Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Well IMFL is currently the only race on m schedule. I am dropping otu of lonestar 70.3 because my hip is all jacked up from moving and because the race ismuch furthere away than I had thought and I don't get any vacation days for 6 months so I can't take a day off therefore with a 8:20 start I will most likely be getting on the road at 4pm for a 6 hour drive home and then have to run around and go to work in the am. All to have a crappy race where I know no one and be by myself. Sounds 100% NOT FUN and when you are as slow as i am it had to be fun. So I will stay home and be smart and get well for IMFL. Hope everyones training is going well |

Extreme Veteran 483 St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Spotty month for me, did manage to get into the water a few times, first since November Completed San Juan 70.3, personal best of 5:43 (fast course, great event, highly recommended), had a stellar bike which I didn't deserve, but paid for it during the first miles of the run, managed to regroup and finsih strongly. Took several days (too many) off. Still trying to decide if I'll do St Croix 70.3 on May 1st. Monthly totals:

Happy with my progress - had a week back in the UK which impacted bike mileage - but otherwise I feel like I'm building a good base. Some intensity work to start in April in preparation for Columbia Triathlon, but I also need to go longer in preparation for Eagleman. Really pleased with my running total - a monthly high for me (never managed more than 75 miles last year for Baltimore Half Mary and MiamiMan). Adrian |

Extreme Veteran 400 Douglasville | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi everyone.. I was signed up for Florida as my first IM...All excited...have a coach etc...THEN>>> A divorce Homelessness Illness Ugh... Sooo....too late to do the whole thing so i am regrouping.. My "New Plan" is to try and prepare for the swim and the bike...Do a half in September and happily watch ya'll as you take off for the hard part, the run...Even trying to get up to speed for the swim and bike will be tough but I think its a more realistic goal. I cried when i realized that doing the full just wasn't in the cards for me this year...i had even come down and volunteered so I could get my slot. But sometimes life gets in the way of triathlons... Instead of being sad...i am looking forward to swimming and biking and focusing on doing something that is possible...
Train Hard, Train Safe and APPRECIATE being able to train for those of us, who, for whatever reason, this year cant....

New user 39 Nashville | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I am sorry you are going through this rough patch. I would suggest that if you hit the bike cut off you can walk the marathon and still finish. What a feeling with all this you still reach that line. God Bless. |

Veteran 260 Hong Kong | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Life does get in the way of triathlons. March numbers abosolutely suck1 But you know what? I am so happy because I'm still able to train a little, race once in a while and still dream about becoming an Ironman. Las Sturday lost 2 friends and 2 other great coworkers on a terrible accident. That got in the way for EVERYTHING!!!!! I will still try my best, but if I can cross the finish line one second before midnight..... I'll be the happiest man alive at that moment. Lets appreciate being a part of this great lifestyle, no matter if your bike is made of steel or carbon or if you can run a sub 3:00 marathon or just walk it. It's a blessing to be part of this. Ok, here's my very humble March:

Expert 769 Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread It may be too early to ask this question, but I will ask anyway. I have been watching some YouTube videos about the swim start. As I look at them I try to figure out where I would want to seed myself. Based on pool swim time with no wetsuit, I figure I would finish somewhere around 1:20, which appears to be about average based on past years (I think average is 1:21). I'm hoping with 7 months to improve and with the aid of a wetsuit that I can get that down to 1:10 -1:15. What would/will your approach be? I feel that I have enough speed that I shouldn't place myself in the back, but I'm not fast enough to be in the front. I certainly don't want to be on the inside and it looks as if the people on the outside swim and extra 200-400 yards to get around the first buoy. Any suggestions/advice? |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread My advice is place yourself at the front...you are going to get swam over no matter where you start - front, middle or back, so why not start in the front? It would depend on the current as to where I would position myself on the shore. Sara McLarty - fastest female swimmer in triathlon - always positions herself to the outside and cuts across in a straight line..one option, unless it's a strong current going away from the buoys! Just my 2 cents. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread First two IMs I started way in the back due to fear and knowing I'm a slow swimmer. Third IM I started back of the middle close to the buoy line and was much more in the throng of people. Contact wasn't bad, I've had worse in sprint tris. The draft effect was awesome and I had fun during the swim. After a buoy or two I swam on the inside on the out, until the turn buoy then I moved over to the right and around it. Watch the current and test it out swimming the days before the race if you can same time of day as race. |
