lisac957 - 2008-06-11 2:24 PM The run map has been updated. Suddenly I'm concerned about keeping track of how many 1/2 loops I've done because you pass transition halfway through each loop. Good for keeping my spirits up, bad for counting laps! http://www.ironmankansas.com/run.php

Jeeesh!  I just got dizzy looking all those turns!

Wear a Garmin or chant the montra: "Transition on the left one loop". Sort of like counting laps in the pool!

We can't have it all, the race planners are doing what they can to please a lot of people!

It'll be easy to remember. Just think about passing the transition area going back out three times. It's only three loops, forget the half-loops.

Edit: This course is actually growing on me as the race nears because you can shorten it in your mind. Instead of doing a 56-mile bike it's basically four legs of 14 miles each (approximately) and instead of a 13-mile run it's basically three legs of 4.3666666 miles each.

Now, if they'd put a big dock at the halfway point in the water it could be two swim legs of 0.6 miles each.

That's exactly how I was thinking about it this morning.  Those loops look alot longer than 4.3666 miles but it must just be the map.  I'd have to 2nd that idea about having the dock out there.  It's almost time for an hour countdown to race day!!

Think of the swim as 3 700yrd legs instead of 2100yrds.

It looks they will have 3 or 4 buoys on each leg, so think of it as 10 or 11 segments of 150-200 meters.

Speaking of road trips, we leave from Milwaukee in 5 hours   Hotel tonight then camping at the lake.

5 to 7 hours? as long as the trip is fun!!!

Plan you trip well, bring a boat and life vests. Des Moines, IA is under a foot of water and Cedar Rapids is flooded also! Then again they might be less flooded than Wisconsin?

I think it may take me longer to complete the course than it does to drive from Chicago to Kansas City.

Yowza.

The course will be more fun though, you will get boxed in by people vs. semi-trucks!

So I am all packed and will be leaving straight from work this evening.

I was exactly 30 minutes away from home (I work 40 miles away from my house) when I I looked in my rearview to confirm what just hit me, I realized my seatbag was still on my wifes bike from her ride two days ago. I know I have an extra tube packed but it looks like I will be buying a CO2 and a shooter at the expo.

I should start a whole new thread on stuff I have forgotten. So much for the check lists I went over last night.

Wah wah wah wahhhhhhh

OK I'm going to totally jynx myself here -- I've never flatted so I've never changed a tire. Not totally true. One time my tire was flat when I went to pick it up at the LBS but I just had them fix it. So tonight I'm going to practice changing the tire and using a CO2 cartridge since I've never used one.

LOL on the bike shop fix. Thats always been my wife's plan as well. We kid because if she goes out by herself, I always remind her to grab the seatbag, not for her, but for whoever stops to help her.

I, for a minute, contemplated going without, I have new PR3s with about 50-60 miles on them. But the thought of 5 months of training and a four day road trip and $225+ fizzling away with a flat is just too horrifying for me.

Once you get the hang of it, it only takes 5-10 minutes to change out a tube and can save your day. Well worth learning how to do it.

I have only had two this year, both on planned long rides where I would have been screwed if not for the seatbag. On one I made Moneyman wait around for me while I fumbled my way through the change. The other was in a downpour and 50 degrees, would have sucked to have had to walked or waited in the weather.
