Another 70.3 question...

I have never had chafing issues from my wetsuit, but my longest swim has been my Oly. Where are problem areas that I should apply body glide? Also, I went a few weeks on my old Solomons without blisters, then they started to wear out and the blisters came back so I switched to my new Solomons (same style/gen) and the blisters are still there. So, althought I'm still testing socks, I think I should plan on using body glide on my feet in T2 as well. I guess this means I need two bars of body glide, no?

Can't help you on the wetsuit question, but re the Solomon's; I suggest putting body glide on your socks. Flip them inside out and lube them up, that adds another level of protection and if you've missed a spot on your foot, you're covered.

Just got a call from our coach. He is more excited about my race than I am! I guess, I didn't really realize what a breakthrough it was. He told me his new marathon prediction and I can't even believe it. Of course, Boston is another beast. He prefers me to run Boston strong, not 'fast' which is kind of what I was thinking. I don't know that it is a marathon to showcase speed so much, with the hills (up and down.)

I am supposed to run everything like recovery this week to allow for the adaptions to take place. And basically . not eff anything up now. Which makes sense. 5 weeks to Boston!

Indeed, but the net downhill can certainly be used to your advantage.

Any particular plan for how to run the hills? I think we discussed this before with Felicia, not that there's a catch-all hills policy, but ease/patter up and barrel down seems to be a good idea. You're not going to waste your quads any more doing that than you would any other method, and it seems fastest for the hills.

Yes, there's a plan. There's always a plan! Coach thinks I will have a somewhat unique ability to kick the downhills azz because of my overall toughness (as demonstrated by high mileage, staying injury free) but also my gait. I run pretty low to the ground (don't bring me knees up like some do) so it minimizes the pounding. The uphills will be taken easy. Getting up as quickly as I can without expending unnecessary amounts of energy.

I've noticed that in pics that you have posted.  Just goes to show that the body finds the most efficient way, although that is different for everyone.

My new buddy, Cobalt, the Blue Tree Monitor!

He's so cool!!  I had a lizard. I miss him.

Oooh Kate! I like him!

I took this picture just for you, and to prove I'm taking teeny tiny steps to sort of patter frantically around my phobia before running screaming from it again. But at least I'm trying.

P.S. The picture actually ooks me out more than sitting on it did (although that was pretty bad too, I didn't have to *look* at it).

P.P.S. Okay, the fact that I'm wearing an IM shirt with its motto, "Anything is Possible" is really funny.

I'm proud of you, Yanti!

So I am probably going to get expelled from the Manatee pod for this Cry but here goes.....

I am canning my OD in April. I feel really bad about this like I have failed.

Work has just sucked for the last month and the last week in particular and the next 3 weeks aren't going to get any better. There is no way that I can get in the required training to ensure that I am able to finish at all let alone in under 4 hours. I have been thinking about it for a few days since I hurt my back again and lost more run days.

Then last night DH said that he is planning on racing the night before so that means pit crewing for me so lots of heavy lifting and a very late night (he hasn't raced for so long that I don't want to say that I can't help him out). So that kind of made the decision final.

So my new plan is to change to a full sprint on 7th April and call that the last tri for the season, and then spend some time focusing on my run over the winter and do the 12k run for a reason at the end of May, and the HM at the city to surf at the end of August. Then I will have 12 weeks to work on swim before the Mandurah HIM with the boys and I will have a great base behind me for next tri season.

Now to make the plan work around work and other stuff.

Please don't feel like you failed or we'll be disappointed in you.  Doing what is best for you and being smart about your training is a good thing!!

X2.

Be sure to the back of your neck.  Well, really all around your neck.  I assume that your suit is sleeved, right?

You might also want to consider TriSlide around your ankles to ease removal.

Thanks all! Neck and ankles and inside the socks (I like that idea, can be done pre-race). Is TriSlide significantly different than body glide?

Oh and Yanti, you mentioned putting something on your face to fend off the cold water. What was that? Did you use it? I think the NZ water was pretty nice wasn't it?

It's spray on and it's waterproof.

What wetsuit do you have? Definitely all around the neck, and don't forget under the chin/along jawline. If you have a variety where the seams stand out on the inside, all along the seams as well.

I've heard very good things about TriSlide. For me, though, it's 2Toms SportShield roll-on all the way. That crap LASTS, anywhere and everywhere, through an entire IM without re-app and still needs to be washed off after (but does so easily with soap).

Bodyglide doesn't make it through most swims for me.

Now that you mention it's spray on I think the guy at my fave LBS sold me some of that, so I think I'm set!

I looked at their website and nobody local carries it. However, one of my fave LRS in Denver has it, we'll be there next weekend, and a place in Oceanside carries it. Cool beans.

Nah, the water was gorgeous and I made my peace with it the days before. Around 20C (what's that, 68 or so?) although fresh water tends to "feel" colder.

They were actually the ones I tried to finagle you to get me a long time ago.

I actually have very, very similar chucks to what you are describing. I got them for a wedding of all things. The bride had all us bridesmaids wear the chucks of our preference.
