Member 34 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread How would you consider the course. Hilly at all or mostly flat with rollers. Good, bad road conditions. Any info would be great. |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread The course is pretty flat. There's a small bridge in the first 20 miles or so if I remember correctly, and some rollers on the backside - maybe 50 or 60 miles in?? but basically flat...pretty good conditions - one bumpy road around miles 70 or 80?? but maybe they've fixed that. My memory is fuzzy from 2007 but I wouldn't worry about hills on this course..HEAT, maybe, but not hills |

Extreme Veteran 481 The Land of Mickey-Orlando | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I did Gulf Coast this year and some of the roads that were rough have been paved because Panama City is putting in a new airport. I am riding the course in the next couple of weeks and I will give you a full report. Is anyone else exhausted?? I did a 13 mile run and an 80 mile bike this weekend and I just can't seem to bounce back like I have in weeks past. I did my bike trainer session this morning (90 min) with a recovery run of 30 minutes and am just whipped. Any suggestions?? Wow!! 95 days!! I am soooooo nervous!!! |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I will reply to your message in just a second. I need to go take a nap first Completely understand where you are coming from. Not sure if it is cumulative, or if it is because I just started increasing my running mileage but I have been feeling more exhausted recently. I kind of remember feeling this way right before my last marathon. Could make for a long 13 weeks. Another curious thing about this Ironman training is that I have been gaining weight. I lost a bunch of weight when I trained for my marathon but I have actually gained five pounds training for this race. I am not exactly watching my diet which I was kind of hoping would be a benefit of working out so hard. I have always been overweight and one of the reasons I took up endurance sports was to not have to diet. Hopefully the build up over the next couple months will knock out those 5 pounds. I would like to have lost weight but I will settle for breaking even at this point. |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I was exhausted last week...much of it was dehydration. I am losing 3-4 # during training sessions, and that's taking in what seems like a lot of fluids...It's just bloody hot and humid here! |

Veteran 210 Knoxville | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've actually put on 6 lbs. It probably all muscle Recovery week last week and a century ride on Saturday. Decent ride except for the 10 miles of false flats.....I was talking to a coach in ATL about the IMFL course and he did mention that there are some pretty long false flats (upwards of 5-6 miles). I;m told the course is not completely flat, but much flatter than anything I ride here in GA! |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey JMeeks, I know this is a newbie question but what exactly is a false flat? Is that when the road appears flat but is actually a gradual uphill? I am definitely interested in your coaches thoughts on things. I am a fellow Atlantian and have been training pretty much exclusively on the Silver Comet trail as that is the only "relatively" flat ground I can find around here. I am hoping this is good prep for IMFL. I also love that on the Silver Comet I can bike 100 miles and never worry about being hit by a car. On the flip side it is kind of a pain to have to slow down for all the road crossings. |

Extreme Veteran 437 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Anyone else in the same situation I am in? Almost 3 months of no training? My bike still has the gatorade bottle on it from the FL half Ironman(meaning I haven't ridden since then) and I haven't swam since that race either. BUT I have run 2 miles Ugg how many days to go for the IM FL? |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread What is a false flat? You'll know it when you ride over one. Basically it is when the road appears "flat" by looking at it. But your legs will be saying- Hey, this road doesn't feel flat. You will begin to wonder why you feel so tired riding over a flat road. Wonder if your nutrition is off or if your brake is rubbing! LOL! OT- Anyone else out there tired and lacking motivation right now? Please tell me this is normal.

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ok well that pretty much describes half my ride. The route is labeled as having a 2 percent grade but the whole thing looks flat. One minute I will be hitting a wall trying to maintain 14 mph and the next I will be cruising at 22 mph with little effort. |

5 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've had simular issues with weight loss. I have lost some weight but not nearly what I had hoped to or need to for IMFL. When I decided to IMFL I would consider myself a complete couch potatoe. I figured after June/July I would have lost a considerable amount of weight but it just has'nt happened. Hopefully in the next few months my metabolism will start to pick up. |

Stay positive, keep moving forward, and you may find the funk fall away... set a new starting point (next Monday, this Saturday, the 10th, what ever works for you and then rekindle that IM Flame... Good luck! tic!~tic!~tic! some one slow this clock down...IMFL will be here in NO time (or so it seems!) |

Extreme Veteran 399 Long Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Catwoman - 2009-08-04 7:18 PM Was defintiely feeling that way in June, mostly because everyone in my tri circle was already racing and I was just starting to train. After I did an Oly last weekend it really shifted my attitude and I started getting excited again. Maybe a little pick-up race could help you out, or there's always caffine, sugar, sleep...What is a false flat? You'll know it when you ride over one. I felt the same way the last few workouts (today's 3000 yard swim turned into a 2000 yard swim..i was just exhausted) but the time crunch has got me nervous and motivated!! As for the weight loss issue described in this thread...oh god...don't get me started!! I wanted to take off 30 by Ironman. I have only lost 11 more pounds than where I was last year prior to the Ironman. Cross your fingers that some more weight will come off before Nov. Its good to hear that other people are experiencing fatigue and its not just me. You guys keep me motivated!! Thank you so much for your posts!! |

Member 42 Mobile | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I have been training now for almost 4 wks. I decided to do the 17 wk plan instead of the 13 in the event "Life got in the way". Haha! Anyone doing this plan knows the swimming portion is heavy and I feel that if I don't grow gills soon, at least my tail will fall off and I will go from being a tadpole to a full fledged frog. I know the pain of losin' that "get up and go feeling". Last year over 40 triathletes from our Y alone in Mobile, AL did IMFL and I knew all of them. This year its only about 11 and our skill levels are quite different, so its hard to train together. I just keep hanging on to the fact that I have a strong endurance engine, where my strength engine could use some work. Tenancity has always been my middle name, lets hope I can hold on to that. |

Expert 1139 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread So have any of you guys reserved your acommodations for IMFL? I've been looking at airfare and am thinking of volunteering this year to sign up for next year rather than chance it for online signup Sunday. Only catch is I have no idea what hotel costs would be like/where would be a good spot to stay or if I could bum a couch off someone for a nominal fee if they're in a condo. I'm thinking flying in Friday, race volunteer Saturday, sign up and fly out Sunday. Any advice would be great, or if there's anyone else looking to volunteer that would want to split a room/any participants with extra room? |

I like nice on convient over cheep.....but to me shores of panama is cheep. Often there is a BT house where peopel crash and play. THere are tons of condos in walking distance |
