So, after that track workout on Saturday, I am very aware of how difficult the 3K is going to be. I seriously think that something I need to work on is having a bit more of a competitive attitude and pushing myself a little harder. If that hike was any kind of indicator on what kind of pain I can tolerate when forced to.

Anyway, one of my teammates is also running the 3K. She is more experienced than me and races a touch faster than I, and trains MUCH faster than I do (if that makes sense.)

She said she thinks I am capable of keeping up with her in the 3K. She was planning on running it faster than I was. But her comments have me thinking maybe I should just tuck in behind her and try and hang on and push myself way out of my comfort zone. I mean, it's a 3K and means nothing other than it's something new I want to try. So who cares if I "fail"?

I bet your competitiveness is in there, oh yes, it's in there.

How much faster was your friend planning on running?  Tucking in behind her is, IMHO, a brilliant strategy, and one that very experienced runners would use.  So there.  Look at you:) Even if you could easily lead the pack, you don't want to, not until the very end.

At the end of the 3K if your legs feel like they're detached from your lower body and your running feels completely uncoordinated for the last 150m, you've run a good race.

I'm excited for you:)

*Edited because spending so much time on the internet is making me a terrible writer.  I swear I'm educated, but I keep effing up my your/you're and their/there/they'res.  Be patient with me pod.

Be careful throwing that word "nap" around the pod lately. Wink

Power nap?  Is there any other kind

"power nap" and "hot yoga"... along the same lines I think

Good evening (morning) all!

We're in San Antonio this evening. I have my Retul bike fitting tomorrow morning. Smile Then hubby and I head up to Austin for the rest of the week while the kids stay here with Grandpa John. Woohoo!!

I got my jogo in this evening. For a while today, I thought I was going to have to log my "nap." Embarassed

I hope to be busy in Austin this week riding, doing a little running, going to museums, shopping, and maybe taking in a movie or two that my husband would rather not suffer through. ("Great Gatsby," I hear you calling my name, if only you are still playing somewhere.)

"Have to"??? I say just add it in! Laughing

Sounds like a great week of relaxing and enjoying some no kids time. Enjoy every second! DH keeps talking about a trip to Austin, so I'm really looking forward to my first time going...someday.

I'm seriously going to start adding any "nap" to my work out log - I guess that would go under the tab of "sport"?

DH and I keep talking about moving to Austin in a couple of years... maybe.  Depends on if he would be able to get a transfer with his job as the last one wasn't the best situation. Regardless, I think a trip to Austin is going to be on the books for next year to go check it out!

Sport or Strength? heheDH mentioned Austin 70.3 in Oct, and one of his best friend's parents live there. Looks like a "racation" might be in the works.

I just got this email for a race up in Utah (Green River is about an hour north of Moab) and IT. SOUNDS. AWESOME!

Here is the skinny on the race and why you should join us!

  1. The City of Green River loves this event and is excited to have you in town!
  2. FAST downriver swim in the Green River! We spoke to the division of Natural Resources this week and the river is maintaing a high flow vs 2012, because of a release of water from Flaming Gorge.  What does this mean? - speedy swims!
  3. Scenic Bike Course with stunning views of the Book Cliffs during the bike course
  4. Fast, Flat run on the Green River Golf Course
  5. Killer Post race Food and Party with tons of giveaways, including a chance to win a trip to Kona in October.
  6. Proceeds of your entry are going to support Green River High School athletic department!
  7. Sweet Custom Gender specific shirts, sweet Age Group Awards, and uniquely designed finisher medals for everyone.
  8. Bragging rights about conquering the Green

Hi manatees, and welcome Switch/Elesa, who will be known as Switch to me as well.  Sorry I've been a bit AWOL lately, but my life is a bit crazy in many different ways and from many different directions.  Boy, a lot happens in the pod when one falls something like 10 pages behind, and I hate not being able to comment on so much that could/should/would be commented on.  Please accept my humble apologies.

My craziness in a nutshell: a personal issue which has been going on since autumn will be reaching the pinnacle soon and will make my life extra challenging and stressful for a while but after 'the pinnacle' passes, things will improve a fair amount (sorry, a bit too personal to share in a public forum - very few of my closest friends even know).  It's been quite the roller coaster ride.  I have two Team Fight fundraising events happening in the next two weeks to which I've been devoting a lot of time and energy, wanting to get good results.  Best friend is going through an upheaval/relocation/needing to find a new job.  My sister is going through divorce which involves an upheaval/relocation and new living arrangements in PA rather than DE.

So these are the reasons/excuses my training has been lax lately.  I will try to do better, as workouts prove to be little islands of sanity.  My sister likes to joke when I tell her I was running.  She says, "What were you running from?"  I reply, "Life, but it always seems to catch back up to me when I stop."  Ha!

awwww, Mel Stay strong (for yourself and others) and ride out this storm. Just think how much faster you're getting with all that running... and someday life won't be able to catch its breath

Hey Yanti....swim question for you.  I was paddling about in my back yard pool and wondered about your swim cords.  I know that they can give a hellacious workout-- my question is  Will the use of cords with less than pristine form only reinforce that same less than pristine form?  Can you hurt yourself using them with so-so swim form?  I just wondered if I should consider them at some point to use in my back yard.

Could someone tell what it is like to have a little free time to spend on myself?    I've forgotten.

Must find a current picture to post as my avatar.     I am so out of shape in that picture.

Cool     Excuse me whilst I take a power nap snooze.   I have to tutor a couple of kids who are taking calculus one this afternoon.

Be careful throwing that word "nap" around the pod lately. Wink

Power nap?  Is there any other kind

"power nap" and "hot yoga"... along the same lines I think

What does that say for endurance "swimming"?

Our pod is single-handily redefining multisport right now.  Is there a race this weekend?
How many hands? Better consult Ann-marie

Will that make everything All Right then? (yes, watching A.D. before)

Did you check out my swim video - here it is again if you missed it

And his notes.

Jo Notes:

Body position - Bending at the hips/waist a bit. Instead push your hips forward and squeeze your bum muscles a bit. Be tall in the water.

Head position - Looking a little too far forward. Extend neck and tuck chin back, have the back of your head out of the water. Imagine you're being measured how tall you are against a wall. Looking down or slightly forward.

Kick - Small, tight kick with your heels breaking the surface every few kicks. Not too much knee bend.

Pull - Right arm is pushing out wide.  Enter, lower hand slightly to  get into a strong catch position then pull through. Just need to make that slight change with your arm as you pull, the one where we made your inside part of your elbow hace more down than up to the sky.

Recovery and entry - Coming across head as you enter. In the recovery keep the movement going forward rather than swinging around

I really like how he phrased your corrections.  Gave a great example of what you *should* sense in the correction he made.  The head position one is really key for me.  I tend to hold my head too low and if I were to use that mental image of trying to measure taller I might manage to hold my head up more.

I like the other cues as well--clear with specific correction.  D@mn, I need a Brenton Piglet here!

We made it to Austin, which in this traffic and the way people drive, is a miracle.

I had my Retul fit this morning in San Antonio. We talked about my "soft tissues." LOL I was wondering how he was going to address it, and he did it so smoothly and professionally. I should have known. So I have a new saddle that will be "more kind" to my "soft tissues." Embarassed He tweaked all kinds of other things, too. He said being in aero should feel like I'm leaning with my elbows on the kitchen counter. That was our goal.

I'm hoping to ride tomorrow.

It's miserably hot and humid here. I'm trying to enjoy it. But, icky.
