I got out in the pre-dawn cold this morning (nothing new there as almost all my runs are pre-dawn!) and did 2.8 miles. I've been obsessing over my speed, or lack thereof, but I've now decided to concentrate on getting my distance up and then let the speed improve later.

Great pics and congrats on the 3rd place finish! I see that you were up here in my neck of the woods for the Marine Corps Marathon. Next time you are up in the DC area please let me know and maybe we can get together to meet.

Nice pictures

I like to go back to the bmi stuff I am a bit confussed. I went and got my sheets out from my doctor and looked at mine it is 27 % I am A lot bigger then any one else here so I went and did it on some site and it says 41 %. So I want know how this works I assume my doctors are right but why would they have such a lower #

I have not worked out in 2 days cause I pushed it to hard with the run but going to try to get back at it today.

Are you talking about BMI or body fat percentage? BMI usually isn't expressed as a percentage. Are you willing to tell us your height and weight?

BTW, I'm willing to bet that you are actually smaller than most of us. I'm around 5'5" and about 158 pounds. My calculated BMI is around 26.

Since BMI only focuses on height and weight it tends to overestimate for athletes. This is because muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat!

Hey Amy. Using an online BMI calculator, you are 42.9. My BMI was 36 when I started and now it's around 28, so you CAN bring the number down. :-) Just keep on doing what you're doing. Nice work!

How is everyone this morning? I made a few little adjustments to my bike position last night based on the recommendation of some iron-folk. It feels really fast. Granted, I was in my kitchen, leaning against the counter, but still. I was able to pretend I was fast. The biggest difference is that I'm able to get in a more aggresive position because my belly is smaller and not in the way as much. Haha.

I ate a ton of food yesterday. I have no idea why, but no matter how much I ate I just couldn't get full. Does anyone else have days like that? I have a new strategy today with lots of small snacks consisting of nuts, fiberous foods, etc. I hope it works!

Judging by your clothing size it sounds like you may have a lot of muscle and little fat. As I mentioned, muscle weighs more than fat for a given volume, so BMI will be mistakenly high. What's your waist size?

Good point Nicole!!! Even though I rely on weight milestones to monitor my progress, body fat and body measurements are probably even better tools.

I have so much freakin energy this morning, I don't know what to do with myself. Eeeee!!!!

Amy, I have a feeling that you are super-hero strong and could whoop my booty with one arm and both legs tied behind your back. Once you get into your workout routine, you'll be unstoppable!

Yes! I do have days like that! The hardest thing for me to learn has been to get right back to my plan after overeating. I have a tendency to say to myself " Oh well, I've blown it, I might as well eat everything now and get back to it next week, month, etc". It was that kind of thinking that got me up to 175 lbs at only 5'2". So, I've learned that on occasion I am going to overeat, I just don't let it continue on and on. I'm actually struggling with this a bit now being on the road and eating out alot. But, I'm going to do better today . Thanks for the inspiration Sarah!

Yes, it does sound like you are pretty muscular Amy. As Nicole mentioned before BMI charts don't account for muscle/fat ratio, so are not as accurate if you have alot of muscle.

So, where is everyone today?

I did my second session riding the rollers. I'm definitely improving; I was doing 10-20 minute blocks and I only fell over twice (when I got hopelessly caught up on the side of the roller). Although I can ride one handed well enough to shake out the other hand or wipe my brow I didn't try drinking while riding; that's part of why I was stopping every 10-20 minutes.

Riding the rollers is a far harder workout than riding the trainer stand, even if I'm not riding as fast or as far! Hopefully this will pay off on the road!

I am just so excited by today's swim. It was awesome! I did a ladder down from 600m to 100m. It's only the second time I've done 2100m in a session, but the amazing thing is that I did the entire session at a pace just under 2 minutes per 100m! I did the final 100m in 1:47! Except for this final set I never felt like I was pushing it very hard. For me, this is huge!
