I was just following the forum and knew all you went through before the race so I just had to follow you and cheer you on! I was worried and I knew something happened or the tracker was messed up. I'm doing Wisconsin this year but am signed up for Placid next year. I'm glad you knew to stop and glad that they sent you to a hospital. Seems like they need to work on bedside manner huh? I can't believe you were treated like that. Make sure you take care of yourself. Maybe they are wrong?? Good luck at your appt. I'll be praying for you! You will be able to totally ROCK Placid next year I'm sure!!!! Thanks, I plan on taking the bad award from Cornick in 2013!!! |

12:45:19 and I can start my debrief of the race. I have lots to think about, work on and remember. I am in for Lake Tahoe in September of next year; for now it will be a little time off, some house repair and TRX in my future.
The Good I am an Ironman I nailed my swim (1:05:04) A magic fairy struck and said you will be entirely comfortable in aero position. Not sure why, but it just fell into place. Aero is something I struggle with...
The Bad My transitions times were a joke. I will never swim in a swimsuit again. Getting into bike gear, while hot, rushed and already pumped was a bad, bad idea. Cramping on the bike from mile 10 from gas. Not sure from what but was manageable. If you were near me on the run, I was the unapologetic tooter throughout the run. I did the first 1/2 of the run doing my pace with 80 percent run and 20 walk. Reverse that for the 2nd half. I know with better training I can be below 12 hours, perhaps with more heat training.
The ugly Nailed a pot hole at around mile 50 while in aero position and cruised right through without an accident. But actually bent the bars and had to stop to move them back into place so I could continue to be in aero the rest of the race. All worked out but will need to see my LBS to see if my wheels are still true. I never wish to eat chomps again. Am going to investigate Spiz or other options for calories on the ride. My nutrition is not dialed in yet and it shows. Spent a little time in the medical tent. Lovely people, never wish to be there again. All my vitals were normal, had dropped 11 pounds in the race and I believe I was overheated + low sodium.
Like I said - lots to think about, learn from, analyze and incorporate into my campaign strategy for the 2013. This took me two+ years because like Cornick, I also blew out my shoulder around the same time last year and could not race. I was signed up for this years ASAP and went back to work. Thanks to my wife for putting up with this crazy hobby and being my support team. It's not about the swim trunks, the bike or the running shoes (to paraphrase a popular book!) Safe training and keep smiling! t |

I can say with all certainty that not once did anyone near me or within earshot say anytging negative or comment that you may have bitten off more than you can chew. I think the overall feeling of the crowd near me was disappointment for you. You have a good attitude - be thankful tgat this was discovered now. |

Thought about stopping but decided to suck it up and I am so glad I did. Wonderful experience. Congratulations to all of you competed, regardless of whether or not you finished. Regular 304 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread I'm just checking in to let you know that I got out of the whole adventure with a smile. Race report and blog posts with reflections to follow later this week.Quick thoughts, (from somewhere in New Jersey), Several of you were sick or injured or off your game. That is hard. But, after participating in this forum, watching and listening to you for a year, and seeing the spectacle of yesterday, I know that you all are Ironmen...some of you have a finisher photo and some of you have it inside waiting to come out. Maybe next year. Keep at it. The smiles, kind words, a prayer or two on my behalf, and so many kindnesses by this community were fabulous. Thank you. Mim sure I didn't acknowledge or notice even half of them. You were sustaining. I tried to do the same but couldn't think of names, so if you saw a goofy guy dancing past every area that had music on the run, it was me trying to keep us all sane. Since I cannot run with speed, I ran with some funky attitude. The note from Doug, seeing Bobby Sunday night but not being able to talk, makes me really eager to see the thread for IMPL 13 to catch up with all my favorite BTers. I'll try to get PMs out to you all, and apologize if I take a while. I made it. 11:45:01. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the help. I made some mistakes, did a couple of things that were a bit nutty and out of character, and struggled through a dark dark spot around mile 16 of the run to finish with my head up and a smile.Onward! (I also registered for next year.) |

Member 75 Huntley, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Congrats to everyone! I finished around 13:05 ish I think. I was so severely dehydrated and I knew I was in trouble when the last time I urinated was at 9 am. And I couldn't pee if I wanted to. Basically, at the start of renal failure. They gave me 2 IVs and I finally was able to go at 11 pm!Regardless, my swim was awesome (:57), bike was pretty solid minus a few mishaps, and my run went to hell (I knew something was wrong) So I basically ran/walked the whole thing. But it was an awesome first time experience!! Give me a week, then I will probably want to do another Congrats again to everyone! |

Extreme Veteran 763 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Congrats to all. I had an awesome day. Things went absolutely perfect for me. No dark spaces. I was able the run the whole marathon and stuck to my slow and steady plan for the whole day. You can say what you want about WTC and the money making machine, but IMLP is a top notch event that has energy to spare. I enjoyed everything about the weekend. Kevin |

Member 102 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread MADE IT!! I was about 2 hours slower than I thought I was going to be which scared my family a bit but I knew something was wrong about mile 60 of the bike when my body felt great, but I was really groggy and tired... I was taking gu's with caffeine but was just flushing it out with fluids. (peed about 5 times on the bike and 7 times on the run) hydration was not an issue obviously but I had a real problem getting in calories. Nothing would go down. Ended up walking all the aid stations and really hurting around mile 18 on the run. Lucky for me I had Jim right next to me and we worked it for a while together!(Thanks!) After the race I gave my family a scare as I got on the bus to go to the shuttle down to where we parked I got lightheaded, dizzy, really tingly, and then "fell asleep". Woke up covered in blankets in the parking lot with medical looking at me. Turns out my body said enough was enough and was demanding some calories. I didn't really notice the big pool of vomit I was laying in. They said I hyper ventilated which caused the blackout but when they weighed me I was down 8 pounds but because I was hydrated they just force fed me pizza, bananas and Gatorade.(felt like a little kid) I am gonna talk to a few friends and maybe a doctor about it and try and get my nutrition a little more dialed in cause I am signed up for 2013!! lets see if we can't take a couple hours off my time! Great first IRONMAN! |

Pro 5755 | Subject: RE: Ironman Lake Placid : Official Thread Congrats to all the finishers. I was a volunteer and did swim in security at the oval, bike in at the split for finish/second loop, and boathouse aid until midnight. I hope thy fix the carpet at you get onto the oval, I saw about 30 people wipe out, even though I'm hoarse from yelling 'watch your step.'You are all so inspirational. I'm registered for 2013. |

Veteran 148 | Subject: PHOTOS! Are you willing to share
If you are willing to share photos? I have created a space to upload the photos http://www.yogile.com/imlp2012/41m/share/?vt=R2TFoC9 Once people upload photos, I will move them into a space where anyone can download them. The above link is hopefully simple. You won't need an account to upload. I will collect the photos from the uploads and make them available through a Google Album. Any questions you can reach me at [email protected]. I will keep the Google Album up for basically forever. My thoughts are people have all types of photos from the week (the race, the country side, people, action, etc.) and we could all benefit from the shot we didn't get. If you want to upload images of you, fine by me. I will make available anything from IMLP2012. best, t best, thomas |

Regular 124 | Subject: RE: PHOTOS! Are you willing to share Congratulations - appears that most of you are not back to work yet given the relativley small hnumber of posts. Back at work - arh. Only have short trip to LP this year for the race (cause the big trip to LP is 4 weeks tomorrow when we go up for a week for our wedding). I have promised my fiance no bike - but i`m alowed to swim and run - at a nice relaxed pace. 11.56 this year. 10min slower than last year but i did swim 4mins quicker. 1.16min which is bizzar considering my first swim was 17days before the race. Slower bike and run than last year. I`m in for next year. Lastly - and importantly - thank you to all the volunteers. What a fantastic group there was this year. |

Awesome job. Thanks! Despite my screenname, I usually DON'T have pink (or any other crazy color) hair. I did it for charity - people got to vote on a haircolor as they donated to our local animal shelter and the color that "raised" the most money would be what I dyed it. It DID get a lot of comments through the day though. |
