Anyone use the bike shipping that we just got another email about? Was considering shipping the bike this time and only taking one car. Do you have to drop it off right after the race or can you drop it off a couple of days later. We are going up Thurs - Thurs so I was thinking of getting ae easy warm down ride in on Tues or Wed...just something to keep the legs from getting stiff after the race.

I did 110 mi at LP today, nice wx sunny and 80 degrees. My garmin edge had 5896 total climb, I did the standard loop and added Bonnieview Ave for the out and back, so it was a little short of IM distance. On my second loop, hit 46 mph on Keene hill and it was BADAZZ, no aero, but no braking either. I will still stay out of the way of the good bikers. That was my 3rd time going down the hill, 2 more tries at it before it's back to work. The more I do it, the more "comfortable" it is becoming. Took a dip in the water after my ride, cold but not bad, a few folks were out training in  wetsuits. Good luck out there with training and stay safe.

AdCo - 2010-06-02 2:38 PM Ok, so here's a question. How much climbing is there really? I've seen 6k and 4k? What is the general consensus.  I mean, I know it is all equal at the end, but slideshow the down's don't take as much'e effort as the up. unless I'm doing something wrong.

Over 3000ft per bike loop and what near 1500ft for the whole run.

So train wise.

Hmmm... so there is a fair amount of climbing at this Lake Placid Ironman distance event.  I did not know this.  Perhaps I should start training.....

I thought it was a Sprint.

Compared to an UltraMan it is!!

Just buy better race wheels and some calf sleeves and you'll be fine.

I was thinking a water rover for the swim, a full body skinsuit, two full disc wheels, a half dozen GU Roctanes for the bike, and a pair of them Newton Shoes and I'm assured a sub 11 Hours just by technology alone, right?

I'm thinking I'll break around 70 MPH on the Keene Decsent with this bad, bad boy.  And please, if you're doing less than 60 MPH, stay to the faaaar right.

I also got mine Ironman powerbar drink today as well.  FedEx was busy huh.  Kind of yummy tasting.

I am going to keep the box.  It's got the Ironman logo on it.

So for those of you VIP'ers that already got your PowerBar drinks (FedEx is slow in my neighborhood or something...grrrr)...was it an actual case of bottles or did they send you powder?

Showed up on my doorstep today as 12 bottles ( 20 oz each ).

Not a bad flavor.  I like it better than the old gatorade.  I like the new gatorade ( sans HFCS ) too.  So I think either one would work for me.

Non-IMLP related question.  I have been given the unique opportunity to chose my next IM and I wanted to see which one you'd chose.  I get to chose between Western Australia (Dec), New Zealand (March), or (Eastern) Australia (May).  All of these races are sold out so I'll be using Tri-Travel to get in.  Flying to each destination from Okinawa is very comparable.  I will be traveling with full family in tow, Wife, 3 small ones.

Where would you go?  I've made up my mind already but I'd like to see what you would do.

I've been to Western Australia (my brother lives near Perth) and NZ in last couple of years (and saw the M dot marks on the path around the lake in NZ) so I can comment on those 2 but not the eastern australia

I would do NZ.  The country is absolutely beautiful and small enough to see a good part of the north island during a 1-2week trip.  More to find to do with the family within easy driving reach.  W. Australia has things to see and do with family but after a short while it would end up on longer times in the car which can be difficult (not to mention more time consuming) with a family in tow.

By the way, for those who got the email can you let me know the email address that it came from so I can query please.

I never got an email and if I don't get some bottles in the next couple of days I want to contact them.  (I've checked I'm on the registered list - phew!)

Definitely new Zealand. That's the one race I hear people rave about the most and the race I one day want to do.

Why do they rave about it?  I've been wanting to do the Roth IM in Germany b/c I've heard the crowd support is unreal.

Hey Papson, I would do New Zealand. That's one of my dream "destination-IM" races, I've heard it's beautiful. Just swimming in the lake there would be fabulous!

They've been airing Ironman NewZealand 2010 on Universal Sports all month, and it looks like an awesome race with beautifull scenery and good crowd support.  Cameron Brown owns that race - 9 Wins in A Row!!
