I'm the guy who crashed on a training ride and spent 4 days in the hospital. Yeah...I'm that guy. If you missed it you can go back and read my original sad post on page 139 at 5/31/11 at 2:02 AM) So how are you doing now? (Sounds like you are doing better) Good to see you lurking about. Doing well, but still have a long way to go. Tried to run briefly this past weekend..that was a mistake. Still significant discomfort (Honey Badger never admits to pain) as the collar bone and rib slowly knit back together. You would not believe the mental torture of having to sit this race out after 6 months of training, but it is what it is....I've come to accept it. Part of my self-imposed therapy is to follow this forum, so yes I have been reading all of your updates and experiencing your excitement vicariously. I thought about coming to CdA and spectating, but the wife and I decided against it and will instead visit Seattle and those environs that week. I was lucky enough to find someone to take over my CdA condo rental (thanks Matt!), but I did lose all of my IM Registration fee...missed the cutoff date by 5 days. Keep up the good work, everyone. I'm looking forward to following you onrace day. Randy Cantu

Dang - so 637 out of about 700 something women means I'm pretty old! |

That sucks so much. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get revenge next year. After reading this, I've been reminded once again to be super cautious. I even stopped bike commuting this week... sorry mother nature, not worth the risk. |

Glad you found a condo sublet Randy. Don't sweat the "refund" from IM - they would have kept all but $150 anyway. Good to see you in relatively good spirits.

Last year it was about 10:08 which is about 20 minutes fast than my goal time in a perfect race...what are you shooting for? thanks for checking back Randy.you get props for not ditching us! Gus-to tell the truth im not thinking time AT ALL. my goal is what i said. do the best i can on the day given the conditions and my training. whatever happens happens. TO ME, times and KQ thoughts are stupid considering all the variables involved. they are more likely to frustrate me than help me. I just want to control what i can control. I really just am tickled (stressed out too) to be out there competing. But anyone who knows me knows that I will be a complete twat after the race. thats my schtick.id even where a tutu for the right price but nobody seems interested. life's too serious to make this day any more serious than it already is. rock on everyone! |

I will pay beer...and I'm sure some other HBs would kick in some more beer. Of course, if we give you enough beer, you might don the tutu all on your own. |

Any suggestions on how to not catch pneumonia from your significant other? I personally would take the "Clown Fish" Approach. The Clown Fish lives in an Anemone and regularly scrubs himself with the stinging cells so that he does not get zapped by his own home. I think you should spend as much time as possible getting as close as you can to DW; making sure that she has everything she needs to feel better. In the end, you will gain some level of immunity and won't get sick before the race |
