Elite 3072![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() san francisco | Subject: RE: Steve-'s Distance Endurance Group - CLOSEDann marie- i have Zoot tri shorts that are super comfy and dry quickly. i also have a pair of pearl izumi tri shorts but don't care as much for the pad, it doesn't dry as quickly. for the top, like tracy says, try it on, it sucks when stuff starts riding up, including shorts but especially tops, you don't want to get sunburn either i usually wear a sports bra under my tri top, i don't care for the built in bra thing. for your first tri, you don't really need the whole heart rate monitor thing, but may want to wear just a water resistant sports watch. i did that for my first tri and it was fine. |

How thick is the pad in those shorts Steve? They have them for women. This might be a good pair of shorts once I start doing HIMs. I don't like a thick pad. That is why I love my Danskins. Elite 3498![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Chicago | Subject: RE: Steve-'s Distance Endurance Group - CLOSEDnot thick. it's meant to be worn the entire race so it's thin and dries quickly. my arse hurt more in shorts with more padding so about 5 years ago I started wearing these oomph shorts and have never looked back. they are a little expensive but worth every single penny to me. yeah, you can put lots of stuff in them and that's another reason i like them because on my rides i don't like to have a bike bag on my bike so these short help to carry stuff i need in addition to my bike jersey. That little bottle holder is a great safety net. Only issue is even the women's are LONG, 8". With a 26" inseam that is not going to work for me. The would look like capri pants Suzy |

Expert 798![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kewaunee, WI | Subject: RE: Steve-'s Distance Endurance Group - CLOSEDThick pads are just awful on the arse. They remind me of God forbid maxi pads!! The reason I like the look of Steve's shorts is because they are long. I have big quads for a women. They are bigger than my husband's who is 6'2. I should be embarrassed about that, but I could take him easily. I think I am going to buy a pair for race season. Thanks for the tip Steve. Now, bike shoes and pedals. I wish a shop around here sold SIDI shoes, so I could try them on. SSMinnow - 2010-01-28 11:02 AM Hey Tracy I have actually seen SJ in those shorts and would love a pair for myself. I really need to buy a wind proof cycling jacket. It doesn't warm up here on lake michigan until June. Any recommendations?? I'm partial to Assos' stuff. They make great quality stuff. I also have a craft base layer with a windproof chest that I wear sometimes when cycling below 25. they aren't the cheapest on the block, but better than any cycling gear i've used to date. coloradocyclist.com carries a lot of assos' stuff. I particularly like the intermediate jersey because it's windproof and thin so I can layer it. on days that are sub 40 i usually wear fleece as base layer, then intermediate jersey, then a form fitting cycling jacket; which for me is usually my Northwestern Jacket by Hincapie Sportswear or some other warm but non-windproof cycling jacket. Perfect amount of padding and really like the feel of the compression the provied on the legs. Get the model Steve showed, as well, b/c having a gel bottle handy on the run is nice, and you can't feel it. I have thrown a full Fuel belt bottle in that back pouch and couldn't tell it was there. Nice features on those shorts. No help on the cycling clothes, though. I just go old school layering and it works for me. Although, I run in any temperature, I do not ride below 30. Just me. |

I spoke to them the first year they made the shorts and there was a little problem with the pockets as the gel flasks would eventually fall through the bottom since the holes were too big. I improvised for IM and just put duct tape around the flask to make it wider so it wouldn't fall through but after the race I emailed them about it and they did 2 things: (1) offered to fix the ones I had and (2) hook a brutha up with a new pair (which now had the right size holes) at a discount. they are the schiznit. Ooomph makes (used to make at least) modifications on-site so try to call them and see if they could shorten to 6" for you before they ship you your pair. |
