dlb3830 - 2007-09-05 3:26 AM surprise my nurses too much - except nurses don't like surprises. One day they had to call security on me because my mom helped me escape outside in a wheelchair; I was supposed to not leave the floor I was on. What did they expect? As soon as I wasn't wired to the bed, I made my getaway. I joked that they would never be able to find me because I'm so inconspicuous. I have blond hair, blue eyes, am missing a leg, wearing one red sock, and at one point I was carrying a balloon. They had no chance of spotting me. But really, I had technically been inside for over 6 weeks - what did they expect?  Deanna

Yeah! If you are typing your fine motor is coming back!  You would not have surprised me by escaping, I would had made sure you got some sunlight prior to you thinking of an escape, that was one of my specialty's when I worked in the ICU, TRANSPORT monitor!!!Great job, you have the right attitude and will surpass everyones expectations! Thanks for posting, I will keep you in my prayers!

WELCOME TO BT!

Glad to hear from you. I just cut and pasted your message on Slowtwitch which is where I first read about you. I haven't meet you, but I am one of your NCTS and SCTS supporters. Good Luck and look forward to seeing you at some races next season.

dlb3830 - 2007-09-05 9:26 AM Hey, this is Deanna. Thanks for all of your prayers and support. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I'm alive right now. I continue to be amazed when I get cards and flowers from people that I don't even know. Today I get to go to rehab (my mom says not the Hollywood kind). I'm pretty excited for that. I have to get measured for a leg and learn how to walk. I also lost a considerable amount of weight (had to be all muscle) in the last few weeks, so I'm working on putting that back on. I think that as I gain weight I'll continue to get stronger. This will help with my mobility. Yesterday I hopped around with a walker; twice as far as my therapists thought I was going. My goal is to continue to surprise the people working with me. I think I already surprise my nurses too much - except nurses don't like surprises. Anyway, I'm doing better everyday. I tell people that they need to warn rehab that I'm coming. I guess when I was in a coma I saved up some sass. I had my physical therapist call me a smart arse , so I think I'm doing good so far. Also, my left arm is getting better from when they put in my AICD, so I'm self-propelled and very dangerous in a wheelchair. Again, thanks for your support. Deanna

It is GREAT to hear from you Deanna.  You have the right attitute and spirit.  You will surprise all of your therapists!  Keep it up!

Dee, So wonderful to hear from you!

Remember that the folks working with you are not used to working with an athlete of your caliber.  You will have some educating to do, but I'm sure that with patience (your long suit I can tell ), and your super attitude you'll do fine.  And now, finally, much of your recovery will be in your capable hands.   Good luck - still sending you prayers of strength and well being.

YAY!   I'm SO glad to read your post!  YES, you are going to break the top off all the charts in rehab.  Hopefully you will find at least some PT's and docs who understand that you are an athlete & will allow you to work to your limits.

Your "escape" story reminds me of another person here on BT, bunnyrunner.  She's battling breast cancer right now.  Was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago and got in trouble for exactly the same sort of escapade - "caught" by a nurse on lunch break in the cafeteria!  Hee hee!  Keep breaking boundaries.   We're still praying for you girl.

YAYYYYYYYY!

Glad to see you are doing well!

I thought about you as I jumped in at Pullen yesterday. I don't take lifeguards for granted anymore.

You're a strong person going to a great rehab center (not that it matters to you, but there is at least one really hot blond there), you'll walk out of the hospital in no time; without security dragging you back.
