Congrats on the races everyone.  You are all such an inspiration to me!!

I actually managed to finish my first century Staurday and am really pleased with how it went.  It actually gives me a little confidence for next month.

Just got a 2011 Felt B16 yesterday and went on my first ride on it today.  Have never riden a TT bike before.  Different.  Good thing is I did not crash and on my first ride on it my average MPH was about 2 MPH faster that my past rides.  The only thing is no my lower back and neck are sore.  Is this normal, something that I will adjust to?

Mike

I'm catching up on my posts so this have already been answered;  but this is perfectly normal.  The back pain is often times due to trying to hold your body in a different position and your core is trying to hold some of the weight off your saddle.  The shoulders/traps just take time.

I feel your pain too.  I've spent the last 2 months training on my road bike in the mountains and just made the switch back to my tri bike 2 weeks ago.  My shoulder/neck muscles are very unhappy with me

Once again thanks to everybody for all the "viral" support this weekend.  It sure helped the push!

Good luck to all the racers this weekend!

Just got back from my first ever bike road race... it was a fairly small local event but...

Came in 2nd overall!! WOOHOO!
Check out my RR

One of my other training ride buds won it. So we must be doing something right out there.
Great race and we all had a lot of fun!

Awesome job Brent!!

QUESTION*******  Does anyone use Salt Stick Tablets?  I use Hammer Eletrolytes and thus far they have worked.  However most of my training partners have switched to Salt Stick tablets and say how much better they work.  I can't decide if I should go with the "if it's not broke don't fix it" approach, or if  I could be doing much better and just don't know it yet.  I was going to try the Salt Stick this weekend but am curious on everyone's opinion.

I think it is all a matter of preference.  I prefer Metasalt's.  It settles well for me (no GI ISSUE'S) and can take it anytime.  And most importantly IT WORK'S FOR ME!

Oh my, I've fallen so far behind with the mg.  Congrats to all the racers!  Will try to get caught up with everyone this evening or tomorrow.  In the mean time, I have a quick question.  I've been keeping up with my training plan but I'm concerned about this week.  It's 94 and 60% humidity at 6:30pm and only going to get hotter and hotter as the week goes on.  How do you all handle the heat waves when they hit?  I'm assuming you still get out there, but with less intensity--and lots of hydration, of course.  Do you back off on your mileage?  Keep the mileage, but go easy?  Stay in the air conditioning (he he)?  Take a week-long trip to Canada to train?

I'm no expert on the topic, but my best advice is to work out very, very early in the morning to avoid as much of the heat as possible.  If you can't do that, I would recommend the trainer or the TM.  If you do want to acclimate your body a little in case it hits you in a race, lower the intensity and carry 2x the hydration.

i think suzy does.

John's right, I do use Salt Stick. It was recommended to me by Bob Seebohar because of the electrolyte profile.  It has worked well for me, but so did S caps.  For all I know he is sponsored by Salt Stick.

These caps are the only source of electrolytes for me in training.  I don't use Gatorade or any other sports drink.  Brett told me to consider 1g of sodium for every 1 liter of H20 you consume.  I don't get anywhere near that, but at 99lbs I don't think I need to.  Even in blistering heat yesterday, I took a total of 4 for six hours of sweating buckets.  Never cramped, never puked.

Speaking of never cramping or puking, but sweating buckets....here's my RR.  I know some of you think it's pretty blunt, but I really believe in laying out the facts as I see them.  It's the only way to improve upon the shortcomings and capitalize on the wins!!!

I'll have you know it hit 30C today....that's 90ish.... Can't back off training, but learn to adjust to it. Never know what conditions are going to be like race day. Hydrate. And salt. I've started to like the hammer enderolites as well.

What does it mean when doing a long ride and your small toes seem to fall asleep? I noticed that again on the weekend. My two small started to fell numb.

Wonder if your feet are swelling a little in the heat?  I have hot toes on both sides quite often and it directly related to pedaling too much on my toes versus dropping my heel.  That doesn't sound like your problem though if it is isolated to the two pinky toes.

Do you wiggle your toes when you do long rides? I'd get pain in the "arch" of my toes -- like I just want to bend them backwards for hours. If I am conscious about wiggling my toes it helps. (Of course it helps to feel your toes, which I couldn't in the IM for 2.5 hours!) I think that fit can affect that too -- cleat position, etc. But really, I'm no expert in this arena at all. Just throwing out some food for thought.

Question for Suzy:  in your RR you said your HR was where it was supposed to be on the bike, but your power was not.   Did you coach think you should have hit the power output even if it meant driving the HR higher?
