Is this a great site of what....I sign up to be led by two Hottie Tri Women for the next few months and get in with a great group of people and in one page of posts you have discussions about:

  • Passing gas
  • A margarita recipe (lo-cal no less)
  • Discussion of whips
  • A hottie having trouble with her husband and her T.I.T.S.

I can't wait to see where this train takes us over the next few months...It should be quite a ride..or run...or swim (I hate swimming)

If I combined the margarita, whips and some T.I.T.S. of the traditional kind, maybe the trouble would pass.

I'm so impressed that you finished your race!! Way to go....very inspiring!!

I have decided to go back to a specific training plan. A little background for those whose are new around here. I did the 16-week sprint program and completed it the week of my first tir (3/17/08). Since then I have had a really hard time training. I have been running lots, but I'm very unorganized with my bike and swim workouts. I have until 7/12 to train for my next tri, so I'm going to start at week 7 of the 16-week plan. I think it will help me a lot. I hope so anyway.

Speaking only from my personal experience, I am a huge fan of training plans - I find that when I am following one, I am much more consistent

I'm sure it will help!

I almost forgot to post my positive note of the day.

I make a mean maragarita and sometimes I even make them for others. I'm just sayin'.....

True confessions - I must have missed something about a daily positive post - can you fill me in?

Hey, Manatees!

Great to hear from everyone!

Bethie love, I suppose I will announce the official May Manatee Challenge soon ... just for our group ... but in the meanwhile, Jeff's challenge as cheerleader/mascot is to say something nice about himself EVERY SINGLE DAY. He takes his job seriously. The rest of us may also feel free to do so whenever we please.

So I put together a really good day ... and I realize I don't have to give up on doing that now just because a couple things rattled me. Usually I'm "water off a duck's back" (even when the shmyte hits the fan) but things are bugging me today.

A dog I'm boarding ate my roommate's glasses, and I feel very badly about that.

Both VPs of my company (which is Spinning(R) as in THE Spinning) were at my Spinning class today (good) but one of them walked out (NOT good). Coulda been anything--maybe she wasn't feeling well or she remembered something she needed to do. Still, for some reason today, I'm taking things personally. I also STILL get nervous teaching to the people who created Spinning and/or are crusty roadies.

Oh, and the playlist I had would NOT play, so I had to go with a Plan B playlist and do some serious winging. I got a little rattled.

But rather than focus on what went wrong, here's what I'm going to do:

1. Offer my roommate a reimbursement for the glasses;

2. Tell myself that the VP ain't teaching the class;

3. Tell myself it isn't my fault the playlist wouldn't load, and I put on a terrific ride despite the circumstances.

Phew. I feel better now. That and another bowl of Grape Nuts should work wonders. I really do NOT want to go to the pool, though. Tired.

Yikes! Ha, I'm sorry, I know I'm supposed to be 100 percent "no worries, Yanti!" but that would freak me out. Not that I'm saying you have any reason to freak out! I'm sure you don't. I'm just saying I think that one is perfectly natural to feel rattled about. *g*

I haven't posted about the challenge at all, but I'm totally up for whatever sort of team challenge we end up with. I like challenges, although I haven't participated in one since December (I find the usual challenges aren't as useful for me when I'm on a strict training plan).

WHY HELLO ERIN!

First, thanks for the sympathy. I keep telling myself the nervousness is good and it will pass.

Second, congrats on finishing your race, and I am so glad you're feeling better!

Third, what a TIMELY post ... considering that you're a) going to kick my azz when you hear what the challenge is and b) then you're still gonna kick my azz at the challenge ...

THE MAY MANATEE CHALLENGE

I will re-post this several times and inspire everyone to join in. YOU set your own goals and YOU determine how to meet them ... they may be tri-related or not, or a combo. For example, Jeff is going to say something nice about himself here every day. Whatever you've already done in the month of May counts!

- Post in this thread what your goals are, how you'll meet them (follow the plan? Get on the bike twice a week?), and what would constitute reaching 2/3 of them.
- Everyone who gives this challenge a shot and puts something toward goals gets a pat on the back and can put something like "I put in a good effort in the May Manatee Challenge" (wording optional) in the signature line.
- People who reach 2/3 or more of their goals can declare themselves to have done GREAT in the challenge.
- If you make 100%, you are a WINNER in the Manatee challenge.

Whoever comes out the MOST ahead will get a prize and can say whatever he or she wants in the sig line!

There are NO PENALTIES.*

*with the exception of Erin and I. Bwah ha ha ... Erin, you can declare whatever you want as goals, but they must include SOME early morning workouts (hey, you already did a race--that counts! Did it start early?), as do mine (ARGH! NO! SAY IT AIN'T SO!)

Let's hope we both make or exceed all of our stated early morning workouts. But if one of us makes fewer (as a percentage) than the other ... then the other has to post in her sig line MY MENTOR (or MENTOREE) KICKED MY AZZ IN THE MAY MANATEE CHALLENGE AND I WILL GET MY AZZ OUT OF BED AND TRAIN.

This doesn't preclude either of us from ALSO posting "I did GREAT" in the challenge ... 'cause that would just look hilarious.

You are EVIL!!! And also, I am SO TOTALLY GOING TO KICK YOUR AZZ! (And if I have to cheat, so be it -- I've got a training partner! Who likes to work out in the morning! Ha!)

My goal: two morning workouts a week, for a total of nine for the month. Wow, I can't believe I'm committing to NINE morning workouts. But yeah, I've already got one down, plus a morning half mary on the 31st, so that's basically seven to go, heh.

I should also probably throw in a bike goal. Hm. I promise to get on my bike at least twice a week, so again, nine times for the month. Ha. That should be interesting.

My third goal: Come up with a new avatar. The old one disappeared a few weeks ago and haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

Go, Manatees! You are all going DOWN!

Hmmm ... I knew the timing was good ...

GOAL: 10 morning workouts (essentially the same as Erin--I have two races, just like her, but already have one morning workout done, defined for myself as anything started before 9 a.m.)

HOW TO MEET: I am planning my week's workouts in advance. I will bear it in mind to get to bed early (as in, before 1 a.m.)

WHAT IS 2/3: Making 7 or more morning workouts. Doesn't really matter ... as it looks like anything less than 10 will be TROUBLE for me!!!

I have no other goal here (I think that's punishment and challenge enough!!!) ... this is the area I struggle most with and therefore also benefit from. I already have SBR goals in the general BT May challenge and will pay my dues for them there.

Ha, in my enthusiasm for the challenge I forgot to answer all your requests, Yanti. I feel like I'm already falling behind! OK:

I've stated my goals.

How I will meet them: Do at least one morning workout every weekend, probably with my training buddy, and one morning workout during the week, before work. Through the week, I *will* get to bed by 1 a.m., to help me get up early. For the bike, any T.ITS counts, and I will get on that bike twice a week even if it's just to go grocery shopping. For the avatar, heh, mostly I have to decide if I want it to be a race pic of me, or something else.

What is two-thirds: For both the morning workouts and the bike, two-thirds is six workouts for the month. BUT I WILL NOT SETTLE FOR TWO-THIRDS. Um, I think with the avatar it's all-or-none.

As far as the veep walking out of my class--I'm trying to skew my perspective toward being concerned for her feelings and health, rather than making it about my perceived (and probably incorrectly perceived) shortcoming.

Yanti it is obvious why she left.  You rock so much she needed to get out of there and tell everyone else how things are going to be done from now on.  She wanted to spread the word right away before she forgot.

Yanti, I thought the veep might have ran off to make you a margarita and got sidetracked because it was so good.

I'm glad you gave me my challenge as I think it would take me all month just to figure it out.

On a side note, I got on my bike tonight for the first time in 6 weeks. Also, this is the first week in the last six that I've done all three disciplines. Crazy.

Yanti, def don't automatically think it's negative.  I was reading Oprah mag a while ago. There was an article by a lady telling her story.  She was about to give a BIG presentation to her boss.  He was crabby about something and she almost scrapped the idea, thinking he was mad at her or something like that.  She decided to go through the presentation, since she had worked on it and the 3 Day Avon Walk (or whatever it's called) was born.  Turns out the boss was crabby about an audit by the IRS.

Point it, you never know what's going on with the other person.

As far as goals, I need to think about it a bit more, for numbers and all.  I'm pretty good about sticking to a training plan, but I, like Mila, need some accountability as far as my sleep is concerned.

You know Yanti...she may have been having a bad day and forced herself to go to the class to start with...then seeing that you had everything under control and that you were handling the music issues just fine then maybe she thought..."hey, this chick has her act together..I have seen all I need to see...I am going to deal with this other crap stuff I need to handle."

For those of you that don't know I frickin hate swimming (sorry Beth) I don't particularly care for swimming (which is really odd since I used to be a life guard as a teenager and was a diver in college...I just have issues with swimming for distance)...but today I did my first 1000 yd. session (not continous but total)  I did 100 w/u then sets of 50 then finished with a 100.  I know for most of you guys that is just a warm up, but I feel real good that I accomplished this and I feel better each time I go..(Is that more positive Mother Beth???   )

It is good to know that there is someone else in this group who is not a total fish in the water. I started swimming about a year ago and stopped and started lessons about 3 4 5 times.  I finally decided I need to get over myself and embrace what nearly killed me.  The truth is I now LOVE to go swimming.  I am turtle slow and often have really bad days, but it is a challenge and accomplishment like none other for me......I hope I can say the same once I hit OW Surprised

I am ready to commit to my challenge......it is to have a healthier approach to eating on a consistent basis.  overall I have great eating habits, but once a race is over or a major stressor enters my life I fall off the wagon.

My goals:

1. Juice twice a week which for me is some combo of vegetables/fruits.

2. Avoid mindless eating at my computer or kitchen counter (e.g. cereal, chips, chocolate something) Monday-Thursday. Weigh things out if I have to to break the cycle. Hate that!

3. Give myself 5 minutes of thinking time before reach for a snack when I get home from wherever.  that should be enough time to determine if I am hungry or simply going for something out of habit.

Success is if I can do at least two of these things every single week.  My reward should be a better working body and maybe a little off the scale.

LOL!

Much better Steve!  I have an idea for your challenge

I think one of your goals should be to say something positive about swimming each time you go -

I used to tell myself how much I hated to run and how much I suck at it all the time.  Someone challenged me to stop doing that - reason being that if I kept reminding myself how much I hated it, that was what I was focusing on - it's that whole positive mental attitude thing (i know, i know - but hey, there is some truth to it)

I kind of frowned at the time, but took on the challenge -

I have to  be honest and say it has made a difference in my running workouts - true, I cannot honestly say I love to run - but I don't hate it nearly as much as I used to

{stepping down off of the soapbox now} Wink
