No arthritis, but he's not really sure what's wrong either. It's looking like SI pain or labral tear pain. But, we can't be sure unless we do an MRI with contrast, which the insurance company won't cover until I try other things first. Going to PT next week. It's definitely manageable pain, just annoying, so I am certainly not considering surgery or anything drastic. Mostly, I want to make sure I'm not going to hurt myself more by continuing to run. This reminded me of something I was going to ask THE POD. I haven't dealt with injuries much at all, shin splints when I first started running and a pulled calf muscle probably 4 or 5 years ago. Well now when I ride I'm feeling a slight, twinge, I guess you'd call it, on the outside just above my left ankle when I ride my bike. It's not constant and mostly when I'm getting warmed up. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I wear a, um, 5 pound weight on my left ankle all day every day. Thoughts? HTFU and quit whining? I just don't want to end up on the injured list I'm not following. What's this weight? Tool of my trade...? i have nothing of real value to add other than maybe move the weight to your hip or small of your back? |

I just got the news that a good friend of mine passed away from complications of malaria He was one of the people who really helped and stood by me when I was having such a hard time when I first moved back to Indonesia. He worked for the UN and everything he did and everything he was, was about helping other people. He really did give his whole life for others and worked in places nobody would go. He contracted malaria in Liberia, was med-evac'ed to New York and died there. I am in utter shock. Allen was so young--relatively--he and I are about the same age. So full of life and passion. A real piglet. Great hugs. I just had dinner with him a few months ago. ETA ... I don't know if I told him I loved him last time. I don't remember. I know he knew I did, so that's what counts, I just ... I'm really confused. And I know it's never too late--at least in my belief system--I just want to remember to hug my loved ones extra tight EVERY day and make sure they know they are loved. sorry for your loss. it's never easy to lose a loved one, but when it is unexpected like this it is even harder. |

Grrrr-ruff. You do have arthritis in your wrists and hands though, correct? I sure hope PT helps. You up for trying acupuncture? I went and got a massage earlier. One of the top 20 ever (and I've probably had a few hundred so it was truly amazing). Fine young piglet. That didn't hurt either. Anyway I feel like it really helped me feel better. My own arthritis has a way of being really annoying whenever I'm sick or hurting in other ways. I have arthritis in my hands/wrist caused by the bones being an odd shape and smushing into each other. Don't have it much any more since I had surgery to shave done that bone. I'm up for trying anything. He recommended going to yoga again. He said he didn't really think it was a tear given that I was sitting most of the appointment with my legs crossed as people with labral tears usually can't do that. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED I thought I was all clever and knew what our track workout was going to be last night. We had previously done 4 x 1600, 5 x 1200 so I'm thinkin' 6 x 800. Dammmn I forgot the 1000 distance (it's a strange one) and instead, he had us do 7! The workout was 7 x 1000 @ 6:20 pace (so 95 seconds per lap, 2.5 laps) I always try to go into a workout with a specific goal in mind. Last night it was to nail my pacing when it was my turn to lead. We had a GREAT group running at 6:20. Everyone was very supportive of one another and very committed to running on target. We decided to run conservatively for the first 5 reps and then reevaluate if we could amp it up a little for the finish. I totally met my goals of executing the proper pace and we were able to progressively drop our times for the last two repetitions. 1000 is an odd distance in general but it's REALLY odd on a dark track (they don't leave the stadium lights on for us) Coach left a little orange glowstick for us so we knew where to finish at. The other crazy part is when you finish you have to jump directly off the track towards the center because there were multiple groups running and you didn't want to get run over. It was like that show wipeout...or at least had potential to be like it. |

CLOSED rrrunner - 2013-02-07 2:33 PM Asalzwed - 2013-02-07 12:18 PM I thought I was all clever and knew what our track workout was going to be last night. Interesting day at the track. Congrats on nailing the pacing AND on being able to decrease time on the last two. Reading about your running group sessions is always awe inspiring. Yep, I feel the same way! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED Oh good, I am glad you guys enjoy hearing about the track workouts. I definitely don't mean them as some sort of a brag post. It's just new to me and I feel like the experience is worth sharing. Also, hopefully everyone understand the amount of conservative running that I did before I ever though about speed. |

One of the awesome things about you, Salty, is that with all of your ability (natural or otherwise) you are very down to earth and modest with your accomplishments, and offer them up as learning points, not bragging rights. |

I'm so sorry, just the first thing that popped into my mind. The state judicial system over there must be very liberal to allow you to train for triathlons :DTriAya - 2013-02-07 10:14 AM rrrunner - 2013-02-08 1:10 AM Artemis - 2013-02-07 10:03 AM Saw my ortho doc this morning. He did x-rays and checked things out. I knew immediately and thought maybe you should just get another for your other ankle. Double strapped! I actually thought about this back when you had your body comp done and one arm was bigger than the other. My left leg muscles are probably ever so slightly stronger/larger. How odd would it be to switch legs for awhile? I'm more curious to the mental part than the physical. |
