Veteran 104![]() | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Hi All, Just put up a race report for yesterday's duathlon. I was a damn good thing it wasn't a tri, as the temp when I left my house at 5:30am was 34 degrees. My wave started at around 7:30, and I listed the temp on my rr as 40, but I think that was generous. It was COLD, and when it started to warm a bit the wind started blowing. Even the elites were wearing arm-warmers on the runs! |

Did I ever tell you guys/gals how much I love working from home. |

Extreme Veteran 380![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Emmanem - 2010-05-09 8:20 PM Well hopefully, maybe we may have a new triathlete in the making soon. James seems to be getting more and more interested in the idea of doing a triathlon. Took me weeks to talk him into a 5k with me and now I think he's on board for a half mary next year after discussing it twice. Not to mention he took Bella out for a ride the other day and really enjoyed it. And he said without me asking him that he was going to do a triathlon "one day". Hoping one day is sometime soon so we can train together. I know he'd do amazing, he's one of those ridiculously athletic people and he's got the mental toughness thing down. I really think he'd enjoy it a lot. Keep your fingers crossed people!!! TRI GIRL was this past weekend in Houston. It reminded me of Keri's first TRI on Mother's Day 2009. I thought the whole sport was kinda nuts (except the bike part). Almost exactly one year later I am going to get through my first super sprint TRI. This sport gets on you and then you somehow feel the need to spread it to others. Having both partners training has it's ups and downs as many of the people on this board could tell you. Mostly, it's awesome and gives you one more thing in common. I am hoping by the end of this year Keri will be half as proud of my accomplishments as I have been in hers in this sport. I think after this weekend James will be hooked for good. Only a matter of time from there before his first race. |

I love that Ken is in this with me but neither of us get to train as often as we would like because the other one needs to get their training in too. The good news is he doesn't think it's crazy to spend money on tri stuff anymore |

Pro 4482![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() NJ | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Kim, same approach here. When I'm really pressed for time I cook the pasta and the veggies in the same pot. Throw the broccoli and asparagus in with the pasta after 5 mins. Drain and toss with grape tomatoes, feta and garlic infused olive oil (I make my own. Buy a good bottle of evoo and after you've used a 1/4 cup, drop in a few garlic cloves.) Oh, and tofu when I'm feeling the need for more protein. Second one is a boca burger nuked, crumbled and served in a whole wheat pita topped with garlicky hummus, cukes and shredded lettuce. In a real pinch, peanut butter and honey sandwich on whole wheat bread. That's my lunch more days than not. bzgl40 - 2010-05-09 9:28 PM So what is everyone's go to meal? You know, the pretty healthy one that you can whip up really quickly, faster then fast food, where you almost always have the ingredients on hand. Mine is pasta with a veggie, cheese, and what use to be meat but now is more a fake meat or tofu. I cook the pasta and while it is cooking I cook some veggies, often broccoli but near any will do. Today I put in "chicken" tenders, sundried tomatoes, pine nuts, olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, and feta. Took about 10 minute total to cook, which includes the boiling of the water for the pasta. I near always use whole wheat pasta and all in all this is a pretty tasty healthy meal that is super quick to whip up and has endless possibilities depending on what veggie or meat you have on hand. For you meat eaters it works really well with diced up ham |

Veteran 169![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!So I definitely do not belong with this group nutritionally!! Here is a rundown of my intake yesterday (fairly typical): Breakfast 1 - Biscuits/Gravy, orange, choc. milk Breakfast 2 - Protein shake, banana Lunch 1 - Pizza buffet, coke Snack - 2 choc. chip cookies, another banana Dinner - Tacos (made them healthy using chicken!!), guacamole dip/chips Dessert - Ben and Jerry's half baked ice cream, grapefruit Seems fairly ridiculous when I type it out like that, but I just never get full anymore. Lost 4 lbs. in the last 2 weeks eating crappy like this. I suppose I gotta clean it up a bit now that race season is approaching. |

Busting my @$$ now to finally get to my goal weight. Here's my typical "healthy" day of eating: Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs or Oatmeal with banana (add peanut butter on a higher calorie day) + 8oz fresh grapefruit juice Snack: Greek yogurt Lunch: 3 oz. chicken, 1c broccoli Snack: Banana Dinner: 3-4 oz lean steak, asparagus Snack: Varies between apple, banana, strawberries, etc... + skim milk So tomorrow is weigh in day...I'm hoping to drop at least 2 more pounds...I've been very consistent with my nutrition this week and have been able to do some great longer workouts. A little concerned though...drank way too much water yesterday (150+ ounces) and am feeling the bloat today. Hoping that is remedied before the date with the scale tomorrow morning. kjivie - 2010-05-11 1:25 PM So I definitely do not belong with this group nutritionally!! Payson, AZ | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I really miss good Mexican restaurants. They kind of bite here in Tucson, which I find a bit ironic. I had pretty good choices back in Oregon. Course being vegetarian makes it a little harder to find any restaurant with good food let alone Mexican. What seems like it should be vegetarian often isn't due to the use of things like chicken stock etc. |

Pro 4824![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I am Italian, well part anyway (my Dad is obviously English & Irish). We eat a lot of pasta! I cook pasta probably 6-8 times a week including lunch and dinner. I keep telling Ken my dream kitchen will have a sink with retractable collander. Our collander goes from the sink to the dishwasher back to the sink. I NEED carbs. When getting 'wedding ready' I did the low carb thing for those last 5 pounds or so and my SONS at the ages 5 and 7 begged me to eat some carbs cause Mama was cranky! I love chocolate but I am a bit of a chocolate snob which comes in handy at check out. The regular milk chocolate crap doesn't tempt me. I am more of a dark chocolate kind of girl which thankfully is harder to find. Right now I am settling for a dark mocha almond Kashi bar. |

Master 1209![]() ![]() ![]() New York, NY | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!That does seem pretty ironic! You'd think it would be common sense that if a restaurant is offering a dish sans meat, they'd use vegetable stock. What about making it at home? I'm slow to the game on posting my go-to foods, one of which is fajitas. You'd be surprised at how fast and easy they were! Cutting up veggies takes more time than anything else. Just thinking about this is mkaing me hungry! Burritos and enchiladas are also easy make-at-home dishes. bzgl40 - 2010-05-11 3:32 PM I really miss good Mexican restaurants.
