New user 23 Deerfield | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread This is my first race with "race officials." In the past, how strict have they been with the drafting calls on the bike? I read that they are ready and willing to hand out drafting/passing calls all day long, but then I've heard that on race day, there are few officials to be found. I plan on doing my best to adhere to the drafting/passing rules. I'm not going to be breaking any land speed records out there, and I'd like to enjoy the experience as much as possible, so do I need to be innately worried about maintaining my distances? Did my last large workout on the free day today. Able to get in a great swim on a mirror calm (and much warmer than Racine) Lake Michigan on the North Shore (IL). Bring on the taper! 11 days! |

Member 13 Amherstburg | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread I've done a couple of these and I've seen draft convoys all day long. I've never seen anyone get stopped. I would presume that they are looking at the pro division mainly. Just go out and ride and dont worry too much about it. |

They'll be able to track you on the ironman website. It should give them your splits after swim, T1, bike, T2 and finish. |

Member 18 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread Any advice here... I been doing the 20 week plan for Racine. I have completed 2 sprints (treating them as training sessions) and today, just ran a 4.5 race. Granted, it was REALLY HOT, but I seem to be getting slower in the run. I took off time from both tri's but not a ton. Taper starts this week. Please tell me if it's just age catching up to me or what? I'm beginning to worry about what's going to happen in Racine. Thanks Jennifer |

7 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread Hi Jennifer, Heat can have a significant impact on times. Age always catches up with us, but where we might lose some speed, we can make up in technique and/or strategies. (that is how I justify my increase in times from 35 to 44). what will happen in Racine? You will do your best and have an incredible experience. best of luck. -pat |

On a different note, anybody know of wi-fi hotspots near the transition area? |

Did they email out/post anything? Thanks all. Super psyched. There is an Athlete Guidebook on the main Racine 70.3 website. It contains all the information you need. http://ironmanracine.com/files/2010/11/2012_RACINE-AG-7.2-FINAL.pdf |

Regular 99 Bartlett, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread Any recommendations for a place for lunch on Saturday? Nothing fancy. Location doesn't matter too much - I'll be coming from Madison but haven't picked a route yet. Considering the "scenic" route through the country roads - any of those little towns have a decent place to eat? Downtown Racine or vicinity is fine too as I'll probably be eating prior to checking in at the civic center. One other question - is there anything earth shattering that gets discussed during the Athlete Race Briefing that isn't in the guide or that hasn't been talked about on BT? |

2 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread You could try SALUTE's right in downtown Racine, otherwise out on highway 20 is MIKE & ANGELO's, if you want something you might be familiar with there is an OLIVE GARDEN on the corner of Hwy 11 and HWY 31. Good Luck! |

2 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread Jennifer, trust your taper plan and stay extra hydrated, try a weigh in weigh out system. Weigh yourself before your workout, then again after. You should be drinking enough water to recover the difference in weight loss, if you started at 125 and came in at 122, drink water until you are back to 125. I also recommend keeping track of your sodium intake, when it's this hot you need to replenish your sodium too, get low on sodium levels and you will slow down. I simply eat pretzels, their healthy and good for recovering sodium. Don't try to change anything in your workouts and don't over stress. If you have a plan, the very best thing you can do is stick to it. Do that and you should be ready to rock on race day. You're going to do awesome, and don't worry! Best of luck. |

They do that? just went out to BT Muncie forum: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... Looks like it was shortened. This will be my 4th time doing Racine (twice as Spirit of Racine)...it has yet to be shortened. One year the water was 51 degrees and they pulled the buoys in because of fog...but the race went on. Last year, the air temps were in the mid-90's and (if I were to guess) the heat index well over 100. Right now, it looks like Racine will be a go for the 1/2 IM distances. |

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Racine : Official Thread The water temp will depend on which way the wind has been blowing the few days before the race. If the wind is out of the West then it will be cold. It will essentially push the warmer top water towards Michigan and churn up the colder water from deeper in the lake. If the wind stays out of the South or East, it will be warmer. BTW, warmer is relative. I think the warmest I've ever swam in that lake was about 65-66 degrees. I'm going to expect mid 50's and be happy if it is warmer. |

One other question - is there anything earth shattering that gets discussed during the Athlete Race Briefing that isn't in the guide or that hasn't been talked about on BT? I have found, with most Briefings, that nothing new is talked about unless something new happens. Weather change, road conditions, something new and unexpected happened out on the course, etc. Other than that, it is more a re-hash of what is in the athlete guide and also an opportunity for those that are nervous to ask questions and gain confidence. That is just my experience. |
