Dee, we need suckometer points for the weather...

just saying, I know you too well to think it's going to happen...

Sorry. According to my Suk-o-meter, it's still wayyyyyyyyyyy too cool for those points.

I think your suckometer is broken, I checked accuweather for the time I was running. It was 89 degrees and 54% humidity out there so it rates high on my suckometer scale. Today I could barely see the skyline of Richmond as I crossed the river for all the humidity

Ew. Sounds um, "delightful." May I suggest going for a swim instead?

Ok, time for my intro!

Name's Peggy. I'm single, 29, 2 fur babies (cats, if you must know). I just sold my house and am now free from the bondage that is home ownership! As much as everyone says that owning a home is a great investment (I'm not disputing it...it is!!), when you are single and unattached with limited family in the area, it really becomes an albatross around your neck. I am now free to roam the country (I believe that's a line in a commercial for an airline, but it applies to me). I'm currently the manager of a medical coding department for a consulting company, but will be transitioning out of that position into a remote position (which will REALLY give me freedom to move around...all I'll need is high speed internet access!).

This is my second tri season. I actually started training 2 years ago with a couch to 5k program. The DAY before my first 5k, I fell down my steps and sprained my ankle really badly. Oh the agony! The first thought that went through my head was "Damn...there goes my 5k!" This from a girl who at her highest weighed 328 lbs (pics in the album if you don't believe me). I lost about 70 lbs before I started tri-ing, and I'm now at not quite 95 lbs down. I avoided activity at all costs. Now I look for it.

That's me in a nutshell. Lots of changes in the past month...I'm honestly surprised I remember my name at this point. Hoping to make the Geckos proud, and train well for my first Olympic at the end of the month. I'm already behind on my training because of all the stuff that's been going on, but if I can make it through, then I can really focus on my A race, which is another Oly in August.

Wow, Peggy! That's a really inspirational story. CONGRATULATIONS on the lifestyle changes you've made! (ALL of them!)

I don't know about this "dewy" and "glisteny" stuff...I just got in from an hour+ bike ride (before it got too hot) and I'm just darn sweaty and stinky.

But 18.76 more miles in the bike. Hooray!

May go for a little swim in the pool this afternoon...

I was at Joshua Tree National Park this week and if someone needs an avatar of a real life Gecko here you go!

No payment necessary - It is a gesture of goodwill from the June Victors to the other teams playing for 2nd place!

Have a great weekend!

we appreciate the picture as a gesture of goodwill, but I think the winning team is the one you posted that picture on!

zipp1 - 2008-06-04 7:18 PM I'm a 48 year old mom of 2 girls...aged 12 (going on 20) and 14.  I started running a few years ago as a stress reliever and injured my foot.  Took up biking to keep moving without the stress on the foot.  I never fell in love with the bike there...BUT I had a friend at work who did a local tri and it got me thinking about one again (I had dismissed the idea as crazy several years before).  Started working with a swim coach who has taken me from a step above dog paddle to a decent (albeit slow) stroke.  I was hooked with my first tri last June and have done 3 in all.  I recently started to love my bike, still prefer running and love swimming --though OWS is still one of those HTFU events for me   Jen has me talked into an OWS 1 mile river swim event in a couple weeks to get my head removed from my keester on that one   My A race this year is my first oly in September so I'm working hard at following a real training plan this year.

WOW -- Same age..... Yes.

4 kids here -- 19,17,15,13.   None really interested in TRI yet, although my eldest was a lifeguard at a race I and some buddies Race Directed last year.  She loved it!  The other three kids, and my wife were "volunteers"

That said, they all support me in my tri stuff.   They're giving that way.

Well, another day another workout.

1500 yards of speed work in the pool this morning.  Was good, but tough.

Ahead of track on my goals for the month.  Hope to keep it that way!

Did 32 minutes in open water practice today.  Actually felt pretty good for a swim in the river.  Guess I'm making progress on that.

Yes, it was awesome to be out there and actually just focus on the stroke and not the panic of the water.  Warm water helps that feeling of security for sure.

I had an unscheduled day off yesterday after I crashed on my MTN bike. I kind of banged up my shoulder, but it seems to be getting better.
I got in 33 miles on the bike this morning, followed by a 3.5 mile run.

Greetings, Team Kamikaze Geckos!

Hope your first week of June went well - and that you got lots of training done!

This is a reminder that I'll be checking spreadsheets tomorrow to give everyone a Challenge Update!

Therefore, all training must be logged in your BT Training Log and on your team's Google Spreadsheet, by SATURDAY night, your time. If it’s not logged and reported, it didn’t happen!

If you're having trouble logging your workouts, please let your team captain know.

Have a great weekend! And don't forget - you need to MOVE IT this month, so your team doesn't LOSE IT!

- Dee

My plan to get in a bike ride this afternoon was foiled by some seriously bad weather we had come through this way. If I was at home, I would have hopped on the trainer, but as it is, I'm stuck at my BFF's for the night with no bike option available. Tomorrow is another day.  But, I did get a swim in this morning...putting me somewhere around the 15% mark...
