January....no, T, I do not have a running injury!...I have a treadmill aversion. Time to suck it up, go to the Y, stick the kids in the kid fit room and get on the treadmill.

Expert 1207 Liberty Lake, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm still in the first half of a 100-day frequency push. I've been more concerned about the number of workouts I get in, not worried about doing anything real long yet. For January: Bike = 30 times (26h31m)

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Come March, I think a lot of the numbers are going to look pretty similar. I imagine most of us will be in the 400-600 miles biked, 100 to 140 miles run and 30,000 to 50,000 yard swum for March or April anyway. Several of us had dropped biking and swimming to low maintanance for marathons and had taper and recovery in January. So Yup Febuary on is time to build. |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Wow - everyone's numbers are pretty impressive! This will be my first Ironman build and it's interesting to see where you all are at. I really haven't been all that concerned with the swim as we do a lot of open water swimming once daylight savings time hits. I've never been much of a pool swimmer and just figure that I'm going to be in the 1:10 - 1:20 range, regardless of what I do now. With Oceanside 70.3 and some other early races on the schedule, the swim will come around. Maybe by next winter, after sitting at home watching Kona and Clearwater again, I'll finally realize that the swim matters. I spent this off-season focusing on the bike, since it's the one area where I thought I could make the biggest overall improvement. Hopefully, the work on the trainer and early morning spin classes will pay off come race day. Nice job at Carlsbad, jodavis! Despite what some people say about the course, I thought it was a great event. |

Veteran 163 California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I have tented and had a room at the Cedar Motel & RV, and my parents have stayed in an RV there. The rooms are adequate. Wood paneling, green shag carpet, small, with a tiny kitchenette. Acceptible as long as you are looking for a place to sleep and not luxury. The tent sites (only a few) were fine. Shaded, nothing fancy. There is a bathroom (not porta potty) solely for the tenters. Again, it ain't fancy, but it works. Bring flip flops - I wouldn't walk barefoot in there. The RV slots weren't bad. Level dirt area, pull thru, hook ups, shaded. Not overly big spaces (neighbors are close, and tree branches can be low), and only a half dozen or so slots if I recall. As mentioned, the location is ideal for families. You literally bike past the front door, and run past the side and back. The staff and permanent residents were all super friendly. Since the road to the hotel is closed on race day (have the family park about a block away if they want to drive anywhere), the staff and locals set up on the course and drink beer all day. Nice thing is since they all know you, you have a very boisterous cheering section every time you pass. Hotel rooms run $125 this year with no minimum night stay. Not terrible, but I found a place much closer to the finish for $75 per nite. Gatorbait, a ST'er, and I will be there. Offer still stands that if you are looking for a Mom and Pop hotel in CdA, send me a PM. I'll send you all the research I did. (I'm not affiliated with any hotel or anything else there. Just raced before and made notes). |

I have the 5 kids 1 cat 1 dog and my wife.... so hotels for 5 nights would be pricey... tenting will do just fine. I will sure that up this week. Man tihs event is going to be here way too quickly. I wish we had warmer weather for biking. |

I booked for four, the Thursday night through to Sunday night, we'll be leaving town on the Monday am. Is getting there for registration on Friday and whatever else I need to do (this is my first IM race) going to be enough time?? Should I have planned to be there maybe for Thursday am?? I don't want to drag the family there to spend three days before the race sitting aorund unless I have to... |

The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm booked for 5 nights- but that's because I'll be traveling from the east coast. To get a flight to Spokane is like an act of congress and requires ALL DAY travel. So my first day will be dedicated to flying and a lot of airport time- that's why I decided to arrive Thursday. |

I don't want to drag the family there to spend three days before the race sitting aorund unless I have to... I have always arrived on Friday and have no problems. Just make sure you're there on time for registration, since there is no Saturday registration. The check in is a pretty fast process (unless you get there right when they open, in which case lines). Ideal world I would love to be there a week ahead of time, but Friday can work. Some things to do in the days before: * Ride or drive the bike course. The first part of the bike course is almost identical to the run course. On Friday I try to do an easy pace bike of one lap of the run, then drive the remainder of the bike ride. Good to see the curves, hills, views, etc. Also good to take family with on the drive so they can see what you'll be going through too. * Gatorade sponsors a free bag check in the morning, and the swim bouys will be out. Head down and jump in the lake, even for a short swim. Nice to get used to the water temp. Also to realize the lake is clear, and you can see the bottom for about 2/3 of the course (but too deep to stand ever, other than by the beach of course). |

Veteran 117 Newark, Delaware | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm arriving on Thursday as well. I was thinking about traveling on Friday, because my entourage isn't coming until Saturday, but then I started to get nervous about not making registration on Friday. At Lake Placid last year, one of my friends "forgot" you couldn't register on Saturday, so nearly missed getting to the start line. I want a cushion in case of freak storms or delays. We're staying until Wednesday, because it's our first time out in that area, so wanted to do some sightseeing and relaxing. |

Veteran 185 Spokane | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Started my official training lastweek - felt awesome. 50 mile ride in the Colorado mountains on Saturday was pretty much sweet! KTpitbull - this is #8 for you? Wow!! That is awesome. Where has your favorite IM been? I am actually from Spokane, WA - so am familiar with the area, but am not sure what sort of hotel is still available. It depends on how close you want to stay. Lastyear, my fiance's family got a hotel about 15 minutes from the race...the week before with no problem. Its usually just the places within about 2-4 miles of the starting line that are full right now (or should be). However, Spokane, (30 minutes away) has their 3-on-3 basketball tournament going on the same weekend this year...it is the biggest one in the country (world I think). So, hotels may be gone all the way around. I have about 20 family members with 20 places that live in the area if anyone becomes desperate. I don't think they would appreciate me offering out their spare bedrooms to an entire family - but if someone is traveling solo I'm sure I could talk to them about that. Just something to keep in mind. |
