We are trying to arrange so that we go from the airport to the start line, run up and down the strip and straight to Margaritaville for a 100oz recovery margarita and a cheeseburger befroe we check into the hotel, then 4 days to recover poolside. The only way I will be able to do it without getting ion trouble before the race. I had 4 friends from here that missed the start due to 26oz flu last year.

I like that plan.... but the burger has to be from In-n-Out!  And yes, my wife and I enjoyed 100oz Margaritas and 64oz beers on our last visit!  Needless to say I don't remember much of it!

It is raining and Ken is out of town so that means Keri gets to learn how to put the bike on the trainer tonight.... should be pretty entertaining for the kids though I should probably wait until the girls are in bed so they don't learn any new words.

Keri, I'd let the kids put the bike on the trainer.

So, this past weekend I was supposed to race Mooseman Oly.  Despite not being trained for this in any way, shape or form, I seriously considered going up at the very last minute.  Ultimately it was too expensive to justify.  And turned out to be yet another example why I believe everything happens for a reason!  The weather on race day (Saturday) was awful!  Thunderstorms pushed the start back by 2 hours, the swim ended up getting cancelled and the bike course shortened to 17 miles.

I think there should be some sort of "grandfather" clause.

Nice. So now you can be certified to teach "c" speed.

Better get in while you can, current athletes will remain at their negotiated prices

Actually I don't think there will be change in my pricing, I do not believe that this 'certification' makes you a better coach.  People put more weight on being certified than I think is deserved, it's just as silly as thinking because someone is fast they're a good coach.  This class is part of a side project I've been working on for a while and am nearing completion, purely for marketing purposes.  Although who knows maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised by what the course has to offer but I highly doubt it'll change my outlook on how to train...

So my bike leg for my HIM coming up is considered "hilly".  For those of you who know Oregon, hilly really means HILLY.  The course goes part way up a mountain.  But...it comes part way down the mountain.  Since I have made most all my long rides hill cliimbs I was thinking of not really holding back much on the up part of it knowing that I have 14 miles of downhill to flat to finish off the course and recover the legs a bit.  Is my thinking a sure way of blowing up or should my hill training make this a plausable plan?

Not holding back and pushing too hard are two totally different perspectives... I would hold a conservative, yet strong approach going up and then use the back half of the course to hammer into T-2.  It could be used to recover from the first part of the ride, but with gravity as your friend... I would push the back half.

I prefer to ride strong but conservative up hill and hammer the down hill. If I get to the top of the hill and need to rest, I went too hard.  I normally start the strong downhill right as I crest the top.

I saw Eric do this on a ride in Chappell Hill, and it seems like a very good strategy. Prior to seeing it myself, I would hammer the uphill and coast on the downhill. I'm now convinced Eric's way is a better way to race.

This is where a power meter would be oh so helpful.    OK, so I'll practice that this weekend.  If I feel strong at the end of my planned ride then I think that will hold over well on the course.  At least I hope so.

Well, my first HIM is done, and while I'm not very satisfied with my time, at least I met my goal: to finish.  Thanks for the advice and inspires along the way.

Branson is the next big one, and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions about training plans.  My BT membership only offers a 20week HIM plan, and that race is 15 weeks out.  Should I just use the same 20 week plan I used (but didn't exactly stick to) before?  Try to formulate my own?  Wing it?

Thanks in advance for any advice!
