quite the roller coaster ride.  I have two Team Fight fundraising events happening in the next two weeks to which I've been devoting a lot of time and energy, wanting to get good results.  Best friend is going through an upheaval/relocation/needing to find a new job.  My sister is going through divorce which involves an upheaval/relocation and new living arrangements in PA rather than DE.

So these are the reasons/excuses my training has been lax lately.  I will try to do better, as workouts prove to be little islands of sanity.  My sister likes to joke when I tell her I was running.  She says, "What were you running from?"  I reply, "Life, but it always seems to catch back up to me when I stop."  Ha!

Morning TJ!

Having the pool all to yourself is such a nice feeling - it hardly ever happens for me, but when it does, I absolutely love it!  Then again, I also like "racing" the people in the lanes next to me - even if they have no idea that I'm trying to kick their butts.

What is this "domestic chores" you speak of?  I'm dreading my parents coming to visit Chicago in October as I'll have to do 3 days of non-stop cleaning so that my mom doesn't nag me about how un-clean the apartment is!

So, I am walking like Lucille Bluth on New Years.

The hike I did on Saturday was, without question, the hardest thing I have done in a long time.

I'm not sure if it was that you gain 4,100 ft in about 2.5 miles, the fact that I had done a challenging track workout beforehand, not being used to any weight-bearing exercise or the fact that we went VERY quickly. I had no idea how hard 35 lbs would be.

Anyway, I was ready to hack down the mailbox and throw it off a cliff when we got to the top. Luckily we had the foresight to bring beers with us, so I drank that and my anger subsided. Then I though, "OK the hard part is out of the way. We can just fly down the mountain now that it's all downhill."

WRONG!

Going down was almost MORE difficult. I think the DOMS had already set in and with each sketchy step down I felt like my quads were just going to give out.

Anyway, I survived, and despite all my b*tching, it was really beautiful.

Oh yeah, my shoes gave me such bad blisters I left them in the mailbox at the top and wore my running shoes back down (luckily I had brought them in my bag as "extra weight")

This photo (not mine) shows the terrain

Then at the top it's like this:

It does look like a beautiful spot - and I bet even better with a beer.

Have you ever heard of the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver?  http://www.grousemountain.com/grousegrind  The best part is that after climbing all the way up to the top, it's actually just the base of where the chair lifts are for skiing in the winter... but there's a $5 gondola to take you down.

The angry face on the mailbox says it all!

HA! So, I've taken that Gondola up AND down. Does that count? Smile

I don't know the mail box history but people place things in the box for other people to discover. It's pretty awesome. As I said, I left shoes (they are good shoes, just not good for me) and we took a Gonzaga Bulldogs t-shirt and a party noisemaker thing. Smile

A couple of pics from LITH - CoreDump, Whizzz, DH (Goggs) and me...

I wish we got to have better pace booty in the background for this one, but that's okay, pace booty is still pace booty!
