Today, following Brent's advice I went to Memorial Park in Houston and did a few loops around the one mile+ closed course. I saw a bunch of roadies right before six so I went and asked if they were about to ride away and they were. They didn't have a problem letting me tag along, after warning me that the pace was "brisk". Well, brisk turned out to be brutal, at some points going 30mph into a headwind! Freaking crazy roadies! That pace was straight from hell.

At times they slowed down (in neighborhoods and such) and also while going through the middle of downtown Houston, yes, you read that right. Even with stops and plenty of red lights the average pace was over 20mph. It was a fun adventure, thrilling at points being two inches behind the next wheel at 30+.

At the end of the ride there was only six people out of thirty, no wonder they call it the "Death Ride"...

I wish we had rides like this in Dallas though.

I can't upload the files because I forgot my USB-ANT+ stick but I will as soon as I get back, I want to see those HR spikes.

Ernesto, just curious, how far from MAF were you  during that ride?

ncredibly above (up to 30 beats at certain points), but had a blast! Remember it is about having fun too!

Hey Ernesto, sound like an awesome ride and look forward to seeing your Garmin link.  Did you get to play with your new toy?

I'm uploading the files in a few minutes and the answer is yes, she went out for her first ride ever. I have never experienced such a thrill on a bike. That rig is a MONSTER, takes off like a whip, corners steady and every watt translates to pure speed. Even the roadies were drooling when they saw it.

Mitch and Scott, good luck this weekend.  Hope the rain holds off.

Right now we have 25-30 mph winds and predicted rip currents.  It's possible that the sprint swim will be cancelled tomorrow.  We'll have to wait to see if I get to swim in the OLY on Sun.  Very excited, I'm working the finish line at the sprint tomorrow.

Ernesto, what new toy?  Did I miss something on the forum?

Yeah, another one. I bought a road bike, a Specialized S Works Venge with Firecrest 404 wheels. One of the (claimed by Procycling magazine) three fastest road bikes in the planet. I got it in jet black. Her name is "Black Angel", she's my new baby... BTW I updated my log.

Just officially signed up for my first Sprint - June 23rd.  Really excited that they are offering a triathlon workshop the weekend before as well.

In the meantime a friend and I signed up to run the Dirty Girl Mud Run (think Tough Mudder series - but shorter).  Super stoked!

Good luck to all running this weekend.

Nice Job Mitch!  Sorry I missed you at the finish line I was a couple of mins behind you. Didn't stick around for the wet ceremonies.  Ran 3:40.  Not stellar, but better than last year. 1:45 out and 1:55 back.  Kind of imploded at mile 23.  Undecided Oh well plenty of time to make amendments at the Detroit Marathon in six months!

Jim-  Mitch and I have decided that you need to come down and run the Motor City with us.  Need help finding the registration site?  j/k

Great time and great meeting you this morning!

My last 3 miles weren't a thing of beauty either.  Walked a bit and hated those wooden bridges...felt like they absorbed every footstep.  Much hillier than I expected and really didn't need the head wind on the way back in portion.

Scott, great time as well. Don't beat yourself up, if you don't blow up on mile 23 you're not human.

7 SecondsYell that is what I missed my PR by this morning in the Blue Bell 10K.  I wasn't going for a PR at the start though so I'm not dissapointed.

47:44 was my time and the last 3/4mile had a pretty big hill at the end.  I moved my long run (80min 9.3miles) from Saturday to Thursday so maybe if i hadn't done that I would have PR'd.

Overall a good week, though the weight is not really coming off.  The wife says I look slimer though so who knows.

Long ride tomorrow 40miles steady state.  First Tri of the season in 3 weeks!

Mitch, Scott & Mike - Great races.  PR's are what we all hope for, but sometimes they are just out of reach.

Remember that 99% of life is just showing up.  You guys did a lot more than that!

I will see if I can. We have several family things going on around then. I would love to race on the Island. I havn't been there since I was stationed there back in the 80's. I would love to show it to the kids. Are you doing the sprint or the olympic?

Great time on your race.

I was realistically looking at anything sub 4 hours... I really wasn't sure what to expect from the weather.  Secretly hoping for around 3:30.  3:40 is a PR for me so I'm pretty happy with the result overall.

I'm planning on the OLY,  Mitch is doing the Sprint.  Would be great if you could make it.  It's a really nice place for a race.
