Just called tribike transport and I can do 1 way for $150 and I don't have to take anything apart.  Bargin in my book.

So what is everyone doing this weekend as far as workouts go?  Should be getting close to peak training here.
I am riding 140 miles or 7 hours, which ever comes first, and a 3 mile race pace brick.  Sunday is 21 miles on the run.  Let's see what others are doing.

Mark,

Those are some big rides you are doing.  Is the wind as hard on you as it is on me down here is the Springs?  I have been destroyed by the wind on my last 2 big rides.  Only two more big rides of ~ 100 miles for me.

Hey Chris,

Yes the winds have been bad the last 2 weekends.  Yesterday was not bad at all.  Keep up the big rides.  Ok got in 140 miles in 7 hours, no run off the bike I was tired and just done.  Today I ran 21 miles in 2:48 So it was a good weekend.  Hope everyone had a good weekend of training.

Yup, the carp are there to nibble on you now.  I hear they are releasing the sharks on Nov 10th to give them time to get used to the water before we get there

Training is going well but do to COLD and WIND I spent 5 1/2 on the trainer yesterday....OUCH   Did a 6 mile run afterward outside.  Today was a 1 1/2 bike indoors and a 2 1/2 hour run.  Run was good but was really feeling it around 10 - 12 miles before I got my second wind.

2 more big weekends before taper.  I am hoping for some warmer weather or my rides over the next 2 weeks.

BTW, I am using TriBikeTransport as well.  This will be my first time using them so I am hoping for the best.  Seen a lot of good reviews so I am pretty comfortable.  I just hate giving up my bike so far in advance.  Although I will only miss a couple of shorter rides and one 2 hour ride.

Good luck to everyone!!

For the folks who are traveling by plane, are you shipping your bike, bringing it with you, or using some bike transportation company?  I want to use Tri Bike Transport,  but I have to drop my bike off on the 10th.  I used them before and they are great.  I don't have any big rides during that time and I can always borrow a bike for some short rides.  I think the pros of doing it out weigh the cons.  I was just curious to see what other people are doing.

I'm going Jet Blue and bringing mine with me on the plane for $50 each way.  Whether the expense of buying a shipping case is worth it or not really depends on how often you'll end up using it.  If you only think you'll need to ship your bike once or twice, using Tri Bike Transport probably makes more sense.

My wife is thinking about volunteering while I race and it got me looking at the different volunteering position and came across to this one:

"MORNING CLOTHES: Help athletes in the morning to put their dry morning clothes into the correct box. Once the athletes are in the water, you will help sort all the bags and put them in order to be ready for pick up in the evening. Some volunteers will be needed to assist in the evening when the athletes come back to pick up their bags"

Is this available to ALL athletes or is this just for Pro's?  I never heard of this option? I figure I would just be responsible for my own morning clothes

I believe for all athletes.  They had the same thing at Syracuse 70.3.

killie42 - 2010-10-01 6:40 AM I'm planning on signing up for the race next year, if possible.  What training plans are all of you using?  Do you have coaches?  It'll be my first IM, so, I'd appreciate any insight.
Thanks.

I had a coach for my first IM..  He set up my plan..  Reasonable at $125/month... If you are interested his name is Ken Snowden and can be found at www.endurancecoaching.com

azstaterick - 2010-10-13 2:45 PM Tempe Town Lake is closed for swimming outside of events. Sorry.

On a positive note, there is water in the lake now.

There will be an "Ironman Perform" practice swim per email from one of the race coordinators.  It it scheduled for Saturday 11/20 between 9am-11am.  This will be in the athlete guide when we get a little closer.

Great, another person to pass me    LOL

Can't wait to see her blow by on the bike.  She is an amazing athlete!

BTW, Where is our 2010 Athlete Guide??  The site says it would be posted about 2 months in advance and we are now down to 30 days.

Happy training to all you racers out there.  Taper is just around the corner.

Mark

For those of you who had done this race before, what set of wheels would you recommend?  Will a rear disk be too agressive?  I'm not sure how windy it gets.  My first full IM!!!

T-30 days.  Anyone else have a big weekend coming up?  I have 4k swim, 112 bike/3m bike run brick tomorrow.  My biggest training day yet.  Did I mention it's about 50 degrees up here.  Should be around 40 when I get on my bike.  I am looking forward to the AZ heat.  Have a good weekend.

That is awesome.  This is turning out to be a great race to participate in so you can see the pros "on the field".

I think I need to adjust my expectations for this years race.  I had some unplanned time off due to a stress fracture and my run training suffered.  So far 14miles is my longest run.  I plan to get at least 2 16 mile runs in during the next 14 days.

we are getting close to race day....

As Ironman Arizona approaches, I can't help but reminisce about where I was in my training this time last year.  In fact I can remember doing a 6 hour ride on Halloween last year.  There was still snow on the ground and I ended up riding the cherry creek bike path back and forth because that's all that was plowed.  The point is, I really enjoyed the training, and anxiously awaited the day I would become an Ironman.  I get bummed out when I think about not doing it again this year.  I've accomplished quite a bit this year with a 27 min PR at Boulder 70.3 and six days later completing the  Leadville 100 MTB race in under 12 hours.  But it's not the same as my first Ironman.  Here are the things I can remember about the Ironman that make me want to do it again:
  •   Road tripping down to Tempe with the family.  The excitement that hit me when I saw the first road sign warning of traffic closures for the upcoming Ironman.
  •   The energy that surrounded the athlete village and all the people I met in those few days leading up to the race.
  •   The butterflies 3:30 am on race day.  (I can feel my heart race just thinking about this)
  •   Putting on my wetsuit and giving my family hugs and kisses before I went off towards the dock and into the 62 degree water
  •   Hearing the starting gun go off then getting punched, kicked and swam over as I fought to maintain my line.
  •   Finishing the 2.4 mile swim, with my injured shoulder and thinking the worst part was over.
  •   Finishing the last 10 miles of the bike and looking forward to getting off of it, even if it meant running a marathon next.
  •   The non-stop encouragement from all those people out on the run course
  •   The finish chute and the "You are an Ironman" shout
  •   The beer I had after the race.  Best damn beer I ever tasted!  Don't ask me what it was because I don't remember that.
Good luck to all of you that are racing it this year.  I hope it is as memorable for you as it was for me!

I've been running the IMAZ course quite a bit lately so I've been running along the lake.  It's full and some of the boats are back in the small marina.  There is quite a bit of debris floating around (especially on the sides) but I'm sure all this will be cleaned up.  They won't let people swim in it unless there is a race going on.  I'm doing the 4000m OWS in it 11/6 and I'll be sure to give everyone an update on here.

I can already sense the IM buzz around town.  The Ironman road closure signs have been put up... and there was even an IM truck parked near Tempe Beach park this morning!  I see a ton more people training here now that the weather is cooler.  I don't think it even reached 90 this weekend (I had to wear arm warmers for Saturday's ride).

27 days...

You know they won't "clean up" any floating debris. It's going to be like the trash compactor scene from Star Wars.  "What a wonderful smell you've discovered..."
