When I lived on the Navajo reservation, there used to be this one black dog on my route that would give me a run for my money on the bike.  I'd have to hit 28-30mph to drop it.  Rumor was, that dog killed sheep.  I wanted no part of him.

Usually, you can just raise your arm like you're about to throw a rock and they get scared.

Tomorrow's October 1st.  Four more hard weeks ahead people.

I'm ramping from current 17 hrs/wk to 22 hrs/wk.  Then take it easy into the race.

5 more hard weekends. I count the weekends, because weekdays aren't bad by comparison.

Do you guys start tapering that early?  This is my first IM and I was wondering what to do.  For my HIMs I think I only slowd down one week or maybe 1 1/2 weeks.   How much do you start decreasing? is it both, distance  and intensity or one at a time?

Thanks in advance ..

I'm planning on signing up for the race next year, if possible.  What training plans are all of you using?  Do you have coaches?  It'll be my first IM, so, I'd appreciate any insight.
Thanks.

I've been using the "competitive" plan from a book called Be Iron Fit. I loved the book; you should pick it up.

I'm no expert.  However, I think a taper, like training, is an individual thing.  Everybody responds differently.

Based on my experience with myself, I believe I respond better to a 3 week taper.  I think there are so many factors involved: age, gender, years of experience, quality of workouts, quantity of workouts, etc.  You have to experiment to find the magic formula for you.

That's great news.

Are you going to be our official water tester when they let people go back in?

Sure!

I'm planning on doing the OWS race on Nov 6th hosted by DCB adventures.  It'll be the first race in the lake since being filled.  I'll be sure to let you guys know the water condition.

I am also doing the competitive program from BeIronFit book for my first IM and it is pretty good.  If I was to do it again I would probably tweak it a little bit but overall I liked the book and the plan.  It is a 30 week program with 3 programs you can follow based on how much training time you have available.  The competitive program is the one requiring the most training time but is still manageable.

HAPPY MONDAY.  Who doesn't need good news on Monday morning?

MONDAY, Oct. 4

We didn't have a Friday Status Report for you because we were saving our great news for Monday morning, when you need it the most. Arizona Department of Water Resources has given Tempe permission to fill Tempe Town Lake. We will start this process this Friday, at about 7 a.m. Click to read the announcement and see the letter of permission. Everyone is welcome to join us at Boat Beach. We expect Town Lake to be completely full by Oct. 25, nearly a month before Ironman Arizona.

Had an awesome Tune Up HIM this weekend taking over 50 minutes off my PR time at this distance.  I guess the IM training is paying off.  Four heavy weekends coming up then it's taper time.

Hope everyone elses training is going well.  Can't wait to see you all there
