I signed up to run the Colorado Relay with work.  I just found out my legs today--holy f-ing BS.  I'm dead!  My problem is that I am fat and got hit with the hardest legs.

--First leg is 8.1 miles long at over 9000'.  They are expecting me to run 8min/mile.

--Second leg is 5.24 miles and fairly flat so I am okay with that.

-Third leg within a 24 hour period---tired as and I am supposed to run 7.9 miles on a trail with many, many switch back.  The first 2 miles climb 1000' feet with grades between 6-9%.  I am supposed to run this in 1 hour 10 mins (My co-workers expect 9min/mile pace).  WTF!!!  Oh yeah--this leg starts at7800' and goes to almost 9000'--no oxygen to breath!

Don't get me wrong--I LOVE CHALLENGES LIKE THIS but still--I have to work with these people.  The mian culpret is the office manager--he gave himself VERY easy legs but is a VERY good runner.  Go figure.

Profiles below:

Holy hell!!!  If that were me, I'd start getting panic attacks, oh, right about NOW.

Sounds beautiful...if only they didn't have such speedy expectations for such climbing terrain...

probably not but it is only natural to "cheat" every now and again.  I have a whole day for indiscretions to try and keep myself "faithful" all week.  Damn diet is like having a relationship--okay, not quite a good analogy but in many ways it is a relationship with yourself.

I had my official "cheat meal" last night, it was soooo yummy!  Braised venison, roasted root veggies and mashed potatoes.  Ironic thing is that had I not been on such a restrictive meal program, I would have ordered Salmon and if i was served with mashed potatoes, I would have asked for double veggies instead.  Dessert was self serve frozen yogurt sundae, yum!

Probably gave himself the downhill legs. Ha. Usually there is a sort of team meeting during leg hand out time. 3 legs! in 24 hours! Awesome. I have done stuff like that before. It hurts so friggin bad. oh man does it hurt. ouch. The worse is the chaffing.

re: peanut butter:

The reason I started the bread only thing was because, in part, peanut butter sandwiches. I have a problem similar to others, I can very easily make one sandwich with about 1/4 cup peanut butter. Like I don't know for sure but it sure as hell is more than 1 tablespoon. Anyways, had a little peanut butter sandwich the other day, 1 tablespoon, took for ever to spread it out, but it actually was pretty good. So. PB & J here I come.

Oh, and threw a scoop of protein powder in my shake today and it does do wonders, felt much fuller this morning.

you are stronger than that little piece of food.  Put it down and no one has to get hurt!  I will do the ultimate sacrifice and eat it so you don't have to!

I think I read farther back in the thread that someone mentioned Racing Weight by Matt Fitzgerald? I am loosely following this because it's an easy way for me to make sure I am hitting the good food before the empty carbs. Anyways, I have a question for those who may know.... I manage to fit almost all my foods into the food categories but where do training foods such as gels, gatorade etc fit in? I'm not doing huge volume so the only time those come into play is on a long ride, but I also don't want to ignore those as they do add quite a bit to my daily totals. Appreciate any help on this one. I am not really counting calories, although I use an app to check my daily totals every now and again.

I think that is a good question and not really addressed in his book. There is the section on sport drinks and the such p 138-142 but he doesn't tie it in to his Diet Quality Score. He does mention a low carbo drink with protein has similar benifits as a hi carbo drink.

I can't help but think that he would probably advocate the use of less refined products, like those honey stingers and bars. Expensive but more natural products in it. Although, I suppose one would need to balance the nutrional value of the endurance food with the ability of the body to use it quickly.

I looked at our logs, out of curiousity what type of fuel are you using on your rides and runs?

That's what I was thinking Darren. For now, I don't include them as a "treat" in the DQS but I am sure they would qualify as that due to the sugar content

My fuel is pretty basic. Before long rides, I try to eat some breakfast, usually PBJ on toast. I use Gatorade as a drink, and esp this time of year I prefer to drink the calories as it is so hot here. The only other thing I use are Power Bar or Clif bars.  I did today's ride on a small breakfast and only water and Gatorade on the ride. I workout very early this time of year so there's no need for any fuel before/during most workouts under 2 hours

I blew it today.  Had a race so ate race food for that and then crossed the finish line and sunk my teeth in to a YUMMY Hero burger.  Then on the drive back family grabbed fast food - I abstained - but then polished off my child's leftovers...bad...bad!  Came home and inhaled dim sum.  I think I'm finally done eating   Thank god I raced today!!  Hopefully it will result in maintenance vs. gain!  WEIRDEST tri swim EVER!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!

I made this yommy pizza tonight, thanks to a BT friend for sharing the recipe:

Pesto/ Chicken pizza

storebought whole wheat crust (cause I didn't have time to make one)

1 C basil pesto

1C diced cooked chicken

1C low fat pizza cheese mixture

supposed to have a couple tablespoons pine nuts but I couldn't find a small jar of them and was NOT buying a big jar for $15!!

bake 12 min at 450.

tastes like a cheat meal but it's still healthy.

That sounds great. I'll have to substitute the chicken for tofu, but still sounds delish.
