Thanks everyone. You all are the best!

Doug- I am really sorry about the job situation. There are always worse tragedies happening to someone, somewhere, but it doesn't make our own life challenges any less difficult. I hope you find a new position you love and in the end it all works out for the best!

Now, how about those racers... report back soon!

Roni -- Thoughts and prayers to your family, in hopes that you all get some good news soon.

I'm back on the training plan already... a nice easy 15 mile run this morning.  Signed up for another full marathon in mid November, so there's not much time for slackin'!!

Best of luck to all the weekends racers!!

Just back from my Sunday ride, the magpie down the road had a good go at me as I got home, he dive bombed me for at least 100 m (or yards...). I'm thinking of going back with a baseball bat but maybe the neighbors would object!

I've been doing a high cadence ride once a week, it's in the Fink book. The idea is you spin at over 100 rpm for 1 hour non-stop. I went out yesterday evening and spinned round some flat roads in town. It sounds easy but it's actually quite difficult and my legs were heavy this morning. Seems to be increasing my cadence on other rides though.

Hey everyone,  I just wanted to check in before my Sprint tomorrow morning.  It's supposed to be 47 degrees at race time.  Not exactly sure what to wear at those temps, especially on the bike.  Any suggestions?

I like the idea of the high cadence ride once a week, I could do that on my trainer too.

Toe covers, socks if you don't normally wear them. Gloves. Long sleeve shirt or arm warmers. And don't take a leak until you get in the water. Have fun

I don't have toe covers, so I taped over the vents on my shoes.  I packed socks, but hadn't decided when I was going to put them on--might slip them on for the bike this time.  The long sleeve shirt is packed.  Gloves are an issue.  Hmmmmm  I don't have full-finger biking gloves, and my regular cheep gloves aren't going to stop any wind.  Mittens would feel good, but they might interfere with shifting, LOL.  Looking forward to warming the wetsuit.

Now they're calling for 45 at race start.  Have I whined enough for y'all yet? Wink

Did I mention it's a trail run today?  LOVE LOVE LOVE

Happy birthday to our Equinox baby, George!  Hope it was a good one.

How'd it go, Jayne? Perfect running weather today, but definitely chilly for a swim!

swbkrun - 2012-09-22 2:44 PM roni so sorry to hear this. How was it discovered? Constant headaches? Annual checkup? Prayer to all.

I'm glad you asked, Steve. Jason had been having these "episodes" where he wanted to say something, but couldn't find the words or would say the wrong thing. They were very brief and occasional and started about two years ago. He went to the Dr. at one point and they told him they might be mild seizures, but the only way they would know for sure would be to do a bunch of additional testing. Jason didn't have insurance at the time, and the Dr didn't seem too concerned, so he let it go at that. Recently, he was having up to 6 (what we know now were seizures) a day. He now has health insurance through MSU, so he went to the Dr and did the testing. All it took was an MRI to see what the problem was. Really sad that this wasn't found a year and a half ago when it was likely much smaller.

I am as guilty as anyone about not always getting to the Dr when I should, but the unfortunate message here is that if you think something isn't quite right, take it seriously, and get it checked out, please.

I'm so sorry, Roni.  Prayers sent.....hoping it's benign and easily removable.

Good luck to all you racers this weekend!

Would really appreciate any prayers, meditations, positive thoughts, whatever your preference, for my daughter's boyfriend, Jason. We just found out he has a mass in his brain. All they know, so far, is that it's large, in the left temporal lobe, and there is a high probability it is malignant. They are having a consult with a neurosurgeon on Tuesday. The two of them just moved to Bozeman, MT to complete their college degrees. This really sucks. I think everyone is mostly still in shock at this point.

Roni - super sorry to hear the news.  Jason and the rest of you will be in my thoughts.  I hope that the scan is positive and there is a good course of treatment.

So ran the 5k with my just turned 7 year old yesterday.

We finished a shade over 40 min. Was very proud of her, and it was lots of fun. About 3k in she said to me, "Dad, I have used up all my energy!" I gave her a few sport beans and water at the aid station and then we rocked.

Coming down the chute and people were cheering for her,I tried to video it from the phone while she ran away from me. She was soooo focused on running to the line.
I asked her after if she liked it. She said it was really tiring, but "I liked it when everyone was cheering for 262" (her number)

It was funny as it was the Ronald McDonald House run. So Ronny was running it as well in his size 25 shoes and he seemed to be around us for most of the run. Every time he would catch up to us, she would start to run faster. Guess she didnt want him to finish ahead of her!
