TinkerBeth 23096 Liverpool, New York | Subject: RE: Team Lively Lava Well, I went to spinning class - she did almost the ENTIRE class out of the saddle. Needless to say, I did not. Standing runs, standing sprints, standing climbs, jumps and more jumps, isolation drills followed directly by a standing sprint OY! I just closed my eyes and visualized I was riding my bike. I'm getting pretty good at picturing a course in my head. Next week I'm going to switch things around a bit and see how the Mon & Wed instructors are. |

I don't do anything in my classes that you can't do on a real bike. No one in their right mind would stand up on their bike for a whole hour! A cyclist is most efficient while seated. When you are seated, your body weight is supported by the saddle and your legs can go to the business of pedaling. When you stand, your legs have to pedal AND support your body weight. Don't get me wrong. Standing does have a time and a place. It just needs to be used appropriately. What kind of isolation drills did you do? |

I just took my computer to the shop this morning...power supply died (said the super non-geek firefighter computer idiot). So I stopped by the library...and frickin stood in line for a shot at a terminal, so I won't be here...except in spirit...for a day or two. I will however, be training and will log when I can. I have no doubt that you ladies will keep smashing pumpkins and kicking pineapples until I get back. Hugs and kisses to you all. Steve |

Is it to combat the boredom? |

Is it to combat the boredom? No worries, it's because I don't have a bike out in PA (and it's really just started to get warm enough and light enough in the evening to ride) my bike is still back in Omaha so I can ride on the weekends. The events i scheduled are in the midwest so it doesn't make sense to bring my bike out here - i guess I could ship it back and forth, but that seems like a pain and an expense i'm not really in a place to buy a 2nd bike (2 kids in college in the fall) sooooooo, trying to make due with spinning classes

Those are very bad for your knees (as you have felt). You never do anything like this on a bike. Not sure what you mean by "bounce it out" but.....if you are bouncing in your saddle while pedaling a Spin bike, you don't have enough resistance. |
