As if the e coli sewage trouble is not enough, here is a pic of a gator that hangs around the section of river in which we have been training. It appears to be a 4 or 5 footer and is one of a few that my friends have spotted. I have two friends that live on the river and their houses are the first and second on the left down river one you pass the highway 1 overpass. Fabulous! It will be just like open water swimming at home. Gators and snakes. Ya think I could catch a good draft off a 4-5 ft. gator??? |

Yes, it is on the lunch menu. Avocado, tomato, sprouts, parmesan and swiss cheese, mayo vinaigrette, red pepper mayo on Cuban bread. Get the pasta salad as the side...YUM! Runnergirl is right on with the Boll Weevil, the desserts ROCK! Last weekend my wife and I had appetizers at the White Elephant, dinner at Blue Sky Kitchen, and dessert at Boll Weevil. |

Since I'm spectating and not racing now, my coach wants me to do the course as OW swim practice on the day before the race. Is that an option? |

Member 23 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread I'm getting nervous. This will be my first time at this distance. My taper started 5 weeks ago when a calf injury brought my running to a halt. The good news is the calf is better, the bad news is it's untested beyond 10 miles. The dark mornings and my intense schedule resulted in very little time spent on the bike in the past few weeks. My longest ride to date is 36 miles, so I'm untested on the bike as well. The good news is I've been swimming 2 - 3 times a weeks in the pool. I've done the 1.2 miles in training so I'm not worried about the swim. The bad news is I now have a head cold w/ sore throat, so the short runs and rides I had planned this week are off... Thursday afternoon I'll take off on the 16hr drive to Augusta (my wife and daughter with me). Hopefully I'll have shook this cold by then. I think having Friday and Saturday for some route recon will help settle my nerves. Any thoughts, advice, and/or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. |

The weather is so bad here I cant even get out and so some short rides/runs to burn off some energy. Headed over on Fri. and hoping for some great weather this weekend. Steve |

With all the bad luck you have had you should just go out and enjoy yourself. The swim will be the easiest 1.2 you have ever done due to the current. The last half of the bike will challenge you due to your lack training at this distance. The run is flat and your performance may surprise you since you seem rested and healed. Enjoy the weekend and our city with your family, then enjoy the experience racing the inaugural Augusta HIM. Next year you can come back and kill it! |

And are we still having Gator for breakfast? Gator is still on the menu. No word on the sewer leak, but it is my opinion that this has been going on for sometime. The only reason it was tested was due to the race, right? We have been swimming in the river all summer and I have not heard of any issues, but I expect another chlorine bomb to be dropped before the race just to be safe. |

And are we still having Gator for breakfast? Haven't heard anything more about it. I did hear something about they hired some guy to clean up the weeds in the river. A co-worker told me he heard it on one of the local radio stations. Apparently they are paying some guy $5000 to hand pick the weeds. I think it is funny because many of those weeds are 3' - 4' from the surface. Just deep enough to kind of freak you out. That alligator could be lurking in those weeds.... Seriously, for those that have not swam in the river yet try to mentally prepare yourself to see some creepy weeds in the beginning of the swim. I am certain there will be people slowing down when the start to swim over the weeds and that will cause people to bump into others since it is early in the swim and the pack hasn't been broken up yet. Hopefully they can get it cleaned up nicely but I have my doubts. The weeds won't hurt you at all, just a little creepy swimming over them. Edited by csharp1171 2009-09-22 9:53 AM |

Ha,ha- I would love to go out to the river and eat lunch and watch some dude hand pick all the river weeds. That my friends is some funny stuff. Glad they are taking the race seriously though. And btw- I rode my bike through downtown on Sunday. It was hot and humid and totally reeked. Smelled like trash and sewage in certain spots. Anyone else notice this? The run might have some interesting smells- ugh. |

We are looking forward to visiting Augusta for the first time... we'll take in some sights, do a little shopping and enjoy some southern cooking. |
