I'm 58 this will be my 5th IM attempt and probably my last go at it. I've not been in training mode for the past couple of years so this is a challenge. Swimming is going swimmingly, biking is just starting to come back but slowly, and running is a joke. And I thought I would have lost this extra 20 lbs in the six months from sign up, but it is still hanging around..... This is to just let you know that there will be someone out there slower than you and if there are any Bop's out there, feel free to get in touch. I am a proud member of the BOP I'm not fast I am stubborn which you need a lot of to complete an IM My running is a joke and has been for years. keep at it. |

Veteran 593 Mandeville | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Previously, I had always volunteered for Body Marking, this year we are going to try something different. We volunteered for the registration tent on Sunday. It means our Saturday is completely free to do whatever we want and Sunday we get to skip the same line the other volunteers have to stand in. I'm still waiting for the catch. |

All athletes will have the traditional 17 hours to complete the entire event (subject to intermediate cutoffs). |

As someone who needs all of the 17 hours they give you I do not want to have to stress about how early I need to go stand in line to get 17 hours |

Hope they don't put all the women in the back of the bus like usual. Personally I would rather duke it out. |

Veteran 250 Cape Coral, FL , Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread What I see is people just saying they are faster then they are just to get out. Kinda like marathons that put you in a corral when they ask your time. There is people saying they run a 3:25 lets say not to start in the 4:30++ where they should start, everyone has seen them the people you pass at mille 2 and they walking. I mean I dont really care how it starts, I just dont think its gonna make that much of a difference. Maybe make some people feel better I guess |

For the last two months my dad has been battling / living with lung cancer and he passed a week ago. I basically took off and lived with him for the last two months. It was a true blessing getting to spend the time with him and he was up and about until the last couple of days, so we had some good time together. All that said, at this point I've got no base. No swim, no bike, no run. 25 weeks till IMFL. I think, if I'm patient and don't hurt myself trying to get in a hurry that I can make it to the start line. Maybe not fast, but at least ready to do the distance. Crossing my fingers. Haven't been this out of shape in years. I think I'm back in the game. Throwdown, have you finished an IM? |

Veteran 275 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Anyone racing and volunteering this year? I am also volunteering on Wednesday in the VIP area. My Husband is volunteering on Sunday and we wanted the opportunity to both attend the volunteer banquet. Plus I really liked volunteering last year and figured why not give back. Our families will be in town and our son will be 14 months on race day so we figured why not take advantace of a quasi "date" night at the banquet! LOL |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread At the end of this week we'll be 23 weeks out from IMFL ! Almost time for those 20 week training programs to kick in. Of course if you're racing this summer, you're probably already well on your way. I'm just beginning to build a little base. A couple of consistent, although short, weeks of training and I'm thinking maybe this thing will work. My scheduled 1/2 is in one month. I'm really not sure that running 13 miles in a month is a good idea. My long run this week was four miles. But still I should be able to get there in 23 weeks as long as I don't do something stupid. So who's following a 20 week program? And are you ready to start? |
