What a ludicrous supposition - to think thay widespread ownership of something designed for the specific purpose of killing people could possibly contribute in any way to more suicides and murders. Crazy talk! I am outraged that the WP would publish something like this! http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/feature/wp/2013/03/22/gun-deaths-s... Did you read the article you posted? The only correlation they attempted to show was between gun ownership and suicides. They said nothing of overall gun deaths. I thought the point of gun control was to make it impossible for people to kill each other... looks like it isn't working according to the article. If the point of gun control is to abolish suicide then I suppose you have to agree with Bloomberg that we should be prohibited from doing anything (soda, cigs) that might damage our health or cause us to die earlier than we would otherwise. The only thing I took from the article was that white people shoot themselves and black people don't... |

Now, BTers, settle an argument between CINCHouse and me: How many guns constitutes an "arsenal"? Congrats on the M1A! I have a Garand an a Carbine so I need an M1A as well. As for the arsenal, I was asked by a friend, how many I own. I thought for a second, started writing things down and honestly, I couldn't remember them all. He said I qualify. I disagree of course but I've seen reporter call a bolt action .22lr, a 12 gauge and a 9mm an arsenal. I have nothing against minimalists but I don't think they deserve that title. |

Now, BTers, settle an argument between CINCHouse and me: How many guns constitutes an "arsenal"? I could arm a bit over 50 people fairly well......they'd have to bring ammo if they want to be in the fight......I don't have any for at least 75% of my guns. Come to think of it, I haven't even looked at most of them in years. I had a buddy over last summer who wanted to see an old 1911 I have. He looked at it and then pointed to another pistol case and asked what was in there. When I opened it there was a .357 revolver that I didn't remember I had. It came from my Grandpa when he left his guns to me....that day was the first day I ever held it. Edited by Left Brain 2013-03-26 11:49 PM |

Elite 2733 Venture Industries, | Subject: RE: 'The' Gun Thread FBI crime statistics for 2011 came out. 2.2% of all Homicides committed with a rifle. The "assault weapon" (whatever that is) constitutes a portion of the rifle category, so estimates are that only about 1% of homicides committed by "assault weapons" Putting that into context, 2 times as many homicides are committed using "hands or feet" and 7 times as many homicides are committed using "knives" THese statistics are pretty consistent with the stats from previous years.
But hey...according to the liberal left...these "assault weapons" are the scourge of mankind and their only use is for criminal conduct. (but the left is interested in a "rational" debate on the gun control issue) P.S. Anyone notice that the language of the debate has been changed yet again. The left is now using the phrase "gun safety" instead of "gun control" They are now "gun safety" legislation. Control language and you control thought. |

Expert 3126 Boise, ID | Subject: RE: 'The' Gun Thread I think an arsenal is when you have more guns than you or your family can carry effectively at once. My wife and I have 6 rifles and 4 handguns between the two of us, so I suppose that could be considered an arsenal. But I subscribe to the N+1 formula. Got a 1911, a Desert Eagle and a nice shotgun on the list right now. |

It seems less densely populated areas have less crime. We limit how many people can be in a jacuzzi, pool, bar, restaurant. My answer for that is increased use of surveillance video cams and life imprisonment for violent offenders. btw, Tony, I get your point and it's a good one.
Seriously! I'm not a fan of the cams but definitely on the life imprisonment for violent criminals! |

A memo from CeasefirePA called out to always use the word "violence" after the word "gun." As you point out, it's all about controlling the language. After that, I realized just how much at media blitz did just that. It's no longer about violent criminals and what we can do about it. The agenda is crystal clear. |

Just as you discovered a firearm that you forgot you had, I recently found 585 rds of ammo that I no longer had a firearm which would shoot it. It sold quickly since it is not very plentiful at the moment. Hunters can buy by the 20rd box but shooters buy by the case and it scares non-gun owners since they don't understand how quickly you can go through rounds. A typical Appleseed shoot can require 500rds in one afternoon. If you are and IDPA shooter, you better have a few thousand on hand and be ready to reload your own. |

When my boys and I went to a GSSF (Glock competition) we would go through about 500 rounds in one afternoon. Now add to that running through the stages in practice and having 2-3 thousand rounds on hand means about three weeks, maybe a month, or so of ammo. A lot of people never hear about that or don't believe it when they're told it. |
