Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() DougRob - 2011-12-26 10:03 AM A word to the wise, if you have not been working out for a while get back into it slowly. Do not jump back into your workouts at the same intensity/length of time as you were doing before you took time off. We return now to the normal banter... May be directed at me and a couple others, and if so, thanks for the concerns. I fully intend to ramp slow, and make sure I arrive at the starting line healthy, and stay that way. My 2011 was a real drag as I began and ended the year with 2 different injuries, costing me 4-5 months of running time. I'm going to make 2012 a better, healthier year. In a related note, one of my Christmas gifts was registration at my first half ironman in June, so I'm going to take it slow, and work to meet that challenge. Edited by Mike_D 2011-12-26 5:13 PM |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I thought I was going to be cute and run to the Y tonight so I wouldn't have to fight for a parking spot. Surprise! I was the only one in the pool or upstairs weight room. I could have parked a train with all the open spots. ![]() |

![]() | ![]() Well I really haven't had much motivation for the last two months with the new job and working 6 days a week. I forced myself to lace up today and go out for a run. I forced myself to make wrong turns and when I wanted to stop I turned up my music and settled into a pace. Before I knew it I ran just shy of 10km. I could feel abs and my chest the whole run from my previous core workout. But how can you pass up a run in the sunshine when it is 48 degrees and sunny in Canada. In fact I was in a tshirt and tights, I wish I had worn my shorts instead. It was good to taste my salty sweat and feel the fat burning away from the holidays. 48 degrees in Canada in December is a gift to an athlete! Gotta love global warming :-) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Birthday Sam! We had a Big family party on Friday night I hosted it and it was 40 something people. My brother and his family visited from Texas So we had impromptu parties all last week. it's a good thing I have a well stocked with food because It seemed like every time I turned around I was cooking a meal for thirty people. It was fun and crazy. I'm glad my brothers and sisters and their families are excited to come to my home for food and games. But I'm tired and ready to get back on schedule. Tiana |

Virtually no bad traffic! Even near Tyson's Corner, VA! However, 4 days here is going to seem like a very long time. The issues run deep and passive-aggressive behavior dominates. Wish us luck. Are you on your way home today? Traffic on 95 south looked to be at a standstill for over 10 miles when we were coming back from Sam's parents. Nope. We are still here in MD. Leave tomorrow AM. Today is my Mom's 80th birthday. My sister is coiming in later and we have a dinner planned. So far we have had the best traffic this trip. No delays coming, and no dleays on 2 trips to VA and 1 to downtown DC. We are praying this hold up on the trip home. |

Loved Chrissie's dismount in T2 and they did a great job on the age grouper folks they covered. |

But this is 2 rides in a row below 35, and I'm hurting. I'm going to head to the Paarl Izumi outlet tomorrow and see what I can find. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ha! I got new gloves for Christmas.....but they rated to 40 - not 35!! At the 10 mile point I had gone from pain to almost numb - wasn't working to well with brakes and shifting! The hand dryer brought them back to life! To be fair, Jeff HATES it when I do that...... |

Hoping a few thousand meters in the pool will help loosen things up again so I can get back out on the road tomorrow. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy birthday Sam! I've got to go in to work this morning but then I'll be taking the kids surfing. I'm near the end of my running streak, I,ve run every day since late November, mostly barefoot or in minimalist shoes and all my run niggles have disappeared! Next month will be a swim/bike focus but I think I'll try to do a short run everyday as well, just won't worry about distance. |
