In the cool news category... this is what we've been doing all the patents for at work lately - which I happen to think is VERY cool!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcw6j-QWGMo

So cool! BA ROONS! Who doesn't ruv those?

I had heard about this, and also about the balloon project regarding global warming. Fascinating stuff. Only related by balloon involvement, but still.

At first I was all "why the heck are they calling it 'Project Loon'?  Are they all crazy maniacs or not right in the head or something?"  Yeah, today isn't a smart day for me.  Undecided

And you from a country where EVERYBODY wants loonies and twonies ...

I know!  I'm a disgrace to my country... I'll have to wrestle a moose or eat a massive helping of poutine to try and get back in the good graces.

Salty and I, being such givers, would assist you out of your disgrace with that poutine.

Also, I think Salty is depressed over the loss of the "I'm my own grandpa" type scenario where she would be calling me Mom. She needs some grease on grease on grease to get over it and also prepare for her track meet tomorrow

I'm still hung up on the beignets Embarassed I luff fried bread!!!!!!! Donuts... beignets... sopapillas....

WHAT THE HELLZ IS THE MATTER WITH YOU PEOPLE!

Am I the only one trying to hit race weight this season?  You guys are killing me. *whimpering"

I blame the waitress!!!  Complete and utter evil wrapped up in a cute and innocent-looking girl.  SHE'S the one to blame for the beignets!

When it came time to do up the onesie, I was truly scared that it wasn't going to do up after the pure gluttony the night before.  I had actually been feeling fairly good about my incrementally slow but steady weight loss, but when I got home after glutton-fest, I tried on a pair of normally loose fitting shorts and uh-oh...

I don't care though - the fried bread with cinnamon-sugar, caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream was SOOOOO worth it!

When I do OWS practice in Denver I usually meet my dad for breakfast afterwards at a nearby Cajun place. Beignets for breakfast. Nuff said.

I think the only race weight I'm nearing is Athena again. I lost 45 lbs last year, and I think I used up all of my will power. I am having the hardest time making good food choices and getting my bootay in gear. Since we go to the lake every weekend, I'm getting in some open water swims, but that is directly followed by a day of cold beers. Also, I just found the peanut butter pop tarts at the local Wal Mart. Those came directly from the devil. Even worse...the $ .99 crunchy beef burrito at Taco Hell. Tisk tisk!

OMG.  Beignets for breakfast??? I don't think I could handle that.  I have a hard enough time saying no to the pretzel pancakes topped with vanilla/caramel syrup whenever we go to this one breakfast place after a long workout on the weekend.

I'm in the same boat.  I lost about 40-45lbs in 2009 and I'm on the verge of being an Athena again.

Stupid lack of willpower.

They are from Spinergy (RevX), and complete my retro look. At Kansas 5150, some guy came up and said, "I love your bike!!! I wanted a pair of those rims when I was a kid." We had a good laugh about that.

Meh, spent all day looking how to replace my front derailleur. Bad news, the 6703 crankset I fitted a while back was not compatible with the one I had on the bike. I now have to decide whether to dig out the old crankset and try and get an old front derailleur whilst shelving the new, better crankset that set me back 250 ish dollars,. Or, suck it up, dig in to empty pockets and find the 800ish dollars needed to get new 10 speed levers, rear derailleur, 10 speed cassette and chain. Grrrrrrrr.

Ouch.  With empty pockets, I might go for the first option of digging out the old crankset.  I'm guessing you've already tried looking on ebay, etc to possibly find better prices?

Just finished my first yoga session since last summer (and last summer was my first yoga EVER). Let's just say that my balance and flexibility have suffered greatly Yell But I'm not nearly as bad as I was, nor as self-conscious.

On another note...where's best place to log yoga? (and yes, the child's pose/downward dog/warrior kind of yoga)

Huge hugs for you, Yanti.  Glad things are coming together for your suicidal friend, too bad about the other guy.  And really too bad about Daniel Craig's doppelganger, but I like your attitude about it - maybe later in life you will truly find your paths converging at the right time and place.

I try, do OK for a while, then fall off the wagon, climb back on, repeat cycle endlessly.  It's a sad state of affairs.  I'm in the 'fell off' stage right now, trying to scramble back on board.

We have been watching the stores. Wal-Mart had a huge display, but it was always filled with the old flavors. I was passing the display and thinking happy thoughts about the pb flavor and voila! There they were. Of course my husband went back today and got a box of the chocolate peanut butter, so I will be eating one of those for breakfast tomorrow. (even though he left them in his truck today and I will likely have to lick it off of the inside of the package.) But hey, I'm ok with that.

Let's compare notes after you see this.      I actually like this version much better than the Robert Redford version but will refrain from comment until after you see it.

Nick Carroway is one of my favorite narrators. I did not appreciate the implication that he was crazy. I kind of had to grit my teeth and look away in those scenes.

And they left out the whole "Old Dutch Settlers . . . fresh breast of the new continent . . " That is one of my favorite passages in literature. But they did get the "beating oars . . . ceaselessly into the past" that tears me up every time.

DiCaprio was okay as Gatsby. I was skeptical. And I didn't think anyone could do Daisy better than Mia Farrow, but it worked.

I had students who saw it, and I'm sure when it started they said, "Oh, damn. There's that green late that Squires kept yammering on and on and on about."

They kept "orgastic." Smile

What did you think?
