Well, I went to spinning class - she did almost the ENTIRE class out of the saddle.  Needless to say, I did not.  Standing runs, standing sprints, standing climbs, jumps and more jumps, isolation drills followed directly by a standing sprint

OY!

I just closed my eyes and visualized I was riding my bike.  I'm getting pretty good at picturing a course in my head.

Next week I'm going to switch things around a bit and see how the Mon & Wed instructors are.

Right now it's only once a week, every other week. Hopefully I'll be able to increase to at least once a week once the kids have less after school events I need to get them to/from.

So you stood a little bit, eh?  I don't do anything in my classes that you can't do on a real bike.  No one in their right mind would stand up on their bike for a whole hour!  A cyclist is most efficient while seated.  When you are seated, your body weight is supported by the saddle and your legs can go to the business of pedaling.  When you stand, your legs have to pedal AND support your body weight.  Don't get me wrong.   Standing does have a time and a place.  It just needs to be used appropriately.  What kind of isolation drills did you do?

Hey ladies...hope you day is going well.  I will probably be M.I.A. for a couple of days.  I just took my computer to the shop this morning...power supply died (said the super non-geek firefighter computer idiot).  So I stopped by the library...and frickin stood in line for a shot at a terminal, so I won't be here...except in spirit...for a day or two.

I will however, be training and will log when I can.  I have no doubt that you ladies will keep smashing pumpkins and kicking pineapples until I get back.

Hugs and kisses to you all.

well, I didn't do them (the isolation drills kill my knees)- nor did I do all the standing -

I'm not really sure what kind of drills they are - she has the class stand, with a lot of resistance and move only their legs - then she has them 'bounce it out' in between drills

it just doesn't seem quite right to me

Please don't take this the wrong way, but why do spin classes instead of riding your bike on a trainer stand? Is it to combat the boredom?

No worries, it's because I don't have a bike out in PA (and it's really just started to get warm enough and light enough in the evening to ride)

my bike is still back in Omaha so I can ride on the weekends.  The events i scheduled are in the midwest so it doesn't make sense to bring my bike out here - i guess I could ship it back and forth, but that seems like a pain and an expense

i'm not really in a place to buy a 2nd bike (2 kids in college in the fall) sooooooo, trying to make due with spinning classes

Kinda figured that was what you would say about the isolation drills.  Those are very bad for your knees (as you have felt).  You never do anything like this on a bike.  Not sure what you mean by "bounce it out" but.....if you are bouncing in your saddle while pedaling a Spin bike, you don't have enough resistance.
