No good Mexican in NJ either.

Last year I spent a lot of time working in Europe. Mostly Germany.  It is NOT easy being a veg in the land of brats and brautens.  The beer however is perfect. Always. Once at a restaurant in Munich I asked the waiter for a vegetarian option he said:  so you like fish? I said no.  He said: you like chicken? I said no.  He said, ok then you can have the duck.  The language/cultural barrier was too much. I wound up eating bread.

bzgl40 - 2010-05-11 3:32 PM I really miss good Mexican restaurants.  They kind of bite here in Tucson, which I find a bit ironic.  I had pretty good choices back in Oregon.  Course being vegetarian makes it a little harder to find any restaurant with good food let alone Mexican.  What seems like it should be vegetarian often isn't due to the use of things like chicken stock etc.

Ruffles and onion dip.  With a white wine chaser.  mmmmmm

KelliD - 2010-05-11 4:15 PM I LOVE chocolate, but I don't find that I'm often tempted by it.  My biggest weakness/craving is ice cream!!  Love.It.  I've been pretty good lately, but I was on a long streak of eating it every night.

Nicole83 - 2010-05-11 4:21 PM Aw, do you miss me kitten?

No new injuries to report, just sheer madness at work and home.  Nothing fun or constructive to report, but as soon as there is I will be back in full snarky force.

Until then, I'm watching all of you.

Oh right, forgot about that.

You bastards.

And for the record, my favorite go to meal is chips and salsa.  It's dinner at least 2 night at week.

Tonight, however, will be ice cream.  Thanks for the inspiration Kelli.

BTW...Todd has company in the BT obsession. No kidding, the noob that I am making training plans for actually posted this in her log today:

Slowed a little in hard gear, but could really fly when the wind was to my back! Good ride. Bonnie Tyler is good on the bike as well as a run!

Now off to the pool to get some purple in my workouts.

I think she's going to kill me for posting that. Laughing

So it looks like my race this weekend is going to crash and burn before it even happens. Sucks because it's been in the works for almost a year and was going to be with my cousin and close family/friends.

Still can't find 2 runners to replace the people who flaked out on me 2 weeks ago. I've done everything to recruit replacements...well, except offering to buy them a case of beer...which I am certainly willing to do.

Today is starting out as a no-good-very-bad day.

Just to let you know the best thing with ice cream is to get a roll of cookie dough and PB. Spoon gets chunk of CD dips it in the ice cream them covers in PB. Oh that is almost pure heaven.

You haven't offered beer??? What are you waiting for??? Get on it and make it good beer, at that. I would offer to join you, no beer necessary but appreciated, except I am geographically undesirable in this case.

Can the members still remaining run multiple legs?  It'll be harder but at least it wouldn't be a bust.

The rules say that each member can only run one leg each. I'm sure there are probably teams who bend or break the rule, but I'm not sure I would want to do that...especially since it's my first time doing this race. A bit of good news...I did get an email from a lady who can't run with us, but she did give me a number of someone who can run. So now I only need one more runner!

I guess our 5 team members need to start pooling their money so we can fly Dan down here and fill him full of Shiner Bock at the after party. Laughing

Hello everyone!!

Taking a break from getting stuff ready for the first day of my internship tomorrow to check in.  I feel like I haven't posted in weeks but I think its been like 3 days.  I've been at training for my internship... a lot of long days but it was a lot of fun.  I met so many great people and feel like I learned a lot and I can't wait for my first day tomorrow.  Pretty sure I gained a lot of tolerance for dealing with people who are just complete jerks too as I met several of those too.  Actually I'm pretty sure one got himself fired today because of his behavior but besides that it was fun.  I absolutely love my manager and the other girls that were in charge of training.  It's a small company so the CEO came and helped out with training and learned each and everyone of our names... there was about 50 interns total.  The CEO was just a great guy and really got me excited about this internship.  Unfortunately no time at all for training.  By the time we got back to the hotel every night it was almost 9 one night almost 10:30 and I was completely drained.  I have no idea how people went out drinking every night until 2 or 3 and made it through training all day.  Finishing up some stuff tonight to be prepared tomorrow morning to meet with my group.  It's me and 3 guys.  The 3 of them are awesome... I know we're gonna have a great time working together.  I'm a little worried about not having any training done this week.  Tomorrow will be a run after work and i dont know about friday yet.  I know I'll need to do something to get some of the nerves out.  Race packet pickup is friday.  Getting really nervous actually but really excited.  It's so unreal that its just 2 days away.  Nicole... I was promised a cheer like 2 months ago, I hope you've been working on it haha  For those of you still reading this I'm impressed... Time to get back to work and get to bed.  Hope everyone has a good rest of the week!

Tomorrow I have a long run scheduled (1.5hrs) and want to do it ASAP in the morning.  Usually I have two pieces of toast and some peanut butter (and coffee) and wait about an hour then run but that would mean either waking up super early or starting work late.  So, I am looking for ideas as to what I can eat in the morning that will not sit in my belly and allow me to start running near when I finish eating, yet give me enough energy for the long run.  I'll have a gel with me for mid-run just in case of course.

a spoon full of peanut butter and a serving (usually 3) shot blocks (or equivilant) before... 1 bottle of gatorade, another serving of shot blocks & a gel during (should be plenty of calories for 1.5 hrs) and then a good recovery meal after.

What about a banana and a gel pre-run and another gel during the run.  If I have the time I like to have a small cup of coffee before my run, but like you, I also need to wait about an hour.  If I'm need to get up and go I'll either have 1 piece of toast with peanut butter/almond butter, a banana or a Powerbar.

Emma, glad your internship is interesting and includes some fun people.  Don't worry about training. That's done.  The only thing you could do now is hurt yourself anyway and that's Nicole's specialty (along with cheers). Try to get a good night's sleep tonight and tomorrow night and don't worry if you don't sleep much Saturday night. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water so that you go into the race well-hydrated.
