Not to overshare but I over-pronate. I am a huge Brooks fan though. I had previously been running in a New Balance stability, then moved to the Brooks Axiom - both of those irritated my legs/hips. The Trances allow me to run forever without leg pain caused by the shoe. I also like them bc they are not too heavy - it's hard to find good stability without it being an old grandma orthopaedic shoe weight, haha.

Do you like the Mizunos? My friend Christa just got some from Roadrunner, the shoe dog matched her up. I didn't know they made running shoes, I always thought of them as soccer for some reason.

Have you tried the Newtons? I want to give them a shot, see if it's just all marketing. I'd ask in the forums, but that would start another 11 page 300 post thread and I just don't want to be responsible for that more than once an off-season.

Edited to fix my lousy spelling

Yup, Mizunos makes running shoes I do like them - they are pretty light. I have high arches and my ankles don't actually roll (I was suprised, but I got to watch myself on a treadmill).

I have not tried Newtons since I'm not quite at the level where I'd need to pay that much money for speed. Plus, I hear they are more for forefoot/midfoot runners, and I have no idea what I am, really. Because of my knee situation, I will stick with something that cushions enough for awhile - which is why I was curious about the Brooks neutral shoes as they seem to have one that is uber-cushioned (the Glycerin).

Are you providing room & board? It's really really cold and blowing here. I think it's not snowing, but it's hard to tell.

Yeah, they have a new one for heel-strikers to fix it so they hit midfoot.

I'd recommend you try the Brooks, I'm pretty fanatical about them :-)

My Mizunos attempted to cripple me. I now use Saucony's. I was really unimpressed with the lifespan of the Mizunos as well. They didn't make it to the 200 mile mark before they were shot. But I'm bigger than most of you. I was in the Inspire 4's and won't wear anything ever again that tries to "correct" my body's natural mechanics.

ETA: replaced you with use. Seriously. Am I an idiot?

I was wearing Brooks for awhile, but they didn't fit quite right. One size was a little too small and I was getting blisters on my toes. The next size up was too big and I was getting blisters on my arches and on the back of my heel.

Now I run in Sauconys.

So I FINALLY took my car in to get the damage fixed. It was in a hail storm in 2006 and someone backed into my front bumper in 2007.

I'm excited to have a pretty car again!

Not bad at all! Pretty cars are the way to go. I hate having one that's all dinged up.

Nice! I've got a paint scrape in two places that I should have fixed - both are my own doing in trying to park my ginormous car in the tiny little spots at work, next to the posts. The lot is divided into sets of 3 with a post on each side of the sets of 3. I always try to go for the middle spot, when I get 100% of the time in the morning now, but if I leave for lunch, it usually gets taken. My car is really long and there's not much space to swing into the spots. Plus, so many people drive big SUVs and don't park them well, so that makes it harder.

It's a Sebring (2006 - the newer one is smaller), and while it's not huge, it's a very long car. So in these tiny little parking lots in NoVA, it's sometimes hard to navigate. I can park it amazingly well considering the dimensions (insert joke here about me being a female driver as well, though I assure you, I am a good drive for a chick). But once in awhile, I don't guess correctly.

See, I (obviously) don't mind a dinged up car. I was being rather negative in thinking "as soon as I get it nice again, someeone's going to smash into me!" because that ALWAYS happens to me. Someone backed into my back bumper a few years ago. Like 2 months after I got it fixed, someone else backed into me. WHy bother!!!?

But the last time I drove out of town, the front bumper caught the wind, almost fell completely off, and started scraping the highway. Tom was NOT happy about having to get under the car at a gas station and zip tie the thing to my car.

Haha, yeah, I got my current car, brand-new in May of 2006. In February, I slid on some ice (they didn't plow/salt) my neighborhood, smacked up against a median and cracked the darned wheel - needed to buy a whole new wheel. Not 2 weeks after I replaced the wheel, some d-bags ran a stopsign and took off the front of my car. I had two witnesses who said they ran the stopsigh (and I had no stopsign), so obviously, I didn't have to pay a dime.

I meant that I guessed wrongly that I could fit the car into the spot coming from the angle that I was.

I had that happen to me. I wrecked my truck going around an S-curve a little bit too fast. Maybe 3 months later some girl at school (who still fears me to this day) missed the parking spot next to my truck and hit it hard enough to lift it off the wheels. One of my friends saw it happen and told me about it. I called the cops (hit and run) who wouldn't do anything about it (private parking lot - at a public school (?)). After some discussions with her parents I got a check to repair the damage. It all worked out in the end. I still miss that truck from time to time.

I'm on my third in four years. There are tons of dump trucks on the highways here and they don't have to cover the stuff in the back, so there are always tons of rocks and gravel falling out. And since I drive 20 miles to and from work every day, I get hit with a lot of it. Yuck.

I know TAN is supposed to be about 'nothing', but here's a little tri-dilemma.

My first race ever was the Luray Sprint. And it kicked my a$$, mainly b/c the bike segment is difficult. The swim is a piece of cake and the run isn't bad - unless your legs are toast from the bike.

The Luray Sprint and Oly distance are on my tri team's calendar for the year - they are in mid-August. We have the plan designed around "A" races (with other B/C races) - the Luray races are considered "B/C", as our peak closest to that date is actually mid-September. I am planning to do an "A" race (an Oly) with the team schedule (though probably not the one they've chosen).

Part of me wants to do the Oly and show the course who's boss. But I also don't want to throw off my training and that's a hard Oly, so I wonder if for my ability, it'd be better if I was at peak for that race. So then it would make more sense to do the Sprint instead, as a B race.

Thoughts?

I was wearing an old pair of running shoes last year when I stepped on a nail. The doc at urgent care told me that I needed antibiotics b/c of a particularly nasty bacteria that has been known to grow in old running shoes...

I decided to risk it and not get the drugs... but it did make me consider using old running shoes for yardwork... at least around rusty nails.

Anything worse than what I can get walking around barefoot in the locker room at the YMCA?

from the way this guy talked it was like the plague...
