Got a decent run in this morning, and will swim after work.  I've been having some right shoulder issues that always seem to pop up when I swim more.  Which probably means I need to work on some bilateral breathing to balance out my stroke a bit.  So that's all I'm going to work on tonight.  Since I won't be attempting any hard interval sets, I may as well take the time to work on them bloody flip turns as well.

So just a quick shout-out - thanks for that, Goosedog - what in the world would the rest of us do if not for folks like you that take on all that stress for the rest of us. I hope it goes well for you and the rest of the organizers as well as your community - I know this race has a a great deal of added meaning for you in light of the ongoing events in Boston.

Thanks!  Small race - 650 runners or so.  We've got a great RD, so he's made it easy being on the committee.  Monday did make it more interesting.  Media was all over us regarding security.  Our locals injured also meant the entire s/b/r community, especially running because it is so big and organized, were desperate to help.  The first 48 hours was a little weird with everyone trying to set up a fund or figure out a way to accept donations.  Thankfully, grown ups got involved and spread the word that there would be one fund for donations.  Tomorrow should be a bunch of fun and hopefully a good opportunity for some runners to move forward.  Everyone have a great weekend.

*Note: Our official race policy is that we will gladly replace your race shirt if it's ruined under extraordinary circumstances if I feel like it.  We're awesome like that.

Some snowflakes falling, some reports of hail, and 25-30mph winds. And wanting to do bigger hills than anything we have around here I went inside. 5 x 5 min @6% pushing LT HR, 1 min recovery. Plus 5 min flat at t-pace or better.

I did another FTP test on the trainer and was down from 115 ftp to 97. thats kind of a bummer. I just didn't have anything in the tank this morning. The Insanity Workout is INSANE!!! It's thrashing me. love it. :=)

Was this an FTP test or a hard workout? For an FTP test you don't really want to go in tired. Don't need to be fully race ready, but should be able to push yourself quite hard. Sounds like an off day to just shrug off and keep moving along.

I had an awesome 80 mile group ride today.

My new bike is ready and has shipped, so I should get it this coming week. Maybe I'll be on it for next week's group ride!

Nice! Can't wait to get outside for these types of rides.

Rode to Blender. 1:40 with a bunch around threshold, some VO2 and 18 sprints. Love how they put more threshold work after the sprints. IF: .87 today. Think I can do better when I get used to suffering more again.

4:30 on the trainer today. Supposed to be 5:00 but I was seriously starting to lose it. Figure 4:30 on the trainer has to be somewhat equal to a 5:00 outdoor ride. The weather is driving me insane. On another note: Im pretty sure I passed my composite exam. So I've completed all my requirements to graduate. I will be a doctor, at the moment an unlicensed one but a doctor none the less. Licensing exam on May 6. Yay for the second of two 6hr exams. (For Matt: I'm Canadian but the exam we write is essentially the same as Step 2).

Awesome rides both inside and out Sally, Ben and Melissa (although Melissa you are a little nuts - been paying too much attention to Yanti's training it seems?).

I had a great ride today as well - only 35 miles, but 4000+ feet of climbing. Went hard from the get-go chasing some personal bests, and wound up and an IF of .95 for 2:09. I was totally spent at the end, but it was fun. Sort of.

Nice going there! I'd love to do something nuts like that one day. Best I can do around here is 80 ft/mi, but it's still a drive to get there.

Then with going long on the trainer, I've done 5 hrs last year when I was riding so much. But it felt like 4 hrs with more variety of intensity in places was more productive. I don't play the x time on trainer = y time outside games, but it was fairly easy to bump up to 5 hrs outside from the 4 hrs inside. Part of that could be comfort on the bike though. Outside just doesn't get to me as quickly with the variation.

Great ride today, 55 miles, 5800 feet of climbing, some with friends, the last two climbs solo.   Even met up with the "donut" group ride I referenced earlier at the bottom of one of the climbs, and made my way well through the pack (assuming they were working.....)  NP 231

SO, I Know what IF stands for, but is there a scale as to what is good, bad or indifferent?  Garmin shows IF of 1.15, but no idea if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

That means you need to reset your FTP in the Garmin, most likely. Or somewhere else. If I don't set it right in my Garmin (Edge 800), it might override anything in the software programs I'll load it into. It did for GarminConnect, but I think Strava and TrainingPeaks were ok.

1.0 is at FTP, and pretty sure that took more than an hour, more than 8-12 minutes-ish really, so it's off somewhere. 231/1.15 = FTP of 201. From what you've been posting, it should be quite a bit higher than that.

Then more to your question, it's really about what you want out of the ride. Or what you want out of certain parts of the ride, like during intervals. It can help determine various training zones you're working in. Table 1 over here helps with that.

I'm jealous of all the great rides you all are getting in.  I'm hoping to join the club tomorrow!

Masters swim meet was this evening, results as follows:

50 Breast - 36.7 - just ok, I don't swim that stroke fast very often so not used to going fast with it
50 Fly - 30.7 - pretty good
1500 free - 20:00.6 - really??  I couldn't just push off one wall a bit harder or something? LOL.  Still really, really happy with that, it's 30+ seconds faster than the last 1500 TT I did a couple of months ago.
100 free - 1:02 - The 1500 had done me in so I was dead at the 50.

I think I was second overall in the two 50s, first in the 1500 and I think first in the 100 but there was a couple of guys in the first heat that went pretty fast and I don't know what their times were.  Didn't stick around for the awards meal because it was late.

100 Free - I am in lane 5, just right of the clock on the wall at the start

1500 Free part 1 - this is around the 600m mark

1500 Free part 2 - this is around the 1000m mark

1500 Free part 3 - the final 100

The quality is good enough to tell me the one simple little thing I could have done to go under 20 mins for the 1500.  Anyone else spot it?
